Azerite Stalker (mail) #TransmogTuesday

The final set of the Azerite mini-theme and what a pain in my ass it was! To say I’m not happy with this set is an understatement, but here it is nonetheless. I don’t feel that it quite captures the essence of the azerite colours compared to the other sets (cloth, leather, plate are here if you missed them) and that is more because there simply aren’t the mail pieces in those colours available. In the end I chose to go with a darker blue and bronze-gold to represent the colours with a hint of lighter blue in the shoulders.

All the mail piece are non-class specific, however, the head piece is optional. I struggled to find a suitable head piece and then found one that worked perfectly. The downside? It’s a hunter only item;  [wowhead id=71095]. The set looks perfectly fine without a head piece so Shamans you can work it without the head just as well. I also chose a bow to go with this set as I’ve showcased other azerite themed weapons on the other sets that would match this set. So Shamans please check those out for weapons.

The bow [wowhead id=112918] comes in two colour options that work for this set depending on your own personal preference. I personally prefer the lighter coloured one (mythic) featured here, but there is also the brighter/darker hued version [wowhead id=103886] which is from heroic.

About #TransmogTuesday

Every Tuesday is #TransmogTuesday and I’ll be posting with a new creation. My main is a discipline priest called Kaelea, so I do tend to edge towards cloth transmogs more than anything else. The aim of this project is to push my own boundaries, to get creative and work on some themes and ideas I’d normally not consider. That means I’m open to suggestions! Themes, colours, a transmog set around a particular item? Let me know 🙂

You can see my pre-existing work over at Wowhead where I’ll also be uploaded any and all sets. ((Texture used in banner is from Mercurycode.))

Over To You

Now that the mini azerite theme is over, how did you like it?

Do you want to see more mini themes in the future based on in game items/materials?

Let me know in the comments, as always I’d love to hear from you 🙂

10 Books at the top of my TBR list!

10 Books at the top of my TBR Pile!

I’m in a massive reading slump right now and it’s not because I can’t decide what to read, or have nothing to read. I have loads of both! It’s an energy thing. I just have so many things going on right now that I feel like I don’t have the time or energy to devote to reading. Hopefully once I get back into the swing of things around here that will change! I also thought if I remind myself of all the awesomeness just waiting for me at the top of my TBR (to be read) pile that it might kick start my reading too.

Starless by Jacqueline Carey

Starless by Jacqueline Carey

Lush and sensual, Starless introduces us to an epic world where exiled gods live among us, and a hero whose journey will resonate long after the last page is turned.

Carey is one of my favourite authors so as soon as I heard that she had a new book out I was excited. Then I read the synopsis and got even more intrigued! A new fantasy world by an author I love where exiled gods live among people? Hell yes!

The Shadow by Marianne Curley

The Shadow by Marianne Curley

The battle is over. The war is won. The prophecy complete. But life can’t just pick up where it left off for Ethan. Struggling to cope with the death of his soulmate, at odds with his friends in the Guard, he finds himself adrift, jumping at shadows and sensing someone who can’t possibly be there.

I’ve cut the summary short as the rest of it gives major spoilers for the original trilogy of books; the Guardians of Time Trilogy. I absolutely loved the original series, however, it has been years since I read them and my memories of the final book are hazy to say the least. That doesn’t mean I’m not super excited to have a brand new adventure to read! I never expected this story to continue so I literally have no idea where this book is going to go and that just makes me even more desperate to get my hands on it.

Tempests and Slaugher by Tamora Pierce

Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce

In Tempests and Slaughter, fans of Tamora Pierce will be rewarded with the never-before-told story of how Numair Salmalin came to Tortall. Newcomers will discover an unforgettable fantasy adventure where a kingdom’s future rests on the shoulders of a young man with unimaginable gifts and a talent for making vicious enemies.

