10 Blog Tags To Promote Your Blog While Having Fun!

Blog Promo Links - Blog Tags & Surveys

Last month I featured facebook groups which are a pretty standard and well known tool for promoting your blog. This month I wanted to highlight one that is of a completely different vein. Blog tags, also known as surveys and questionnaires, are a method that also help you develop new content for your blog while promoting it. So how do they work? Pretty simple! Each tag works around the same idea an activity, usually a set of questions that the blogger needs to answer.  Once you’ve answered your questions you then nominate other bloggers to do it.

How does this benefit me?

Usually each blogger will link back to whoever nominated them, specifically linking to their tag answers so others can check it out. In doing so other people will reach your blog and from there browse your blog. I’m speaking from experience here because I and other bloggers have done it many times! Blog tags are a great way too meet new people and build up a network of contacts too.

How do I find tags?

You first stop should be the Blog Tags & Survey section of my Blog Promo Links pinterest board! I’ve been filling it up with all different sorts of tags for you to look through. There’s also Tag Questions and YouTube Society’s tag section which have loads of lists of tags to choose from or get some inspiration from to create your own. Another way, and literally how I’ve hunted so many down, is to find a blogger who’s completed a tag and then search their blog for tags. Just pop ‘tag’ in their blog and follow the link trails! I warn you though it is a very very deep rabbit hole and I am not responsible if you get lost for several hours πŸ˜‰ (*cough* I may be talking from experience…)

The wide variety of tags out there means that you can also add content that’s a little bit different from your usual niche, allowing you to dip your toe in that pond and appeal to a different audience too. Tags are extremely popular in the book blogger world, however, don’t let that stop you from taking part in one! I’m a massive bookworm and while I don’t consider myself a book blogger I love taking part in the occasion one like the A-Z Book Survey by The Perpetual Page-Turner. Some tags start on YouTube, and again, don’t let that put you off as a lot of bloggers will translate that into text and do it their way.

My Favourites!

So here are 10 of my favourite Blog tags which I think are not just totally unique, but great fun and this selection should give you an idea of the wide range of topics available.

I wanted to start out with a pretty basic one and that’s the Blogger tag by The Howling Wolf Heart. It’s a tag that asks you a few questions about blogging; how long you’ve beeing doing it, what’s your favourite type of post and what’s the best thing about being a blogger. This is a really generic one, it’s totally nicheless so there’s no reason for any of you reading this not to try it out!

The Gamer Tag by Zombie Goddess Beauty is a great example of a very niche tag; it’s specific to gamers. It’s aimed at video games rather than board games/table top and questions range from favourite genres and characters and to what game you’ve played the most. It’s a tag that can be answered by a hardcore gamer or a casual gamer, so as I said in my introduction if you’re wanting to talk about something a bit different tags like this one are a great way to open up that discussion.

The Geeky Girl Tag is another Tag by Zombie Goddess Beauty (she is a Tag lover and all of her Tags are losted on our pinterest and on her blog, so she’s definetly one to check out if you’re on the hunt!) and it’s a personal favourite of mine because I am a geeky girl and I’ve completed this tag! It covers a range of geeky topics and it’s a great conversation starter even among friends! When it first came out and the geeky girl community started tagging one another we all learned a lot about one another that we didn’t necessarily know, and that started new people chatting and interacting. So this is definitely one to check out.

The British Tag by Samantha Maria is one of the few nationality ones I’ve seen around, and this is an example of one that started life on a YouTube channel and then went huge on the blogosphere. I love it because it is so quintessentially British asking about dunking biscuits and cockney rhyming slang (my dad’s an East end boy so I grew up with cockney rhyming slang even if I don’t sound cockney at all!); it’s fab and on my to do list! If you’re like me and can’t be bothered listening to a bunch of random vids just to get the questions, don’t worry πŸ™‚ Pretty much every tag video lists all the questions in the description so just go grab them and be on your way if you wish. ((Image for the British Tag is from Public Domain Images.))

