My Goals for September

My Monthly Goals for September

September? Where did that come from? This year has just blown by and soon I’ll need to start thinking about things I want to achieve before the year ends, as well as planning blog posts for Christmas and reviewing the end of the year!

As I said in my August goals, I didn’t want to overdo it because I was just getting back into the swing of things and only had a few weeks left of the month to go. This time it’s the start of the month and I’m gradually piecing my life back together, enough to actually plan things again.

Personal

  • Scheduling – I’ve been slowly getting things back on track, however, I seem to have become a magnet for every cold and bug that I come across. I’ve been feeling pretty rotten and sorry for myself, and quite peeved about missing physio for two weeks. This week we have no class, so I’m glad for a week off to rest without any guilt. Generally my scheduling has improved, so this month is just about continuing that and getting more things in order.

  • Diet – I had aimed for September to be the start of getting back on my diet, and sadly, it’s going to take a bit longer. I need to feel better, and get more energy before I can start cooking and preparing meals properly again. It takes a lot of energy out of me and right now that doesn’t exist. So instead I just want to try to cut down on things in preparation for changing my diet again.

  • Reading – I cannot believe that I need to actually add this to my to do list. I’m still unsure about what exactly is going on with my reading habits right now. Comics? Yep, fine, devouring them. Actual books? For some reason I just cannot seem to find the motivation to pick up one. It’s not that I have nothing to read; I have plenty and even books I’m desperate to read! I think it may be related to CFS and my energy levels, and my brain is warning me away from doing too much. The problem with CFS is that it isn’t just about physical energy, it’s mental energy as well and my brain works at a pretty fast pace. Always thinking, planning, taking in knowledge and so I’m a pretty big and fast reader – until recently. It could be that it’s just some weird mental block, or I need to heed my body’s warning system and not worry about it for now. I want to try and see if I can figure out which it is this month, so maybe try reading for 5-10 minutes a day? Maybe that will kick start it, maybe it’s just the starting point that is the problem.

Dissertation

Yep, still ongoing, still need to get back to it. Not much else has changed on this front!

Projects

  • Blogging – I managed to get some stuff prepared in advance, however, more needs to be done to get everything working smoothly. That’s the plan this month because last month ended up being a bit of a rush thanks to me cramming two birthstone series into one month. I also have some product reviews to get up and really need to put up the Spoonie interview questions at last. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of ongoing behind the scenes adminy stuff.

  • WordPress Tags plugin – I really need to find a decent wordpress plugin to handle my tags. I had a look before and couldn’t decide what to try out, so this month I need to bite the bullet and see if any of them will do what I need.

  • Gallery Updates – I didn’t get much of this done at all so the same as last month; add new screenshots and get some admin stuff sorted out. I’ve already started pre-sorting the screenshots into folders so this shouldn’t be a big job.

  • Bullet Journal – This is the month that I get off my ass and get it sorted. Really, I mean it! My poor Bujo has been ignored for so long and I miss it, I hate that it’s being pushed to the back burner so often.

World of Warcraft

I got most of my list done last month; Death Knight campaign and mount completed, and obtained all the Trial of Style sets from the event.

  • Keep up with new Argus content.
  • Level Warlock & complete order hall campaign.
  • Try for Mage Hidden Artifact skin
  • Collect Inscription Recipes from Raids & Dungeons
  • Finish Tailoring quests.
  • Catch up on skinning quests on Death Knight.

Over to you…

So how is your September looking? Is it a busy time for you or a quieter one? Anything fun planned? Let me know! If you have your own monthly goals post please leave me a link to it 🙂

My Goals for August

Monthly Goals - August

Last time I got one of these done was June and then about a week later I had the flu. I’m now back on the blogging bandwagon and ready to get organised! Yeah, it’s half way through August already but I needed to do this, needed to put things into perspective and work out where I want to go this month. I’ve just started a new physio course called ‘Moving into Balance’ which essentially is an hour of theory/planning and then 30 mins of exercise. The aim is to help me find a baseline and start working to avoid boom and bust days, i.e. a good day followed by a bad day, and to stabilise my energy levels. One thing we’ve been asked to do is mindfully plan where we want our days to go, so I’m going to use this monthly post as a larger way to keep myself on track.

Personal

At the moment I’m taking it easy with some things, such as my diet, because flu majorly screwed a lot of stuff up. Last week was also hard due to appointments and other things going on, so I’ve had to recover a bit from that too. This week there’s just my physio so it’s get back on track time with planning, projects, and schedules. Hopefully by the start of September I’ll be back on track!

Dissertation

I am currently sitting at half way through my 20k word limit for my first rough draft. I think I have something like 6 months or something before the next exam board (as long as my continuation of studies is accepted), aka my new deadline, but I want it done before that. My physio’s throwing me through a loop at the moment, so taking my time and building my strength up to get back into writing again.