I’ve lost count of how many years (possibly even a decade by now) that fans, including myself, have been waiting for this book to be released. Pierce’s Tortall universe is one of my favourite book universes of all time and Numair is one of the main characters of her second quartet (The Immortals quartet) from it. She promised to go back and write about Numair’s past and the events that ultimately shaped the The Immortals quartet, and finally we have a published book. I have mixed feelings about this because as much as I love Numair I’d much rather she be writing about something new, about future events rather than going back and writing about the past. Still, I know it will be a fantastic read and I’m just glad to have any new book by Pierce, so it makes this list.

Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Various Authors

Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by Various Authors

In honor of the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, this unique anthology features Star Wars stories by bestselling authors, trendsetting artists, and treasured voices from Star Wars’ literary history. Over 40 authors have lent their unique vision to 40 “scenes,” each retelling a different moment from the original Star Wars film, but with a twist: every scene is told from the point of view of a seemingly minor character. Whether it’s the X-wing pilots who helped Luke destroy the Death Star or the stormtroopers who never did find the droids they were looking for, Star Wars: From A Certain Point of View places the classic movie in a whole new perspective celebrates the influence and legacy of the unparalleled cultural phenomenon, Star Wars.

There are so many awesome things about this book that as soon as I heard about it I knew that I didn’t just need to read it but I needed a copy to keep. I just love the whole concept of the book, and having read a few snippets of it I really cannot wait to read the whole thing. It’s a set of fantastic authors at the top of their game showing their love for Star Wars through a truly unique way.

A Plague of Giants by Kevin Hearne

A Plague of Giants by Kevin Hearne

From the east came the Bone Giants. From the south, the fire-wielding Hathrim.

It was an invasion that sparked war across the six nations of Teldwen. Now the kingdom’s only hope is the discovery of a new form of magic – one that will call the wondrous beasts of the world to fight by the side of humankind.

I’ll be honest this initially came to my attention because it is the new series by the incredibly talented Kevin Hearne, who’s Iron Druid series is fantastic. If you’ve not read it yet, go read it NOW! Add in that it’s an epic fantasy series with a war of scales and a discovery of a new magic? I’m definitely checking it out.

Scourged by Gail Z Martin

Scourged by Gail Z Martin

The city-state of Ravenwood is wealthy, powerful, and corrupt. Merchant Princes and Guild Masters wager fortunes to outmaneuver League rivals for the king’s favor and advantageous trading terms. Lord Mayor Ellor Machison wields assassins, blood witches, and forbidden magic to assure that his powerful patrons get what they want, no matter the cost. Corran, Rigan, and Kell Valmonde are Guild Undertakers, left to run their family’s business when guards murdered their father and monsters killed their mother. Their grave magic enables them to help souls pass to the After and banish vengeful spirits. Rigan’s magic is unusually strong and enables him to hear the confessions of the dead, the secrets that would otherwise be taken to the grave. When the toll exacted by monsters and brutal guards hits close to home and ghosts expose the hidden sins of powerful men, Corran, Rigan and Kell become targets in a deadly game and face a choice: obey the Guild, or fight back and risk everything.

Martin has written many books since her Chronicles of the Necromancer days, another firm favourite of mine, and I want to read them all. However, this one sounds most like her Ascended Kingdoms series with a group of friends who have been thrown into trouble. I loved her take on necromancy and spirit magic in that series, so the idea of grave magic also really appeals to me.

World of Warcraft: Before the Storm by Christie Golden

World of Warcraft: Before the Storm by Christie Golden

The Horde and the Alliance defeated the demonic Burning Legion, but a dire catastrophe is unfolding deep below the surface of the world. There is a mortal wound in the heart of Azeroth, struck by the sword of the fallen titan Sargeras in a final act of cruelty.

For Anduin Wrynn, king of Stormwind, and Sylvanas Windrunner, warchief of the Horde and queen of the Forsaken, there is little time to rebuild what remains, and even less to mourn what was lost. Azeroth’s devastating wound has revealed a mysterious material known as Azerite. In the right hands, this strange golden substance is capable of incredible feats of creation; in the wrong ones, it could bring forth unthinkable destruction.

