Word of the Year 2017: Treasure

World of the Year 2017 - Treasure

The fact that is now almost a week into February tells you how well my year is going so far! January is always a messy month for me; something I’ve only just realised this year. It’s always a transitional and planning time, moving on from the old year and getting over the holidays. There’s usually travel involved as well, which comes from being in a couple residing in Scotland in which one person is from Scotland and the other is from England. This usually leads to me picking up germs from somewhere. What seems to be a chest infection took it’s time (painfully) building up before exploding over the weekend and I’m thankful that it at least seems to be moving on its own. I’m not against anti-biotics, but anyone with a bowel condition (like IBS) will tell you that sometimes they cause more aggro than they’re worth. In short, being so late with this post is annoying but not surprising. Hopefully now I’ve recognised what happens in January I can lessen the stress on myself and just go with the flow.

Going with the flow is kind of what my word of the year is all about. In December we had some horrible health news; my fiancé Chris has a very rare heart condition. One that comes with some very scary stuff. We’re still in the middle of hospital appointments right now, so we don’t know much and that alone can be even more scary. It was a wake up call, that’s for sure. We’ve been together 10 years this October, and 10 years ago before I met Chris some big changes happened in my life. I finished my first degree, I broke up from my (then) longest relationship (4 years) and moved back home to a very uncertain future. In the last decade I’ve come to realise the future always looks like that, but that was a big turning point in my life. I’ve spent that time with an amazing guy who looked after me as I healed and grew, and spent the entire time desperate to prove myself. To be worthy, to be able to say I’d accomplished great things, and most of all; striving to make myself better. Better? In what ways? Honestly, I don’t think I ever really knew. I had some healthy goals that I worked towards and reached, but otherwise I was trying to impress people who were long gone from my life or were never important anyway. As I wrote in my 30 thoughts on 30, growing older has helped put things in perspective but it was only December’s events that made me truly realise just how much I’ve been focusing on changing my life and not on what I have.

And that is how the word ‘Treasure’ came about. You can read more about what a word of the year is and it’s origins in this post from Abbey of the Arts. Last year was Evolve and I feel that even with the ups and downs 2016 did see me evolve and try new things. I’m not sure if I had a 2015 one, but 2014 was Change (you could argue that evolve is the same word, but for me they had very different meanings). But as you can see it was all about changing, transforming, making me into something else. I’m now past that stage, at least for the moment. I’m no longer cookie dough, I’m baked and I have found my various callings. I’ve found my niche with this blog, I’ve come to terms with my many disabilities and health issues and living with them, and I’ve found my calling as a Librarian. Am I complete? Probably not, and I honestly don’t think we as human beings ever are. What is important is to realise what we do have, what we have achieved and treasure all of it before it is gone. I’m done worrying about what people might think, of what they’re saying about me or whether they approve. I have a beautiful loving fiancé, two gorgeous annoying loveable furballs, supportive close family and crazy ass geeky friends who will get into all sorts of mischief with me, fangirl with me and keep me happy and sane.

I’m weird, I’m different, I’m completely geeky, I’m both introverted and extroverted.

I’m me.

Welcome to my 2017.

My Goals for December

Monthly Goals December 2016

Novembers goals really helped me keep myself on a better schedule so I’m hoping this will do the same for December too!

Commenting

I managed to squeeze some comments in this month and I need to keep it up now that my blog scheduling is under control again.

Dissertation Prep

January marks the official  start of my dissertation after having the last four months off to rest and heal. I want to get my feet wet again and get some background research done before January comes around.

World of Warcraft

  • Finish my Druid class campaign.
  • Start levelling my Mage.
  • Finish Suramar quests on my Demon Hunter.
  • Get my Shadow and Holy artifacts on my priest (been delaying it as I need to record them).
  • Work on the two toy achievements: Hot Swapper and The Shortest Distance

Desk: Operation Make Up Storage

The next step of my desk set up is to move my make up from the bathroom and into my new desk. I’m still trying to decide whether it’s better to do that before Christmas, or afterwards. I’ve also got to work out how/where everything is going to go!

Product Reviews

Christmas means new stuff to review, so I want to play catch up and try to squeeze two in this month.

Make Up & Nail Art Tests

We’re going out for Christmas dinner so it’s the perfect excuse to dress up and go all out with make up and nail art. I want to test some new products I got for my birthday and try out some new nail art ideas. I’ll be posting them up on instagram and hopefully get some tutorials and blog posts out of it too!

January Reading Bingo

I first saw this over at Natalie’s Blog and as I told her, I need to do this! I have so much I want to read, especially indie/self published free books I’ve picked up and I have no idea where to start. So I want to create a bingo card, a chart of themes and keywords for picking from my collection books for January.

Any suggestions for what I could have on it? Let me know in the comments?

How is your December shaping up? Do you take it easier because of the holidays or is your schedule even more hectic?

November Goals Recap

Monthly Goals November 2016

The end of the month is nigh and it’s time to look back over my monthly goals and see how I did!

Blogging

I feel quite content with how my blogging went this month, I upped my game but there’s still room for improvement. I need to get scheduling sorted for one, and I am so behind on commenting. So those will be priorities next month.

Youtube

I failed miserably. The new diet had me all over the place and proved to have some unseen difficulties (more below) so I’ve had a lot less time and energy than I expected.