The 100 Truths Tag from My Random Musings is probably one of the longest tags I’ve ever seen, and it’s a list of quickfire questions which you’re (supposed to) answer truthfully. It’s basically one of those get to know me questionnaires that used to go around as chain e-mails and now makes the rounds on facebook. These sorts of tags are great for telling your audience about yourself, especially if it’s something you struggle with. I know that I completely freeze up whenever I try to do it, so these types of tags act as a prompt. As always just be careful what personal information you divulge online. So I mentioned that Blog Tags are hugely popular in the Book Blog world, and one thing I came across which I think is great fun is themed tags with books. An example is this Wonder Woman Book Tag (I was unable to track down the original creator). Like a normal tag it has questions, however, each question is Wonder Woman themed. So for example, Wonder Woman; name your favourite badass female character, Lasso of Truth; A book you hated, and so on. There are so many different ones ranging from songs by an artist, movies, Disney ones. They all look so much fun!

As a retired roleplayer and now a writer, this tag really appealed to me and it looks like so much fun. The Me in Book Characters Tag by Windowsill Books requires you to describe yourself as characters from books. To do this you have to pick 5 characters from books (you could adjust it to movies or tv if you wish) that are most like you and explain why. I thought this was incredibly unique and quirky so it had to make this list!

The Kiss, Marry, Kill – TV & Book Edition Tag by Life and Other Disasters is a game of kiss, marry, kill but with characters from books and/or TV shows. You then choose a selection method in which you end up with three books/shows per round (10 rounds in total). For each round you have to decide which one you want to kiss, marry or kill. The creator has also done a book version which looks fun too!

The Social Media Tag (creator unknown) is not quite what it sounds like; it’s another example of a themed tag like the Wonder Woman tag except you’re not talking about books. This tag is all about blogger appreciation and each social media represents a category for you to subscribe a blogger to. For example, YouTube is ‘A blog that keeps you entertained’ and Tumblr is ‘A blog which is very diverse and has variety’. ((Image for Social Media Tag banner is from Unsplash.))

The Disabled Blogger Tag by My Blurred World makes this list because Tags are also a great way to show identity and inclusion, or bring awareness to something important to you. This tag talks about how it feels to be a disabled blogger, as well as perceptions people have of disabilities and disabled bloggers. In doing so it helps to open a dialogue as well as offering you a chance to inform your readers. Likewise, it helps you to connect with other bloggers who understand and face the same challenges as you. There are a few more disability related tags that I’ve found on the pinterest board, and if any one knows of any other awareness or identity related ones please do let me know! πŸ™‚ ((Image for Disability banner is from  Unsplash.))

Geeky Girl Tag

The Geeky Girl Tag
I love surveys, memes, challenges – anything that asks me to answer things that I haven’t thought up myself. I’ll often repost those ‘ask me…’ graphics on twitter and instagram to see what people come up with. So when I saw this geeky girl tag answered by Kitten at The Howling Wolfheart I had to jump in!
The tag is originally by Cassie at ZombieGoddess Beauty and she has also done a Gamer Tag too!

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?

Once upon a time I would have said it was my PC, however, after a year of having my tablet it wins this award. I love how much I can do on my tablet, how I can read books, comics, play games, leave myself notes, social media and so on. Only thing I don’t use it for is blogging, I much prefer an actual keyboard for typing.

2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?

I am in Ravenclaw! You can read more about my life in the HP universe in this post from 5 Fandom Friday’s Potter month last year πŸ™‚

3. Who is your favourite Doctor?

10! I do love all the other new Doctors (sorry, I’ve not watched any older stuff yet!) in their own way but the first one that springs to mind will always be David Tennant’s Doctor πŸ™‚

4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

I would probably go with someone old, wise and immortal who has travelled and seen so much. I think the Doctor or Captain Jack would be awesome, and likewise, Yoda too.

5. What is your gaming system of choice?

PC πŸ™‚ Consoles hurt my fingers πŸ™

6. If you had a super power, what would it be?

Healing; as a spoonie the idea of being able to ease someone’s pain sounds like the best superpower of all to me.

7. What is your favourite fantasy world?

One, just one? Oh man… I’m sorry, I can’t pick just one. It would be a toss up between Azeroth (World of Warcraft), Tortall (Tamora Pierce’s novels) and Terre D’Ange (Jacqueline Carey’s novels)!

8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?

Twi’lek! I love Twi’leks so much, they’re beautiful, graceful and I could be purple!

9. Star Trek or Star Wars?

Pft… you need to ask? πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰

10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV Series.

