5 Films I’m Excited For In 2017 [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - 2017 movies I'm excited for

I really expected this to be a difficult prompt to choose, but there were only a few others that made the cut! There’s loads I’m interested in seeing, however, these 5 are the ones I am most excited for in 2017. In descending order, starting with #5 on my list…

Beauty & The Beast

I absolutely love the animated film, it is one of my favourite Disney films, so naturally I am both excited and worried about this adaptation. It has a fab cast, and I’m a huge fan of Emma Watson so I’m hoping it will be as awesome as it sounds. I’ve been avoiding all trailers and spoilers as I want to a clean experience with this one.

Justice League

My first introduction to Justice League was in Smallville, and so I’m really curious to see how this one comes out. I am really happy with Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and surprisingly, Ben Affleck’s Batman. I’ve not quite gotten around to many DC comic books, so most of what I know I’ve picked up or read around online. I’m generally just a big fan of comic book adaptations and team ups! The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the Flash. Sorry Ezra Miller, but Grant Gustin is my Barry Allen and I just can’t look at you and picture the character at all!

Spider-man: Homecoming

I grew up on the Spider-man animated cartoons of the 90s; when cartoon network came out in the UK it was on daily and I was constantly watching it (along with X-Men the animated series). I love spidy, and while I’ve enjoyed the previous movies, I ADORED Tom Holland’s version in Civil War. He was spot on, and I am so so excited to see what he can do in a full movie dedicated to his spidy!

Wonder Woman

I have never been a big Wonder Woman fan. Like I said, I’ve not read many DC comics so I really don’t know her that well. However, Batman vs. Superman seriously sparked my interest and I LOVED Gal Gadot’s portrayal of her. I cannot wait to see her in action!

Star Wars: Episode VIII

Of course, it is my most anticipated film of 2017 and probably the last on this list to come out! I am desperate to know what is going on, to find out who exactly Rey is and where Luke has been. Not to mention learning more about his Jedi Temple and trainees, and what happened with Kylo Ren. I have so many questions and I get the feeling that I will get some answers, but not all of them.

Are any of these on your list? What are you looking forward to?

5 Nerdy Places I Want To Travel To [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Nerdy places to visit

I have to admit; this week’s prompt had me a little stumped and it took me a while to think it through. For me, nerdy locations are a mixture of fandom related and cultural related. I’m not one for going to visit a location where my favourite movie was filmed, for example. So here is my top 5 nerdy places I’d like to visit! If you’re curious, I have a whole pinterest board dedicated to places I’d like to visit and another listing places I’ve already visited.

Aphrodite’s Temple, Aphrodisias Turkey

As a Pagan my patron goddess is Aphrodite, and so for me to visit a temple dedicated to her would be amazing. Honestly, I’m not sure how to even explain how it feels. I’ve had the fortunate to visit one temple before and it just felt so surreal. I’m also an art history graduate so I have an interest in the architecture and history too!

Musée d’Orsay, Paris

The Musée d’Orsay is a gallery dedicated to Impressionist art, a school of art that was disliked and mocked when it was first created. This was the first gallery to show Impressionist pieces, which in itself is a historical moment. Impressionism is one of my favourite schools of art, as well as being one that I enjoyed studying for my degree so a trip to the Musée d’Orsay is very high on my list!

Lascaux Caves, France

These caves are one of the few places where you can see centuries old art that has been excellently preserved. It’s a natural treasure that contains the work of generations of people and it’s just phenomenal.

Disneyland & Universal Studios

I’ve never been to either, and would love to go to both. I’d especially love to go to a Star Wars weekend! They’ve only just started having those in Europe, so until recently I’d have to go to the US version. I’ve been to Disneyland Paris twice, but it isn’t as big and doesn’t have Universal Studios and so on.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

We’re both Potter fans so we’d both get a kick out of going there and being able to walk down Diagon Alley and generally geek out!

Do you have any particular nerdy places you want to go? Do you find that you want to visit places where shows and films were filmed?

5 Characters I Want to Dress Up as for Halloween [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Characters I want to dress up as for Halloween

Star Wars – Mara Jade

My favourite all time character, so of course she has to be first on this list! Her outfit is very simple to make and I’ve dyed my hair the correct colour in the past so that’s also easy!

Star Wars – Leia

Sadly, Mara is no longer actual Star wars canon (yet) so my actual canon choice which most people would recognise is Leia. Particularly this outfit as I have wanted to dress up in this iconic outfit since I was a teenager!

Disney – Belle

Despite loving Disney, I don’t feel a big attachment to many of the female protagonists so this was easy to narrow down. Belle is a fantastic character, and a book lover to boot!

