This years nails [so far]

Nails so far 2016

As March draws to a close I’ve been struggling to come up with something for this months Look Book so I apologise for this months one being somewhat duller than planned. March has been a difficult month and the last few weeks have been filled with assignment deadlines so I’m doing something very simple; showcasing my nails so far. I’ve been working my way through the 48 nail polishes I got at Christmas which are showcased here.

The last one was a break away from the set of nail polishes because I got this absolutely gorgeous polish (and another one in green) for Easter 😀 I am so in love with it, I cannot stop looking at my nails. I’ll be trying the green one soon so don’t forget to follow me on instagram to see the results and any other nail colours I try next!

What one do you like best?

Geek on the High Street

Sharing Saturday: Geek on the High Street

Ok, so technically it’s Sunday (and quite late on a Sunday at that). This week has been tough, and I had to skip last weeks SS so I refused to skip a second one.

Geek on the High Street is an idea I had last year and considered creating a blog around, instead it will make a regular appearance as a Sharing Saturday. I had hoped to go out and actually browse shops, but sadly health hasn’t allowed for that so I’ve had to look online. The aim of Geek on the High Street is to find and highlight geeky products that can be found in normal high street stores. I’ll be mainly focusing on women’s fashion since mostly women read my blog, but if anyone is interested in a male version please let me know in the comments!

New Look

New look had a few things, but primarily there were lots and lots of unicorns. Either unicorns are ‘in’ at the moment or someone at New Look reaaallly likes them. Here’s a few of my faves along with some Minnie and Snoopy tops I found. All of these can be found on the New Look website.

H & M

H & M had a few band t-shirts as well as these cute batman PJs, Minion socks, Micky PJ bottoms and Micky top.

Top Shop

I’m not a massive Top Shop fan, I honestly avoid it like the plague because I’ve always found its products are the total opposite of geekyness. However, it turned out to be a virtual gold mine of geeky stuff. There’s a tonne more Micky and Minnie stuff on there (the mouses are very in right now it seems) but I absolutely love the troll top 😀

As you can see the Disney Mouses trend continues in Uniqlo, although they did have several other Disney t-shirts such as the Alice and Wonderland and Snow White tops featured here. There were also a couple of Hello Kitty ones as well, so this is definitely one to watch to see what else they come up with

And the rest…

.Then there were a few notable items from these shops. Blondie T-shirt from Miss Selfridge, Minnie socks from Next (they had a few other cute Disney and animation pairs too!) and David Bowie jumper from River Island.

I hope you enjoyed this first edition of Geek on the High Street 🙂 Let me know what you think of these products in the comments!

5 Favorite Stores To Get Geeky Wears/Wares [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Geeky wares

I love geeky t-shirts and if I could afford it I would buy pretty much everything from some of these stores 😛 I’ve featured t-shirts in this entry but most of these have a range of different products, other clothing, accessories and even homeware. I’ve also bought from some of them before so can attest to the quality and service. Hope you enjoy!

Truffle Shuffle

I would quite happily base my entire wardrobe on this store. I love 80s cartoons and disney, and this shop is FULL of both and tonnes more. I’ve had t-shirts from here before and loved them. Prices range from about £14.99-£24.99 for t-shirts which isn’t unusual in the UK.

One of the first places to do decent World of Warcraft T-shirts, Jinx first caught my eye way back in the day when it was quite new. The t-shirts are fantastic quality, so soft and fit great. I’ve had several of their womens range and also bought them for Chris from the men’s range. He also has one of their jumpers/jackets (this one) and again, great quality. They do a range of geeky ones, including some pro-women/pro-female gamers, and various other games now.

sportsdirectSports Direct

A geek shopping at a sports store? What?! Ha! Well, this is one of my trade secrets I am sharing with you. Sports direct has an awesome range of womens tops and t-shirts that aren’t sports related. Including some awesome geeky ones such as comic books and tv shows for men and women. They also have some awesome sales and you can get some awesome geeky ware for dirt cheap! The quality isn’t as fantastic sometimes, but for the price, who cares? You also find most of these are brand wear from Marvel/DC.

redbubbleRed Bubble

If you’ve not heard of Red Bubble before, it’s a place where people can get their images or art turned into products. You find a lot of awesome art work including gorgeous fan art like this Doctor Who work by MeganLara. You can get them on clothing, iphone covers, posters, notebooks, and much more.

emp EMP Online

I only came across this site at Christmas and love the wide range of geeky ware they have. There are 80 cartoons, movie stuff, band stuff, gothic, fantasy art, and so on. A lot of brand and official wear, such as Star Wars, but for decent prices.

5 Geeky Tattoos I Want [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Geeky tattoos

When I first started this prompt I thought I’d have to change to prompt slightly, and then I began to realise that there were no examples of tattoos out there that summed up what I would ever get. So I ended up doing the prompt properly 😀 As a Libra I love art, but I’m also very picky. On top of that I’m very ticklish and one of my conditions means my skin does odd things. So these are more of a theoretical list of geeky tattoos that I would get.