As Alliance and Horde forces race to uncover the secrets of Azerite and heal the wounded world, Anduin enacts a desperate plan aimed at forging a lasting peace between the factions. Azerite jeopardizes the balance of power, and so Anduin must gain the trust of Sylvanas. But the Dark Lady ever has her own machinations.

For peace to be possible, generations of bloodshed and hatred must be put to rest. But there are truths that neither side is willing to accept and ambitions they are loath to relinquish. As Alliance and Horde alike grasp for the Azerite’s power, their simmering conflict threatens to reignite all-out war-a war that would spell doom for Azeroth.

I’ve read every World of Warcraft novel to date, and usually try to do so before the new expansion hits. Sadly this time I didn’t get a chance so I need to get my hands on this one ASAP. I’ve already had a part of it spoiled for me but I know from reading previous novels just how much goodies and extra information they pack in these books. If you’re a lore nerd they’re a must!

Moon Chosen by PC Cast

Moon Chosen: Tales of a New World by PC Cast

Mari is an Earth Walker, heir to the unique healing powers of her Clan; but she has cast her duties aside, until she is chosen by a special animal ally, altering her destiny forever. When a deadly attack tears her world apart, Mari reveals the strength of her powers and the forbidden secret of her dual nature as she embarks on a mission to save her people. It is not until Nik, the son of the leader from a rival, dominating clan strays across her path, that Mari experiences something she has never felt before…

Now, darkness is coming, and with it, a force, more terrible and destructive than the world has ever seen, leaving Mari to cast the shadows from the earth. By forming a tumultuous alliance with Nik, she must make herself ready. Ready to save her people. Ready to save herself and Nik. Ready to embrace her true destiny…and obliterate the forces that threaten to destroy them all.

I’m a big fan of PC Cast & Kristin Cast’s House of Night series so I took note when they both started on new series. I’ve been really interested in PC Cast’s new book as I’m interested to find out more about the special animal ally and the bond Mari shares with it. There’s a lot of information in the synopsis and at the same time it doesn’t tell us much at all! This is one book that has peeked my curiosity for a while now and I really want to see if it’s as good as I’ve heard.

Warlock Homes: A Study in Brimstone by GS Denning

Warlock Holmes: A Study in Brimstone by GS Denning

Warlock Holmes is an idiot. Frankly, he couldn’t deduce his way out of a paper bag. The only thing he has really got going for him are his arcane power, the might of a thousand demons and his stalwart flatmate. Thankfully, Dr. Watson is always there to aid him through the treacherous shoals of Victorian propriety … and save him from a gruesome death every now and again.

Sherlock Holmes as a warlock? Brilliant! There are now three books in the series and each book has gotten fantastic reviews. As a fan of the originals, of Sherlock adaptations, Victorian horror and urban fantasy this book is right up my street.

Witchsign by Den Patrick

Witchsign by Den Patrick

It has been seventy-five years since the dragons’ rule of fire and magic was ended. Out of the ashes, the Solmindre Empire was born.

Since then, the tyrannical Synod has worked hard to banish all manifestations of the arcane from existence. However, children are still born bearing the taint of the arcane, known to all as witchsign. Vigilants are sent out across the continent of Vinterkveld to find and capture all those bearing the mark.

No one knows when the Vigilants of the Synod will appear and enforce the Empire’s laws.

But today they’re coming.

And gods help those who bear the sign of the witch.

I’m not at all familiar with Patrick’s work, however, as soon as I heard about this book I was drawn to it. The whole premise just sounds fantastic and I have so many questions. Who has the sign of the witch? Who are the characters we are going to meet? Are the dragons going to come back? This is the sort of book that has so many possibilities and I want to find out what they are pronto.

