6 Incredible Make-Up Artists to Follow!

6 incredible make-up artists to follow

Make up is one of my passions, and I love when people combine it with art and design. There are some incredibly talented artists out there and I wanted to share with you a few of my favourites for this week’s Sharing Saturday!

Please note: All images belong to the artists mentioned in this post. If you like their work please take the time to visit them and follow them on social media!

Tal Peleg

Deviant Art  |  Instagram  |  FacebookTwitter

Tal Peleg makes incredible scenes using eyes and eye shadows, and these are just a few examples. You really do need to view her entire gallery to see the breadth of her skill. I love how varied her designs are, and how quirky too. There’s plenty of Disney, some art inspired like the Dali eye featured here, and some childhood favourites too.

Svenja Jödicke

Deviant Art  |  Etsy

Svenja is an artist that uses her eyes and make-up as a canvas, and what I really love about her work is the use of items as well as paint and make-up. This adds a 3D element, and also means that some of her work is more about symbolism and colours. For example, the first design featured here is her interpretation of The Little Mermaid, as part of her Disney series. Her butterfly and insect series’ are awe-inspiring and if you’re ok with seeing insects then they are worth a browse.

Katie Alves

Website  |  Deviant Art  |  Instagram  |  FacebookTwitter  |  Youtube  | Tumblr

Katie is a pretty well known face on the web and you’ve quite possibly seen her work before. She takes make-up art to the next level, using a variety of different products and skills to create amazing looks. She did a fantastic series called 31 days of Halloween and included tutorials on her youtube channels for the looks she created. She has covered a variety of themes, and plays around with glow in the dark paint to create some stunning effects.

Ithinity Beauty

Website  |  Google +  |  Instagram  |  FacebookTwitter

Ithi at Ithinity Beauty has an extraordinary talent for painting nails freehand, and these are just a few of her incredible designs. She posts new ones every couple of days and they range from freehand, to swatches and using different nail art products. When I’m not drooling over her beautiful designs, I love reading her blog and learning about the new products she’s tried out. She often takes part in themes and challenges which has resulted in some fantastic ideas and creations.

Makeup For Glasses

Website  |  Instagram  |  YouTube  |  Twitter

Samaries focuses on creating beautiful eye make-up designs for glasses wearers. As one herself she knows the challenges ladies with glasses face and lists herself as someone who is “breaking the rules when it comes to wearing makeup and glasses”. She offers tips and product reviews, as well as detailing the products she uses to obtain her stunning eye make-up. While Samaries’ work is not as fantastical as the other artists featured in this blog post, I wanted to include her because of how important it is for glasses wearers to have someone like her doing this. While glasses themselves have become fashionable in recent years, not many people actually experience the struggles of creating make-up looks with bad eye sight or that stand out behind glasses.

Eva Senín Pernas

Deviant Art  |  Tumblr  |  FacebookTwitter

Eva’s work includes full face make-up designs, as well as focusing on individual areas like her crime scene lips featured in the first image. I love the versitility of her work, and how she includes full special effects like her Kerrigan look (second photo) as well as creating themed pieces. There’s a vibrance and ingenuity to her work that really draws you in.

Are you familar with any of these artists? Any new or different ones to recommend? Are you a make up artist? Let me know in the comments and don’t be share to drop me a link to your work! <3

Spring 2017 Beauty Products I want to Try

spring beauty products 2017

As someone who loves trying new beauty products I always keep one eye on the new products being rolled out for the season. Usually there’s a few I’m curious about, and the rest look good but don’t quite catch my fancy. Spring 2017 is doing the total opposite and I’ve had so many great products catch my attention that it’s time to compile a list! ((All images are credited to the product page linked for each item.))