Kushiel Legacy by Jacqueline Carey

If you’ve been reading my blog you’ve seen me mention this series a bazillion times now. The marque is a beautiful back tattoo that is completed in stages and while it represents freedom and other things in the fandom, to me personally it represents something deeply personal. A lot of people have found themselves changed and moved by the series and there is a whole page of the author’s website dedicated to fan tattoos based on Phedre’s marque. I would need to have something specifically designed, something to incorporate the different elements of my personality and spirituality if I ever decided to take the plunge. I doubt I could handle a large version, but a smaller one somewhere less ticklish might happen one day.

yubyub“Yub, Yub, Commander”

Star Wars Quote

I’m a massive Star Wars geek, so for me a Star Wars tattoo would have to be suitably geeky and something other fans would recognise. For me this would be the quote ‘Yub, yub, Commander’ from the Star Wars EU (now Legends) X-Wing series. It’s an ongoing joke through the series involving the idea of an ewok pilot;

His name is Kettch, and he’s an Ewok.
Oh, yes. Determined to fight. You should hear him say, ‘Yub, yub.’ He makes it a battle cry.
Wes, assuming he could be educated up to Alliance fighter-pilot standards, an Ewok couldn’t even reach an X-wing’s controls.
He wears arm and leg extensions, prosthetics built for him by a sympathetic medical droid. And he’s anxious to go, Commander.
Please tell me you’re kidding.
Of course I’m kidding. Pilot-candidate number one is a Human female from Tatooine, Falynn Sandskimmer.
I’m going to get you, Janson.
Yub, yub, Commander.
―Wes Janson and Wedge Antilles

You can read more about Kettch, his exploits and the pranks involving him here. If you’ve not had a chance to read these novels; do! They may not be canon any more but they are hilarious.

buffy“The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.”

Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I’ve talked about how much Buffy means to me and how much it got me through in my teen years and early 20s. There were so many lessons from that show that have stuck with me, but this one in particular rang true. My life is hard, I’m not gloating or looking for sympathy, it’s a simple fact. This quote is a reminder to me that it will be hard, it is hard for everyone, and I am not alone. There is light in the darkness.

World of Warcraft

I love World of Warcraft and the lore of the universe, so naturally I’d have to have a tattoo from the game. I’m a pet battle addict and these are my two favourite pets (appearance wise, don’t ask me for my favourite battle pet!).

“When in doubt, shoot the wizard.”

Advice from Numair to Kel in Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce

This is my literary geeky submission to this list. I love this quote from Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce, and like the Star Wars one it is something that only fans of the books would recognise.

8 Noteworthy Notebooks You’ll Want To Buy

Sharing Saturday: Noteworthy notebooks

I love notebooks and I’m always on the look out for pretty and unique ones. So here is a selection taken from my pinterest board Noteworthy Notebooks.

From left to right starting with the first row:

1 – Filigree Journals from Gaelsong Slightly more expensive than most of the notebooks on this list but I couldn’t resist including them. They’re just so beautiful and elegant.

2 – OWL Journal  from susie ghahremani – I love this hand painted journal that continues inside the journal, making it cute inside and out.

3 – Leather rose notebook from GILDBookbinders –  The most expensive notebook on this list, it is a gorgeous leather bound book which is thick and has a beautiful rose on the front. There’s several different colours and designs, but the gold on green is my favourite. It’s so stunning.

4 – Desk Pad from Marks and Spencers –  This is very different to everything else here, and while it isn’t my usual style, I like the functionality of it. Sometimes just a normal notebook isn’t up to the job, and having multiple post-it notes or lists all over the place can get a bit messy!

5 – Star Wars Moleskin from Wordery These came out with the new film last year and I love the simple design of them. Often I find Star Wars merchandise is very flashy and even a bit OTT, especially for notebooks. That’s great for kids, but if you’re looking for something a bit more mature or arty then these Moleskins are right on the money.

6 – Floral Rose Pattern & Butterfly Canvas from Amazon – This is my typical style notebook. I’m not really a girly girl but I am always attracted to floral patterns and especially butterflies. I seriously could just do a whole one of these on notebooks with butterflies.

7 – Teal Lace Embossed Notebook from W H Smith – It’s simple, it’s cheap and yet so effective. I’m not too keen on the black strap, white would have gone better in my opinion.

8 – Wreck this journal Everywhere from Waterstones – I’ve seen a few people doing instagram challenges like this, in which every day they do something new to/on a blank page in a notebook. I don’t know whether it started as a thing online and then someone marketed it or vice versa. Maybe it’s just a marketing gimmick, but if you’re interested in doing something like this then it’s a place to start.