Over to You

My TBR list tends to be never ending, although it is typical for me to have a list like this of books that are new releases by authors I love with a few new authors thrown in too. I have loads of new authors on my TBR list by I try to refrain from trying too many at once because if I get hooked on them that’s just even more books to add to my list!

Do you try to manage your TBR?

Do you have a never-ending huge one like I do, or do you have a small regulated one?

Have you read any of the books on my list?

Did any of these books just get added to your TBR?

Let me know in the comments! Also if you’re on GoodReads.com don’t forget to pop me a friends request 🙂

Check out the 10 books that made it to the top of my huge TBR (to be read) pile featuring lots of fantasy and a Sherlock Holmes adaptation.

Azerite Assassin (leather) #TransmogTuesday

Transmog Tuesday - Azzerite Assassin Set

Next time I decide to do a mini theme someone please remind me to check to see if it is actually doable before I decide to do it! I’ve spent the last past weekend battling with mail items trying to put a set together before I gave up and moved on to leather. That wasn’t that much easier and I’m not particularly happy with my less than unique set (it’s more heavily based on a set than I’d have liked) but hey, at least it exists unlike the mail set.

The Azerite Assassin set is a much more subdued take on the azerite hues of yellow golds and azure blues, which I suppose is fitting for an assassin. After all it’s no good having those bright colours flashing about when you’re trying to stealth about, right? Most of the set is based around the Tier 13 Rogue raid set with some changes here and there. Usually I just have the chest and legs, however, this time it was really hard to find matching pieces so there are quite a few pieces. As always there are non-tier equivalent pieces available so any leather user can wear this set.

Over To You

As I said I struggled with this one quite a lot so some feedback would be great!

Do you feel that this still fits with the Azerite theme even with the subdue colour scheme? Or did I totally drop the ball on this one?

Do you mind a transmog set being based quite heavily on a pre-existing set (raid tier or otherwise) or do you prefer sets that are more unique?

Let me know in the comments, as always I’d love to hear from you 🙂

Azerite Defender [Plate] #TransmogTuesday

Transmog Tuesdat - Azerite Defender

I decided to pick plate for the next azerite themed set thinking, hey, paladin sets have loads of of blue and gold stuff and there’s look alike gear so I can put together a non-class set. It’ll be easy! Boy, was I wrong. In a nut shell; the pvp sets have perfect stuff but then I’d need to do one set per plate class. In the end I actually went back to my first choice so sometimes it pays to just go with your instincts!

The Azerite Defender set is based on the Paladin tier 15 raid set which has non-class equivalents available. It also comes in a yellow equivalent ([wowhead id=96016]) and the matching boots also have a chunkier equivalent too ([wowhead id=96460]), making this one of the most adaptable sets I think I’ve ever made. Although I’ve chosen a one hander and a shield to accompany the set you could quite easily use [wowhead id=112546] in both hands or find other weapons of your choice.

Azerite Wizard [Cloth] #TransmogTuesday

Azerite Transmog Series - Azerite Wizard Set (Cloth)

I absolutely love the colour combination of Azerite. Everytime I’m running around doing my Azerite world quests I’m in awe of the beautiful hues of azure and gold whirling around me, and I one time I suddenly thought ‘hey this would look awesome as a transmog!’. So you guessed it; I’m doing a mini-Azerite themed transmog series! The next four weeks will be one for each equipment type starting with cloth this week. This set features [wowhead id=4041] for the head piece but it also looks amazing with [wowhead id=2620], however, this may be a rare item to get as wowhead’s comments were a bit sketchy on whether it was still available. I prefer to make my sets as easy to complete as possible so I avoid items that are no longer available. It is perfect for this set though so I wanted to make a note of it for anyone who does have it. Image issues: Once again Wow Model Viewer has a few bugs in it still and for some reason cloaks aren’t showing in the current beta release. Also the cowl style head pieces didn’t want to sit properly on the human male model. You can hover over the oufit link for Azerite Wizard to see the full correct transmog or follow the link to Wowhead.