Projects

  • Blogging – Top of my list is to get back to blogging and schedule posts a month or more in advance! I already started by prepping my monthly goals posts and making up transmog sets for several weeks.

  • Directory Updates – Thanks to Photobucket’s ridiculous changes all my buttons for my directories have been messed up and it coincided of course with the flu. So I’m still playing catch up and several are a mess. Not to mention way overdue to a link check.

  • Gallery Updates – I officially finished the gallery move, now I just need to add my latest screenshots and do some admin stuff.

  • Bullet Journal – I want to use my bullet journal to track my energy levels, so I need to implement that and catch up with some other bits.

World of Warcraft

I don’t want to overdo things since there is only a few weeks left of August so just a few things;

  • Finish Death Knight Artifact Quest
  • Finish Death Knight Campaign
  • Complete Death Knight Mount Questline
  • Try for Mage Hidden Artifact skin
  • Obtain Trial of Style Sets
  • Collect Inscription Recipes from Raids & Dungeons

My Goals for March

Monthly Goals: March 2017

It’s been a few months since I did one of these. January was just a crazy mess and February was all about the chest infection. Time to get back on track!

Blogging

  • I have blog ideas coming out of my ears right now. Seriously, so many ideas so hopefully this month will see an increase in content!
  • Commenting; yep, still an ongoing issue for me and I’m slowly getting there. People have actually had comments left by me recently *gasp*
  • Work on Blog Promo Links List.
  • Work on SEO.
  • Pinterest images for entries.
  • Media Kit? Might be able to squeeze this in this month.

Bullet Journal

I started a bullet journal this year to coincide with my 2017 Word of the Year Treasure (read more here).  February was supposed to be my first month of trackers and as you can imagine, the chest infection threw that out the window. That means March is the first time tracking things, so I need to keep up to date with it and stick to it.

Challenges

I’ve just launched The Screenshot Challenge and I’m also taking part in Magical March hosted by Kayla. I’ll be posting a selfie every day and screenshots every Sunday on my instagram.

Gaming

Since December I’ve not been playing WoW. With everything that happened in December I just haven’t felt like being social and WoW is my social game. So I went back to Guild Wars 2 and Chris joined me, so we’ve been playing through that together; first time for him. I’m playing it pretty leisurely so I don’t have any specific goals, I’m enjoying just floating by!

I do want to try and start the Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC’s this month though. I was focused on GW2 and have been busy, so hoping to fit it in somewhere.

Reading

I have been in a slump since the start of the year. I’ve gotten through some comics, and that is about it. I still haven’t finished a book I started in November, not because there is anything wrong with the book, I just have no motivation to read. It could be because I’ve been so stressed and ill, or I’ve just not had enough energy to spare. I hope to change it this month and get back on track!

Convention Preparation

Last year I won 6 tickets to the Sci Fi and Fantasy Warriors weekender, a weekend of geekyness and meeting guests! There’s some great guests there including Nicholas Brendon from Buffy, Chris Barrie from Red Dwarf and Gareth David Lloyd from Torchwood. There’s also a masquerade ball, something I have been wanting to go to for so long! It’s at the end of the month so I need to get a bunch of stuff prepared:

  • Discuss and plan schedule for the weekend.
  • Test hair and make up.
  • Look up DIY masques and make ours.
  • Create blog business cards and get them shipped.
  • Prepare/collect items for signings.
  • Packing list.
  • Food/Meal planning.

Dissertation

My dissertation had to go on the back burner a bit due to my recent illness, so this month I really need to crack on with it. I’ve had to re-evaluate the way I’m approaching my research question so it is something more plausible. I’m currently looking at a possible diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and one important aspect of living with the condition is learning to pace myself. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have made some good head way with this!

Have you got any goals for March? Let me know!

5 Geeky Goals for 2017 [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - 2017 goals

I’m still playing catch up after the holidays so this is a few days late! As I’m going to be doing two other goal related posts, one for the new year and one for January, I decided to use this prompt to look at specifically fandom and nerdy related things I want to do in 2017.

Video Games

While World of Warcraft is usually my primary game, I do have a variety of games sitting around waiting for me to play. Chris and I often get stuff cheap in steam sales or Humble Bundles, as well as snatching up free games from Origin and Uplay. Last year I did terribly at finishing or even starting these games so 2017 I’m planning to finish 6 games. That’s 1 every 2 months roughly. I’m also planning to do more youtube stuff, for WoW and possibly other games!

Reading

I use Goodreads to track my reading and challenge myself to read so many every year. It keeps going up each year, with last year’s challenge being revised three times. I failed the third time, which is this years target of 300. I want to try to focus on finishing old series before I start new ones so I’ll be grabbing stuff from my local libraries and book mooch to finish those up (or get up to date). I also want to make my way through my massive amount of kindle books I’ve picked up for free from indie authors, so I’m going to be making ‘Book Bingo cards’ for some months. Here’s my January one!