World of Warcraft

Let’s see…

  • Finish my Demon Hunter campaign.
  • Finish my main’s profession levelling – Fishing is now maxed. It’s proving a lot harder to max everything else, so I think this is going to be a goal for several months
  • Complete a full set of Illusion Books (enchanting) for me and Chris.
  • Finish off Broken Isles achievements for killing rares. (Apparently I’d actually already done this :P)
  • Start levelling my druid with Chris – She should be 110 in the next few days!
  • Start levelling my mage solo – Haven’t even started her 🙁
  • Do the dungeon profession quests on my Demon Hunter and Monk – Demon hunter done (and new ones found), but my monk I slacked on big time. I think I’m just going to leave her for now and concentrate on other characters as she is my bank character.

New Desk Set Up

It’s done and mostly set up 😀 I still need to move my make up from the bathroom into the new desk because I can’t do my make up in the bathroom. This is because I’m really short sighted (like -20 -20 seriously) and our mirror is above the sink… I need a mirror right in front of my face. So sitting down at my new desk with everything nearby works so much better for me.

I do have some pictures though!

And someone has a home at last!

New Diet

So the new diet has been tricky, and not due to the food. The food prep, especially for breakfast has been difficult for me when my body has decided it doesn’t want to behave. I’ve gotten into a routine, been trying new recipes and finding ones I really enjoy. I’ve also lost 9-10lbs already which seems unreal. I’ve been eating less, been much less hungry between meals and have noticed other good side effects too. My skin is much clearer, other health stuff seems better too.

However, I’ve been really nauseous a lot and I don’t think it’s due to the diet, like I said, I’m not feeling hungry so no feeling light headed etc. I think it’s a part of whatever weird random gland hurting illness that I’ve now had for over a year. My glands have also been getting worse, and sore more often :-/

Work on a Project

Nada, zilch. I was pretty sure that would be the case.

There may also be…

I totally failed on reviews and tutorials, but did get some Bioshock Infinite in!

So that was my month; how did yours go? Did you meet your goals? You may have noticed that I’m not beating myself up for missing stuff and that is important. Remember that when looking back at your own goals and lists 🙂

December goals coming soon!

My Goals for November

Monthly Goals November 2016

After seeing several ladies over at Geek Girls + Blogger posting their November goals I decided it would be a good thing for me to implement. Hopefully it will help me keep up with things, as well as also helping me to realise that I am getting things done. That I am being productive even when I feel like I’m not. So here are my monthly goals for November!

Blogging

I’m planning on upping my blogging game this month in several different ways. Firstly, just generally keeping up to date and on top of things by scheduling posts in advance. Then by adding some new content in such as Christmas gift guides.

Youtube

Due to illness and RL priorities, I fell a bit behind with my videos. I have a lot of stuff recorded just need to edit and put it all together. I really want to get this done this month and get started on some new content! (Plus the Priest campaign has an epic finale I am dying to show you guys!)

World of Warcraft

I am still loving Legion but there is SOOO MUCH to do! It is so easy to get completely lost at the moment and just sit staring at my screen wondering what the hell to do next. So, I made a list especially for WoW:

  • Finish my Demon Hunter campaign.
  • Finish my main’s profession levelling (literally only archaeology is maxed…)
  • Complete a full set of Illusion Books (enchanting) for me and Chris.
  • Finish off Broken Isles achievements for killing rares.
  • Start levelling my druid with Chris.
  • Start levelling my mage solo.
  • Do the dungeon profession quests on my Demon Hunter and Monk.

New Desk Set Up

It was my birthday last month and my parents generously helped me get a brand new, much bigger desk. The plan is to get it set up this month and try to work out where everything is going.

New Diet

I’m not one for going on about diets, but it is very important for me personally to get the hang on this one. I am doing so much cooking that I feel like I’m cooking all day every day, and it requires me to get things prepared in advance. It’s a bit learning curve, not to mention sticking to the diet and going through the hard transitional phase which is going to suck.

Work on a Project

I have a bunch of online projects/websites I want to work on, and I may or may not have time to do this – it really depends on how my health goes this month. This isn’t a top priority which is why it is at the bottom of the list.

There may also be…

Some make up reviews and tutorials, and some Bioshock Infinite playing happening… Maybe. If not this month, next month for sure.

Do you have any monthly goals? Or anything you hope to achieve this month? Let me know! 🙂

Weekend Break sponsored by Spoonies R Us

Spoonies R Us

The week started out to a tremendous start; an all day migraine. Bleurgh. I alternated between the bed and the couch, just about managing to binge watch TV (see what I’m watching here!). I finally managed to get to the doctors and talked through some things, including altering my migraine medication. Unfortunately that comes with the side effect of making me very sleepy – something that probably isn’t helped by the fact that I’m trying to sort my sleeping pattern in preparation for my exams. I have two exam dates so far and they’re both morning 🙁 At the moment my days are starting at 10:30am, and that’s a struggle. So I’ve spent the week very sleepy, and with pain from a HMS flare up.

Friday came and went, as did Saturday so I decided that this weekend I’m taking a break from 5 Fandom Friday and Sharing Saturday. When I created this blog I knew this could happen, and I’m not going to apologise. It sucks, but it’s my life, and at the moment any (very few) moments of clarity need to be spent studying for my exams. I’ll be planning better this week and should have posts scheduled in advance. I am probably going to miss a few things, like Look Book and Reviews, for this month and next due to all this and exams.
