60 + Imaginative Fandom & RPGs Inktober Prompts!

Inktober 2018 Prompts - Fandom & RPG

Welcome to the fourth in a series of posts featuring prompts for Inktober – This week the theme is Fandom and RPGs! If you’re not familiar with Inktober I’ll be going into more detail in just a moment but basically it is an art prompt that takes place every October using only ink. There is a set prompt list created by the original Inktober founder, however, it has become such a wonderful community project now that there are so many new prompts popping up each year. Every year Inktober is responsible for the creation of so much fantastic art and connecting people with new artists. It is also so inspiration for many people and with so many fantastic prompts to choose from there is something for everyone! So I wanted to share them all before October comes around so people can take part or start following hashtags to see the wonderful art that emerges from these prompts.

Disclaimer: I have done my best to only include prompts in which the creators have clearly stated they are happy for people to share and take part in. If I have accidentally included a personal one or you wish for your prompt to be removed from this list please let me know and I’ll be happy to oblige.

About Inktober

Inktober is an art prompt that was originally created in 2009 by Jake Parker who wanted a challenge to develop his inking skills. It has grown from there to become a worldwide event with thousands of artists of all skill levels taking part. The prompt consists of 31 words that act as a prompt, an idea for an ink drawing for each day. As explained in the FAQ section of the Inktober website participants are welcome to use whatever medium they want and interpret the prompts in their own way. That includes working with calligraphy and lettering if that is your field of interest. In general the rules are pretty much lax about everything; if you want to do one a day or several in one day then that’s fine too! The whole point is to get together, challenge yourself and most of all have some fun doing it 🙂

Below is the official Inktober 2018 prompt list:

Fandom & RPGs

We’ve had Magic & Fantasy, Horror & Supernatural and Nature prompts, and now it’s time to take inspiration from the fandoms we all know and love. Whether it be your favourite video game that you’ve logged hours into exploring or beating that level, that TV show or anime you love to binge, the timeless movie classics or the books that give you endless pleasure. These prompts are dedicated to all things fandom – and RPGs! With the likes of Critical Role and other groups streaming their DnD sessions more people are becoming roleplaying geeks which is fantastic to see. So you’ll also find in here a bunch of DnD and roleplaying related prompts including one for Critical Role and Exalted.

For Inktober, I’m going to be doing Kaitober if that is even a thing. I’ll make it a thing. I kind of want to promote some producers that use Kaito in their songs by drawing fan art of those songs throughout October. If you all want to join and blow up the Kaito tag that would be awesome. For those who don’t know who or what Kaito is, he is a computer software called VOCALOID that is used to create songs. He is the first male Japanese VOCALOID. All copyright goes to Crypton Future Media and the Song Producers (and Internet Co. for a few songs in the playlist…). I’ll just be drawing fan art because Kaito needs all the love. I made a playlist of all the songs featured in this Prompt in order. https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9N3Or5H6rljdPNPegTswJd547L-TIkDt #vocaloid #kaito #kaitovocaloid #kaitober2018 #inktober2018 #myprompt #projectdiva #kaitov1 #kaitov3 #cryptonfuturemedia #inktoberprompts2018 #inktoberprompt #kaitober

Interview with Designer Mija

Interview

Whenever I can I take the opportunityto interview someone from the online world. They could be someone creative, quirky, geeky or a fellow spoonie. I’m really not picky; the whole point of this is to open up dialogue, share with the world and if you wish, bring awareness to your work or a cause. Interviews are open to anyone who wishes to take part so if you’re interested in volunteering please check out the Interview information page.

This time Mija has voluntered to talk about her work as designer for the site Mind-Speaks.com, a site she runs with her two sisters. Read on to find out how she became a designer and what she brings to the sister’s creative blog.

The Interview

Hi. Please tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Mija and I am a 1 out of 3 sisters on Mind-Speaks.com! We all have different disciplines but I work on all things print and web for the site. Right now my favorite things are stickers and stationery.

How did you get into design?
I went to school for design and work as a full-time designer. Mind-Speaks.com lets me play and do fun projects I personally love!!

How many years have you been doing it?
I have been a designer for over 10 years. We started Mind-Speaks.com in 2010!

What does your design mean to you?
Doing designs for Mind-Speaks helps me really express what I like. I do designs that reflect my fandoms and hobbies! I also do freelance and design for other people. So when I design for Mind-Speaks, it’s truly for myself. I try to make things that I would use personally in my life!