Rimmel

Rimmel - Easy Does It Lipstick

There’s not much information about Rimmel’s new products for Spring 2017 which makes me wonder if there’s an announcement coming up later. However, they have launched their new lipstick ‘The Only 1‘ which claims to be “A no compromise ALL IN ONE lipstick Long-lasting colour, comfort, moisture and wear”. I’ve been a fan of Rimmel and their lipsticks for a long time now so I’m really curious to see what this new incarnation is like and see if it does what it claims to do.

Benefit

Benefit is one of those brands I’ve been eyeing up for a while and not quite managed to get my hands on just yet. They’re a bit on the pricey side for me currently, but I have to say I am a wee bit fascinated by a few of their new products. Their ‘They’re Real’ collection has two products that I’m really wanting to try:

Benefit - They're Real Double the Lip Hero

Double the lip is a 2-in-1 lipstick and lipliner and the reviews have been really positive so far. I love lippies, but lip liners? A whole different ball game for me. Maybe it’s the struggle to have a steady hand for the application or the lack of decent eyesight to be able to actually see where I’m applying it. Or both. This lipstick takes both those issues a way and gives you a liner and lipstick look in one application, and the shades look gorgeous too!

Likewise, Benefit have gone for the 2-in-1 approach for the Duo Benefit - They're Real Duo EyeshadowEyeshadow Blender. It’s a two shade eyeshadow which has a darker shade at the bottom and a lighter at the top, so when you swipe along with the brush you get a liner and shadow effect. Personally, I live for blending different eyeshadows for a unique look, but I can totally see this being a life saver for quick application. I spend more time on my eyes than I do else where when getting ready to go out, and being able to just go swish, done! in one application sounds useful. My only complaint? The lack of colour variety. They are all very nude, and I can see this looking amazing in some more vibrant shades like purple, blue and green.

MAC

MAC - Colour Rocker Lipstick

Another brand I have looked at from afar, I have one product and it’s a lipstick that I love. So naturally I’m drawn to the rest of their lippies now. I love purple, so when I spotted their new Colour Rocker lipsticks I was instantly drawn to their two purple shades; Flatter me Fierce (a blue lavender matte – pictured here) and Evening Buzz (a grey lavender matte). There’s loads of bright alternative shades including some magical greens, blues and aquas. I might not wear it all the time, but I damn well need at least one of these in my collection!

Essence

One of my favourite places to shop for decent products at low prices is Wilko, and one of the beauty brands they stock is Essence. I recently grabbed a bunch of products from the Essence range and have been really happy with them. So I had to check out their new Spring Collection coming at the end of March 2017.

Essence - Out of Space Stories Nail Polish

One of the things I tried out was a bunch of their nail care range, and so I’m really excited about their nail products coming out. Look at this gorgeous space shade which is just one of their 7 new shades in the out of space stories nail polish collection.

Essence - Colour Correcting Liquid

After trying out Technic’s colour correction palette (as seen in my favourite 2016 beauty products), I’ve been keeping an eye out for other products like this. Essence’s high quality and low price means that their new colour concealer liquid instantly popped up on my radar.

L’Oreal

As someone who suffers from various issues with my skin (acne, scarring, blackheads, dermatillomania ), L’Oreal’s new Infallible Total Cover range didn’t just appear on my radar, it lit it up like a Christmas Tree. The fact that they included an acne sufferer in their advertising makes me feel confident that a brand has actually considered the issues faced by acne sufferers.  Not just said ‘it covers, here you go’. I’ve honestly never seen a skin range that has made me want to buy the whole thing ASAP. There’s a skin primer, a foundation and a colour correction palette; everything you need if you suffer from skin issues like mine.

loreal total cover foundation

Finding a foundation that actually covers properly when you have uneven skin is an ongoing problem for me. I’m gradually getting closer to perfect skin, but honestly it depends on the condition of my skin on the day. If I’ve had a bad dermatillomania flare up then my skin is far from smooth no matter how many products I use. So I am really curious to see if the Total Cover foundation is the one I’ve been waiting for, one that smooths and covers and doesn’t leave me looking like I have 20 layers on my face.

loreal total cover concealer palette

Like I said; I lover correction palettes. So grabbing the one in this range is a no brainer for me. I like that it has both colour correctors and concealer shades so you can get the ideal finish from the one palette.