I’m going to go with TV Shows:
  • Supernatural
  • Eureka
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Scorpion
  • Bones
11. List your top 5 favourite video games.
  •  World of Warcraft
  • Dragon Age (whole series)
  • Fable III

Tagging

I don’t have anyone in particular in mind, I’m late to the party so many people have already done it! So please tag yourself and let me know in the comments if you take part πŸ™‚

World of Warcraft: Legion Beta Screenshots

World of Warcraft: Legion Beta Screenshots

I’ve been a World of Warcraft player since the beginning (check out my characters here!) and was super excited to get an invite to the Beta. My fiance, Chris, got one too so we’ve been having great fun exploring. As we’re alliance players normally we’ve chosen to go horde for the beta because normally we never get to experience the horde storylines (my biggest horde is like 50 something) and we didn’t want to entirely spoil the expansion for ourselves.

I love taking screenshots and have an entire gallery dedicated to them. So naturally new beta, tonnes of screenshots time πŸ˜€ I’m sharing them on my Facebook page Ruby Wings Network so if you’re interested or know someone who is, please take look and like the page πŸ™‚

Warning: There are spoilers and all albums are tagged with a spoiler warning.

5 Fandoms I LOVE But Didn’t Think I Would! [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - fandoms I didn't think I'd love

It has been a crazy week so a slightly later than planned Fandom 5 this week and I apologise that it’s also going to be a bit on the short side. I’m getting to the end of assignment deadlines so my brain is completely focused on library cataloguing, my placements and our group website project.

harry-potter

Harry Potter

The hype that was Harry Potter came out when I was in Sixth Form College and everyone, and I mean everyone, was obsessed. When one of the new books came out people were going crazy if someone spoiled it for them. I was a bookworm back then, but the fact that everyone was so obsessed – even the ‘popular’ in crowd, made me avoid it like the plague for a long time. Gradually around 2006/2007 I caught a few of the movies on TV, and then when I met my fiancΓ© I found out he was a Harry Potter fan and had the whole set of books. So when he moved to live with me, he bought them too and fell in love with them πŸ˜€

sg1Stargate SG-1

I remember watching the original Stargate movie with my dad when it was first released on video, and over the years I’d caught a few episodes of SG-1 and I have to be honest; I wasn’t that impressed. As I got older I heard massively good things about it, and after a quick chat with Chris we both decided it was something we’d been meaning to check out. We loved it πŸ˜€ We’re currently on the first season of Atlantis now. I’m not sure what put me off it when I was younger, maybe I just hadn’t matured to a stage where I could actually appreciate the show for what it was. I am, however, really glad we decided to watch it πŸ™‚

doctorwhoDoctor Who

I’d never seen any of the old Doctor Who (and still haven’t, I’m not a big fan of some things made in that era because the technology was crap, but that’s another story) and when the hype came about for the new one I was like… meh not really my thing. I then went to London Comic Con with an online friend who was a Whovian and so I accompanied her and her friend to John Barrowman’s talk. First of all, if you haven’t seen or met John Barrowman he is absolutely hilarious and down to earth. Seeing him, hearing about Torchwood (this was just before Torchwood started I believe) and Captain Jack… well of course I had to check it out. I started with Torchwood and then moved onto Doctor Who and been a Whovian ever since.

tvdThe Vampire Diaries

When I heard about the Vampire Diaries being made into a TV show I was so happy and also unhappy. I love LJSmiths books but out of all her novels, the Vampire Diaries was the one I really didn’t like. Way back when I was a part of the LJS fandom, everyone loooved TVD. So when it came out as a show I of course HAD to check it out, it was based on one of my favourite authors books, and I wasn’t all too sure if I liked it. In the end it turned out that this is one of the few times when the TV/Movie adaptation is much much better than the original novels. I’m really behind on it, simply because I’ve been on a crime binge for ages, but I still love the show and will catch up one day.

dragonVideo Games

Until 2004 I wasn’t a gamer. I’d tried playing games when I was a kid, namely Sonic on my mega drive, and had played on my cousin’s various consoles. Being mocked for ‘button smashing’ I had grown up thinking I could never play video games, and honestly, even until earlier this year when I completed Half Life 2 for myself, I believed that there were games out there I still would never be able to play. Now? The world is my oyster! I’m never going to be a console girl, I just can’t play that way. But PC games? I love em. You can check out my game library and gaming habits on raptr!