What was the first time you realized that was what you wanted to do?
Probably in 6th grade, we got our first family pc – it was loaded with HP Print Shop. I would play all day on there designing greeting cards to send to family! Each one had A VERA CARD, printed on the back!!

I also grew up a huge fan of Lisa Frank, I collected stationery and stickers like most girls in the early 90s. That stationery influenced me even as a young girl!

What is your proudest moment?
We recently through an Usagi Birthday Bash! Probably one of my favorite things we have done! We got to meet new people who love Sailor Moon as much as we do AND give away tons of stickers and jewelry!

What was the first product/artwork you ever sold?
Oh, on Mind-Speaks.com it would probably be my Sailor Moon 3DS cases!!! I might actually bring them back!  Right now I am designing stickers and stationery sets on our Etsy.

What are your goals for the future? What do you hope to achieve?
To try to do more events, perhaps buy a table at an artist alley at a local con and join like-minded nerds!

What was the best advice you were ever given?
Stop when it is no longer fun.

Any advice for others wanting to get into design?
You have to think of the design of just more than art onto paper or web, textiles and tangible items also need to be considered! Especially if you are rebranding yourself! You have to also think about everything: fonts, colors, packaging….everything is representing yourself!

Now for some random questions…

If you were the god/goddess of anything, what would it be?
I would love to be a goddess of stationery! I love stationery more than any other paper items. I probably get way too excited when I see an amazing lined envelope!

What would your animal form be?
Oh, I hope it would be a bird. Flying would be amazing and a cooler way of traveling than running around everywhere!

Do you have any fun quirks?
I am a tad OCD, especially with color! Everything always has to be organized or lined up by color. I also love matching sets, so I tend to go overboard when wanting to add so many items into my stationery sets I design! If I see things in my favorite color, I tend to gravitate to it and hope they are also in my sisters’ favorite colors so I can also pick them up one. Especially stationery or washi tape!

Do you collect anything?
I have a nice comic book collection that I share with my husband, we also have action figures to match the comics we have been collecting! My craft area is filled with so many different shades and thickness of paper. also, have a nice vinyl collection of vintage showtunes albums! I bet that last one is random!!!

And finally; time for a shameless plug:
I would love you guys to check Mind-Speaks.com, my craft blog I share with my sisters. We post projects we are working on, DIY instructions, recipes and reviews on local nerd hangouts around Houston, TX. We also sell some stickers, stationery sets and other cutesy items! 5 Fandoms I Couldn’t Get Into [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Fandoms I couldn't get into

This week Fandom 5 is about podcasts and since I don’t actually follow any (I occasionally listen in to Chris’ ones) I decided to do the one from the previous week which I missed.

got

Game of Thrones

I love fantasy, I like the themes in the show/novels and yet I just can’t get into it. I’ve tried reading one of the books, I’ve watched 1-2 seasons and I’m just not hooked in the slightest. I’m not ruling it out completely, but at the moment, I have so many other books and tv shows I want to read/watch that it is very far down in the pile.

lotr

Tolkien

I admire Tolkien as a world maker. He was a genius but I cannot stand his writing style and honestly? I’m not that enamoured with the whole story of Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit. It just doesn’t do anything for me. I’ve watched all the Lord of the Rings movies, and again while I appreciate the epic costumes, sets, and special effects, I just don’t like the movies themselves.

walkingThe Walking Dead

I’m not a big zombie fan. I can take my zombies with other urban fantasy stuff (such as Anita Blake) but just zombies? Boring! Yeah, I know there’s a lot more to this fandom and I’ve seen some bits of episodes. While I’m curious about some, some of it just downright freaks me out – and it isn’t the zombies, it’s the people. I know people suck, I don’t need to know just how bad they will devolve in an apocalypse.

pokemonPokemon

I absolutely love pet battles in World of Warcraft, which pretty much are a rip off of Pokemon. But Pokemon itself doesn’t interest me. For me, WoW pet battles are part of a much bigger game and are a fun addition to the world. An entire game based on finding pets and so on? Nope, not for me. They’re cute, but that is about it.

mangaManga/Anime

I dislike manga and anime for several reasons, but most of all the way it looks. I just dislike the style of animation and do not get me started on the female characters. Oh my goodness, they drive me crazy. When Chris is watching anime I wince at the squeaky girlie voices. While I’ll admit there are some gorgeous pieces of manga art out there, there is just too many factors that annoy me about manga and anime.