Barry M

I have fond memories of being a teenager standing in front of Barry M displays and staring in awe at the range of colours. I still love Barry M so of course they made this list.

Barry M - Frosted Cupcakes Nail Polish

I’ve always been attracted to Barry M’s nail polishes because they’re high quality and have so many more shades than most brands. I’m a massive fan of their effect/shimmery polishes as they always come out looking great even if you’re not perfect when applying. So when they came out with their new Frosted Cupcake range in such cute shades I was immediately interested!

Barry M - Coconut Infusion

Coconut has become a massive trend in the world of beauty, and while I’ve jumped on board with some of it, I don’t always seek it out. However, it’s the combination of healthy coconut, shades and Barry M’s quality that has been desperate to try their Coconut Infused nail polishes. These have been out for a while, and there’s new shades out for Spring.

Barry M - Matte Me Lips

Lastly, they’ve just launched their own version of lip kits with their new matte lip range Matte Me Up. The lip kits are limited edition from Superdrug and Boots only, however, the individual matte lips are here to stay. Again, it’s knowing that I’m getting a quality product that attracts me to this product, as well as the affordable price!

Essie

As a colour and nail polish addict, Essie’s polishes have a tendency to make me drool. I’ve been following them on instagram and I’m especially in love with some of their new 2017 ranges:

Essie - treat love & colour

I LOVE the idea of being able to nurture my nails with colour rather than having to have multiple layers of different products. Essie’s Treat Love and Colour range currently comes in three sheer shades, and naturally, I’m obsessing over this pretty lavender shade.

Nudes

I keep seeing these on their instagram and love how they turn out. The Ballet Nudes collection comes in pale and nude shades which look so pretty and chic.

The Body Shop

Body Shop - Almond Milk & Honey

Another firm favourite of mine is The Body Shop and I’ve been using their products since my teens. I keep an eye out for their new collections and this year they’ve launched their Almond, Milk and Honey range. It’s designed for sensitive and dry skin and is aimed at your whole body not just your face (I suffer from very dry skin on my body) and I love these two ingredients. The shower gel is something I’m seriously wanting to try out, as is exfoliating cream scrub. What I like about it is that it comes in a handy pack (see featured picture) which means you can try out a bunch of the products before buying a full sized version.

What do you think of my list? Are any of these already on your spring wish lists, or have I just given you a serious craving for something? 😉 Let me know in the comments!

My Goals for December

Monthly Goals December 2016

Novembers goals really helped me keep myself on a better schedule so I’m hoping this will do the same for December too!

Commenting

I managed to squeeze some comments in this month and I need to keep it up now that my blog scheduling is under control again.

Dissertation Prep

January marks the official  start of my dissertation after having the last four months off to rest and heal. I want to get my feet wet again and get some background research done before January comes around.

World of Warcraft

  • Finish my Druid class campaign.
  • Start levelling my Mage.
  • Finish Suramar quests on my Demon Hunter.
  • Get my Shadow and Holy artifacts on my priest (been delaying it as I need to record them).
  • Work on the two toy achievements: Hot Swapper and The Shortest Distance

Desk: Operation Make Up Storage

The next step of my desk set up is to move my make up from the bathroom and into my new desk. I’m still trying to decide whether it’s better to do that before Christmas, or afterwards. I’ve also got to work out how/where everything is going to go!

Product Reviews

Christmas means new stuff to review, so I want to play catch up and try to squeeze two in this month.

Make Up & Nail Art Tests

We’re going out for Christmas dinner so it’s the perfect excuse to dress up and go all out with make up and nail art. I want to test some new products I got for my birthday and try out some new nail art ideas. I’ll be posting them up on instagram and hopefully get some tutorials and blog posts out of it too!