Kushiel Legacy – Phedre

This is definitely one for the daring list, but I love the idea of the marques (full back tattoo) while I couldn’t have a permanent one (I’m too ticklish!) I’d love to have one for Halloween or a costume ball.

World of Warcraft – My Main

If I had the time, the skill and the ability to recreate some of the gorgeous characters and appearances from World of Warcraft I have a feeling I’d never stop. Choosing an NPC is insanely difficult, but I’d love to dress up as my main character, my human priest.

Incredible Disney Fanart You Need To See

Sharing Saturday: Disney Fan Art

This week Sharing Saturday is a special edition. Earlier this week we laid to rest my nan, the woman who introduced me to the magic of Disney. She was a huge fan of Disney and so it seems only right to dedicate this week to her love. So here is a selection of my favourite Disney fanart on Deviant Art.

Disclaimer: The work here is displayed only out of admiration and credit is given for every image (I use the ’embed’ code directly from dA). If you are the artist and want your work removed please leave me a comment. If you like some of the art here please take the time to visit the artist’s DeviantArt and/or leave a comment to let them know. This is probably obvious, but: this post is very image heavy.

Geek on the High Street

Sharing Saturday: Geek on the High Street

Now that it’s autumn and there’s new clothing lines in, it’s time for round 2 of Geek on the High Street! The aim of Geek on the High Street is to find and highlight geeky products that can be found in normal high street stores. Unfortunately a lot of womens clothes stores and department stores like Debenhams & M&S consider geeky stuff to be for men or children. So Geek on the High Street was born to shine a light on some of the hidden geeky treasures for geek girls. I’ll be mainly focusing on women’s fashion since mostly women read my blog, but if anyone is interested in a male version please let me know in the comments! You can check out round 1 here 🙂

This time I decided to create a pinterest board as well, and have pinned everything I’ve found on that board. This post only features a few of my favourites while the pinterest board has everything! 🙂

Please note – To view an item closer please click the image to see a bigger size.

New Look

New Look are continuing their love for unicorns in a range of products including these awesome t-shirts that I thought were fantastic! There’s also an umbrella and some lovely purses with cats and unicorns too.

Sports Direct

Sports Direct remains the ruler of Geek on the High Street by far and right now a bunch of awesome stuff is on sale with ‘MUST GO’ tags. So go go go! There’s t-shirts, leggings, dresses, swim wear… really so much and all pinned on the pinterest board!

   George (Asda)

Sadly, George at Asda doesn’t have any geeky t-shirts or main clothing products but they do have a whole bunch of wonderful underwear and sleeping wear. How awesome are those Teenage Ninja Turtle briefs?!

Dorothy Perkings

Dorothy Perkings is sadly not very geek girl friendly, but I did find these cute quirky socks that I thought would appeal to come geeky girls.

H & M

H & M has a range of Disney and Band/Rock products to choose from. Here’s some of my favourites, and also a random esoteric/alchemy tote bag that I came across (and may have fell in love with…. 😉 ).

Miss Selfridge

Carrying on the popular trend of Minnie and Mickey is Miss Selfridge and here’s a selection of some of their products featuring Disney’s infamous couple.

Another store that seems to think geeky stuff belongs firmly in the men or kids section is Next, however, I did find these few items that are a bit on the geeky side. Personally I love the Mouse socks, I think they’re so cute and elegant and a touch subtle.

River Island

Found these few gems in River Island; that cat t-shirt screams geek to me!

Tesco/Tesco Direct

I know Tesco has its own clothing range, however, the website is for Tesco Direct which doesn’t really tell me whether these can be found in store. On the website there is a load of geeky stuff, however, this is Geek on the High Street not Geek on the web. I wanted to include a few of the goodies I found there because there is some seriously awesome stuff and if you have a Tesco near you, take a look sometime and see! More on the pinterest board if you want to see what else I found.

TK Maxx

TK Maxx is more about brand names at affordable prices so they don’t tend to have much geeky stuff, occasionally you’ll find a few and these are what I found. A random Superpowers top which comes in a range of colours and this Art Loves unite which I thought might appeal to some artistis/art geeks 🙂

Top Shop

Top Shop had a reputation to keep up with after my surprise finds last time and it didn’t disappoint! There’s a range of Disney stuff, some random geeky things like the NASA and Dinosaur tops featured above, band/rock t-shirts and some Snoopy thrown in there too. Like before, everything I found is on the pinterest board.

So it turns out that Uniquo have an arrangement with Disney and these are just some of the wonderful results. As you can see there’s still some Minnie & Mickey, but a load of other Disney characters too! I am so excited to see the chipmunks (!!) and love the Tangled and Belle t-shirts. Be sure to check out the whole range on the pinterest board.

I hope you enjoyed this round of Geek on the High Street! Is there anything that caught your eye? Anything I’ve missed? Let me know!
