May the 4th be with you! Happy Star Wars day to all my fellow Star Wars geeks! It seemed fitting that the first in the new Geek of the High Street series was dedicated to this day. Sadly though, I don’t have much to bring you. There is a distinct lack of anything Star Wars in most British high street stores directed at women. At best we get a few smatterings as seen in this post and the pinterest board, or unisex items. While menswear and kidswear (again primarily boys) are filled to the brim! Even my go to Sports Direct let me down this time. Maybe I’ve just timed it badly and it’s in between stock changes (I hope!) and not a sign of things to come.
I’m going to highlight a few of my favourite things, and then there is the pinterest board for you to browse at your leisure. The Star Wars board featured below is just one section of the bigger Geek of the High Street board so don’t forget to check out the whole board and follow it for your geeky fix!
First up is this gorgeous denim jacket from Gap. The Star Wars™ Icon denim jacket is originally priced at £69.95 but is currently down to £44.99 and is perfect for the coming summer months!
Another item that caught my eye in Gap’s fab Star Wars Icon series is these quirky jogging bottoms that allow you to show your rebel pride while you work out or relax at home. There’s a matching top and even better? It’s also on sale, down from £44.95 to £21.99!
This Stormstrooper t-shirt has been given a bohemian make-over and would look great under your new denim jacket 😉 Find it in the sale at Sports Direct for £7.50.
This may look like just an ordinary boot, however, it’s actually part of an awesome collaboration between Clarks and Star Wars. The Rey, women’s Nature Collection comes in three colours; Grey, Black and Sand (featured here). Each comes in a different colours that reflect the character and her outfits, and feature an exclusive Rey heel detail. They’re priced quite high at £95.00, but Clarks has a good reputation so these are worth the investment.
I am a sucker for cute Droid Star Wars phone cases (I’m currently rocking an R2-D2 one myself!) and this BB-8 iPhone 7 case from TK Maxx is super cute and a bargain at £7.99!
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right? For some people yes, for others diamonds just aren’t that exciting. Add in the fact that they are super expensive, and the dupe diamantés can sometimes look too fake, and styling for April’s birthstone Diamond is no easy task. As a transparent gemstone selecting colours was tricky, and I didn’t want to end up with a board full of greys and white. So for this colour scheme I took some inspiration from the rarer pink diamonds (did you know diamonds actually come in a wide range of colours?) and created a palette of white, silver, greys, hushed pink and nude tones.
The Birthstone series will be exploring the world of birth stones and creating a pinterest mood board filled with style ideas related to that month’s birthstone and related colours. There will be women’s fashion, jewellery, make up, accessories, colour palettes and some home decor items thrown in too. This series will be posted on the third Saturday of every month.
What do you think; is diamond a birthstone you think you could style? Were you a fan of diamonds before this post, or like me, did you find them a bit bland?
I hope you’ve found something you like in this post, and if not there’s plenty more on the pinterest board! I’ll be adding a few more things to the board from time to time so don’t forget to follow it. If you have something you think I should add, especially if it’s something you’ve created let me know!
This week I’m introducing a new monthly edition of Sharing Saturday – The Birthstone Series! This series will be exploring the world of birth stones and creating a pinterest mood board filled with style ideas related to that month’s birthstone and related colours. There will be women’s fashion, jewellery, make up, accessories, colour palettes and some home decor items thrown in too. This series will be posted on the third Saturday of every month.
To start off the series I’ve been looking at March’s birthstone. I based this board around the birthstone aquamarine and the colours aqua, teal and turquoise. You can view the full board below, and keep reading to see my best picks for how to style the birthstone aquamarine.
It would be nice to always be able to deck yourself out in top class gemstones, however, that isn’t always the case. That doesn’t mean you can’t embrace your aquamarine style! Check out these dupes for aquamarine:
Whether your birthstone is Aquamarine, or you just love the stone or the colours. I hope you’ve found something you like in this post, and if not there’s plenty more on the pinterest board! I’ll be adding a few more things to the board from time to time so don’t forget to follow it. If you have something you think I should add, especially if it’s something you’ve created let me know!
Ok, so technically it’s Sunday (and quite late on a Sunday at that). This week has been tough, and I had to skip last weeks SS so I refused to skip a second one.
Geek on the High Street is an idea I had last year and considered creating a blog around, instead it will make a regular appearance as a Sharing Saturday. I had hoped to go out and actually browse shops, but sadly health hasn’t allowed for that so I’ve had to look online. The aim of Geek on the High Street is to find and highlight geeky products that can be found in normal high street stores. I’ll be mainly focusing on women’s fashion since mostly women read my blog, but if anyone is interested in a male version please let me know in the comments!
New look had a few things, but primarily there were lots and lots of unicorns. Either unicorns are ‘in’ at the moment or someone at New Look reaaallly likes them. Here’s a few of my faves along with some Minnie and Snoopy tops I found. All of these can be found on the New Look website.
H & M
H & M had a few band t-shirts as well as these cute batman PJs, Minion socks, Micky PJ bottoms and Micky top.
I’m not a massive Top Shop fan, I honestly avoid it like the plague because I’ve always found its products are the total opposite of geekyness. However, it turned out to be a virtual gold mine of geeky stuff. There’s a tonne more Micky and Minnie stuff on there (the mouses are very in right now it seems) but I absolutely love the troll top 😀
As you can see the Disney Mouses trend continues in Uniqlo, although they did have several other Disney t-shirts such as the Alice and Wonderland and Snow White tops featured here. There were also a couple of Hello Kitty ones as well, so this is definitely one to watch to see what else they come up with
And the rest…
.Then there were a few notable items from these shops. Blondie T-shirt from Miss Selfridge, Minnie socks from Next (they had a few other cute Disney and animation pairs too!) and David Bowie jumper from River Island.
I hope you enjoyed this first edition of Geek on the High Street 🙂 Let me know what you think of these products in the comments!