January Reading Bingo

I first saw this over at Natalie’s Blog and as I told her, I need to do this! I have so much I want to read, especially indie/self published free books I’ve picked up and I have no idea where to start. So I want to create a bingo card, a chart of themes and keywords for picking from my collection books for January.

Any suggestions for what I could have on it? Let me know in the comments?

How is your December shaping up? Do you take it easier because of the holidays or is your schedule even more hectic?

A Guide to Online Advent Calendar Competitions

Sharing Saturday: Online advent calendars

Yep, another advent calendar sharing saturday. The last one I promise and probably the most exciting one because I’m introducing you into the world of online advent calendar competitions – which are free to enter! I enter them every year and for the past couple of years have won several prizes. They’re great fun, a tad bit addictive and easy to take part in. There’s so many that I’m not going to list them, I’m just going to explain the types of competitions and then give you some sites where fabulous people have listed all the advent competitions they find.

Type of Advent Competitions

Instant Wins

Instant wins are basically competitions which involve clicking an advent window, bauble or bingo ticket and instantly winning a prize. Expect a lot of ‘sorry you have not won this time….’ messages, but wins do happen! Last year I won my Star Wars BB-8 Sphero droid from one of these 😀 I highly recommend Tombola’s advent calendar as you always win something on it.

Fill out a Form

Like instant wins, you have to click on the advent number for the day and instead of getting an instant notification you have to fill in your details. Sometimes you’ll need to answer a question, or count how many santa hats are on a page. A winner is the selected and notified at a later date. If you don’t want your email spammed I suggest making a new one just for competitions.

Treasure Hunts

Treasure Hunts require you to hunt around for an item, usually something christmassy like a santa hat, gift or candy cane. Sometimes these will be static, i.e. on a certain page/product, while others will be random. One that has a random chance is Top Cash Back which has a daily clue for a guaranteed humming bird (the treasure you need to find) and can randomly pop up on other pages as you browse the site.

Social Media

Social media has made it so much easier to join in competitions, especially at advent time. These take place on facebook, twitter and instagram, and I’ve seen a few using snapchat as well this year. You have to like/follow the account/page and then follow the instructions. These usually involve sharing/retweeting, answering a question or tagging friends. It’s good because you can see how many people are entering, but don’t be put off by this! I’ve had some success with social media competitions and last year also had a company send me a wee little gift in response to something I said. There are real people running these competitions so every so often surprises can happen.

Bloggers

Several bloggers are posting advent calendar competitions as well, and they tend to use rafflecopter or gleam which is a little widget that asks you to do things. These include commenting, following social media accounts, sharing/retweeting etc. Some of my favourite ones to watch are Tanned Beauty Addict and Thou Shall Not Covet who have amazing prizes up for grabs!

Pass the Parcel

One of the most popular competitions is Marks and Spencers Pass the Parcel competition, in which you use the application on Facebook and pass parcels to friends and family – they then pass them back to you. The last few years the M&S one has become insanely popular and closes within days. It is worth it if you can play it though! Another one we’ve won on in the past few years 🙂 Other companies, such as Joules, have started doing their own pass the parcel and I’m sure some others will pop up too.

Lists of Competitions

So, now you’ve read about them… are you ready to see what’s out there?!  Here are my favourite sites for finding advent competitions. You’re also welcome to follow me on twitter as I will be retweeting any I enter too!

Keep in mind – Some competitions have started already, while others that last for 12 days before christmas will open at a later date. So it’s worth while checking back at these sites for new competitions!

30 Beauty Advent Calendars for 2016

Sharing Saturday: Alternate Advent Calendars - Beauty

I love advent calendars, however, opening little doors just for a tiny bit of chocolate isn’t as appealing as it once was. I’ve been doing online advent calendars (I’ll introduce you to some at the beginning of December when they open!) for several years now, and last year I came across beauty advent calendars! This year I kept an eye out, found several different beauty ones as well as some other alternative advent calendars.