Films

I’ve decided on a few film related goals for 2017, starting with watching every film we own. I’ve seen most of them, however, some I’ve slacked on and some were Chris’ before we got together and after almost 10 years together I still haven’t watched them. I also recall a conversation at uni last year with my classmates discussing ‘classic’ films, like A Clockwork Orange, and they were quite appalled at how many I’ve not seen. So I’m planning to remedy that! My idea of classic is probably not the same as everyone’s, and while there will be some old films from the 60’s and 70’s, I probably won’t be going much earlier. On top of these two goals, I want to catch up on films of some of my favourite actors. Some of them are no longer with us (Carrie Fisher, Robin Williams), while others (Harrison Ford) I’ve seen a lot of, but there’s still some I’ve not watched. Those are the few I can think of and will be my starting place for now!

Bullet Journal

I messed around with a notebook type bullet journal last year and found that having a nice bullet journal with a to do list for each week just doesn’t work for me. Incorporating the two just got messy and meant that I couldn’t keep things neat. So instead, that notebook is for notes and my weekly planner. I’ve bought a new, proper, dotted journal to keep an actual bullet journal for 2017.

Online Projects

2016 was a woefully fulfilling year for online projects, with my focusing on my Msc and my blog. I don’t have any major plans for new layouts for 2017, unless inspiration strikes, but I would like to change a few things around. Namely, my personal site photo gallery which doesn’t work and hasn’t for aggges. I want to move it to another script, and do the same with my screenshot and scan gallery. Speaking of scans; I have loads that need editing and made into png and brush packs for deviantArt. I’ve been slacking and would like to try to get into one a month. I have also been contemplating getting back into the fanlistings world for a while now. I left due to drama, but I’ve changed and I don’t think I’m going to take everything so seriously any more. I don’t intent to go crazy, just start out small and go from there.

Finally, I’ve been working on a big project that will either work really well or just collapse on itself. I started work on it a few years ago and it’s slowly bugging me that it’s still in limbo. I want to get it launched this year!

What do you think? Anything strike your fancy? I’ll be posting updates throughout the year so stay tuned 🙂

November Goals Recap

Monthly Goals November 2016

The end of the month is nigh and it’s time to look back over my monthly goals and see how I did!

Blogging

I feel quite content with how my blogging went this month, I upped my game but there’s still room for improvement. I need to get scheduling sorted for one, and I am so behind on commenting. So those will be priorities next month.

Youtube

I failed miserably. The new diet had me all over the place and proved to have some unseen difficulties (more below) so I’ve had a lot less time and energy than I expected.

World of Warcraft

Let’s see…

  • Finish my Demon Hunter campaign.
  • Finish my main’s profession levelling – Fishing is now maxed. It’s proving a lot harder to max everything else, so I think this is going to be a goal for several months
  • Complete a full set of Illusion Books (enchanting) for me and Chris.
  • Finish off Broken Isles achievements for killing rares. (Apparently I’d actually already done this :P)
  • Start levelling my druid with Chris – She should be 110 in the next few days!
  • Start levelling my mage solo – Haven’t even started her 🙁
  • Do the dungeon profession quests on my Demon Hunter and Monk – Demon hunter done (and new ones found), but my monk I slacked on big time. I think I’m just going to leave her for now and concentrate on other characters as she is my bank character.

New Desk Set Up

It’s done and mostly set up 😀 I still need to move my make up from the bathroom into the new desk because I can’t do my make up in the bathroom. This is because I’m really short sighted (like -20 -20 seriously) and our mirror is above the sink… I need a mirror right in front of my face. So sitting down at my new desk with everything nearby works so much better for me.

I do have some pictures though!

New Diet

So the new diet has been tricky, and not due to the food. The food prep, especially for breakfast has been difficult for me when my body has decided it doesn’t want to behave. I’ve gotten into a routine, been trying new recipes and finding ones I really enjoy. I’ve also lost 9-10lbs already which seems unreal. I’ve been eating less, been much less hungry between meals and have noticed other good side effects too. My skin is much clearer, other health stuff seems better too.

However, I’ve been really nauseous a lot and I don’t think it’s due to the diet, like I said, I’m not feeling hungry so no feeling light headed etc. I think it’s a part of whatever weird random gland hurting illness that I’ve now had for over a year. My glands have also been getting worse, and sore more often :-/

Work on a Project

Nada, zilch. I was pretty sure that would be the case.

There may also be…

I totally failed on reviews and tutorials, but did get some Bioshock Infinite in!

So that was my month; how did yours go? Did you meet your goals? You may have noticed that I’m not beating myself up for missing stuff and that is important. Remember that when looking back at your own goals and lists 🙂

December goals coming soon!
