Anyone who’s followed me on instagram for a while will know that I love photo challenges, unfortunately, they’re not something I always have time for 🙁 That doesn’t mean I can’t live vicariously through you guys though! 😉 So this week for Sharing Saturday I’m sharing 5 challenges people have put together for the month of September! Don’t be put off by it being the 9th day already, there’s nothing stopping you from jumping in now or catching up by back posting! Most of these sites/accounts have one each month so if September’s too busy or you want to start from the beginning just follow their accounts and hang on until October for a new challenge 🙂
The great thing about challenges is that you can do them at any time; while it’s fun to do them alongside other people, you can take inspiration from old challenges too! Head over to my pinterest board to find a bunch of old ones that I’ve stockpiled! ((Banner image from Public Domain Images.))
Over to You!
Do you like photo challenges? How about other challenges such as reading challenges or journal/planner ones?
Happy St Patrick’s day everyone! Unsurprisingly this weeks prompt is a little green 😉 For my green photo challenge I decided to stick to geeky/fandom related items so here’s 5 photos of geeky stuff I own.
I’ve read all of these but one (can you guess which? 😉 ) and recommend them all. Have you read any of these?
My Naughty Nessie plushie alongside my 1980s Good Luck Bear Care Bear plushie and finally my Tatty Teddy frog costume plushie.
A selection of green movie DVDs (and one bluray) from our movie collection featuring some comic book films (Suicide Squad, Green Lantern and Hulk), and some animated and childhood loves (Space Jam, Shrek Forever After, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, and the Princess the Frog).
I then raided our TV Boxset collection to serve up this mish-mash of genres featuring Red Dward, House, Lost and Buffy.
Despite having video games for PC and three different consoles, there were only these two that fit the green criteria. Have you played them?
I hope you enjoyed this quick peek into my geeky and fandom items 🙂
A while back I had the idea of doing an instagram challenge for video games. That idea then evolved into this; the Screenshot Challenge. The idea of this challenge is to join in the weekly twitter and instagram tag #screenshotsunday and making things a bit more interesting by having a weekly prompt. Starting from March 2017 I’ll be posting a set of prompts/challenges for each sunday. They will be purposefully open or vague so you can interpret them as you wish. There are only two rules; follow the prompt and post on a sunday (as much as you can, if you’re a bit late don’t worry – it’s the taking part that counts 🙂 ).
How you join in is totally up to you! You can post on any social media with just an image, using the hashtags #justgeekingbysc and #screenshotsunday. Or you can post a blog entry with more details and screenshots. It is entirely up to you! You can choose to stick to one game, or change each week. It can be on any format, and from any time – you can take screenshots that day if you wish or use one taken previously.
Posting to Instagram
I wanted to add a little bit about posting screenshots to instagram. You could, technically, just take a photo of your screen using your phone. What I find works better is using a site like Later.com which allows you to upload images from your PC and send it to an app on your phone. This then downloads the image on your phone and lets you open it in instagram. If you know of any other apps or websites that do the same thing please let me know and I’ll add them here.
Another method suggested by Kathy is to post the screenshot to twitter first, then save it from twitter to your device. You can then pop it onto instagram and voilà!
I will be taking part on instagram @JustGeekingBy so feel free to follow me and join in! I can’t wait to see what you guys have to share 🙂
I was invited to take part in a selfie a day challenge by Kayla of Epicfied for March and decided to give it a go. Selfies, or any photos of myself really, have become a very sore subject for me in recent years. Weight gain and suffering from Dermatillomania (compulsive sick picking) has made me very self conscious. The problem is that both become a vicious circle which combined with chronicle illness and depression just keeps on going and going. I also had some reservations about filling my instagram with my face every day, and how people wouldn’t want to see my ugly mug all the time. Then I realised that these were the voices of my high school bullies, whispers of the past and people long gone from my life. ((Texture credits for the featured image are from Missesglass and Dioma. Photo of myself has been edited using Painnt.))
As Kayla explains in her blog post about Magical March, this is about self confidence and I’m planning to use this challenge as a way to help me keep my Dermatillomania in check. If I know I have to take a photo and share it with the world, then hopefully it will curb the urge a bit. If it doesn’t, then I am still learning and gaining self confidence even with my problems.
I am going into this solo, but would love to have someone join me. So if you’re reading this and up for it then please let me know!
