Spring 2017 Beauty Products I want to Try

spring beauty products 2017

As someone who loves trying new beauty products I always keep one eye on the new products being rolled out for the season. Usually there’s a few I’m curious about, and the rest look good but don’t quite catch my fancy. Spring 2017 is doing the total opposite and I’ve had so many great products catch my attention that it’s time to compile a list! ((All images are credited to the product page linked for each item.))

Rimmel

Rimmel - Easy Does It Lipstick

There’s not much information about Rimmel’s new products for Spring 2017 which makes me wonder if there’s an announcement coming up later. However, they have launched their new lipstick ‘The Only 1‘ which claims to be “A no compromise ALL IN ONE lipstick Long-lasting colour, comfort, moisture and wear”. I’ve been a fan of Rimmel and their lipsticks for a long time now so I’m really curious to see what this new incarnation is like and see if it does what it claims to do.

Benefit

Benefit is one of those brands I’ve been eyeing up for a while and not quite managed to get my hands on just yet. They’re a bit on the pricey side for me currently, but I have to say I am a wee bit fascinated by a few of their new products. Their ‘They’re Real’ collection has two products that I’m really wanting to try:

Benefit - They're Real Double the Lip Hero

Double the lip is a 2-in-1 lipstick and lipliner and the reviews have been really positive so far. I love lippies, but lip liners? A whole different ball game for me. Maybe it’s the struggle to have a steady hand for the application or the lack of decent eyesight to be able to actually see where I’m applying it. Or both. This lipstick takes both those issues a way and gives you a liner and lipstick look in one application, and the shades look gorgeous too!

Likewise, Benefit have gone for the 2-in-1 approach for the Duo Benefit - They're Real Duo EyeshadowEyeshadow Blender. It’s a two shade eyeshadow which has a darker shade at the bottom and a lighter at the top, so when you swipe along with the brush you get a liner and shadow effect. Personally, I live for blending different eyeshadows for a unique look, but I can totally see this being a life saver for quick application. I spend more time on my eyes than I do else where when getting ready to go out, and being able to just go swish, done! in one application sounds useful. My only complaint? The lack of colour variety. They are all very nude, and I can see this looking amazing in some more vibrant shades like purple, blue and green.

MAC

MAC - Colour Rocker Lipstick

Another brand I have looked at from afar, I have one product and it’s a lipstick that I love. So naturally I’m drawn to the rest of their lippies now. I love purple, so when I spotted their new Colour Rocker lipsticks I was instantly drawn to their two purple shades; Flatter me Fierce (a blue lavender matte – pictured here) and Evening Buzz (a grey lavender matte). There’s loads of bright alternative shades including some magical greens, blues and aquas. I might not wear it all the time, but I damn well need at least one of these in my collection!

Essence

One of my favourite places to shop for decent products at low prices is Wilko, and one of the beauty brands they stock is Essence. I recently grabbed a bunch of products from the Essence range and have been really happy with them. So I had to check out their new Spring Collection coming at the end of March 2017.

Essence - Out of Space Stories Nail Polish

One of the things I tried out was a bunch of their nail care range, and so I’m really excited about their nail products coming out. Look at this gorgeous space shade which is just one of their 7 new shades in the out of space stories nail polish collection.

Essence - Colour Correcting Liquid

After trying out Technic’s colour correction palette (as seen in my favourite 2016 beauty products), I’ve been keeping an eye out for other products like this. Essence’s high quality and low price means that their new colour concealer liquid instantly popped up on my radar.

L’Oreal

As someone who suffers from various issues with my skin (acne, scarring, blackheads, dermatillomania ), L’Oreal’s new Infallible Total Cover range didn’t just appear on my radar, it lit it up like a Christmas Tree. The fact that they included an acne sufferer in their advertising makes me feel confident that a brand has actually considered the issues faced by acne sufferers.  Not just said ‘it covers, here you go’. I’ve honestly never seen a skin range that has made me want to buy the whole thing ASAP. There’s a skin primer, a foundation and a colour correction palette; everything you need if you suffer from skin issues like mine.

loreal total cover foundation

Finding a foundation that actually covers properly when you have uneven skin is an ongoing problem for me. I’m gradually getting closer to perfect skin, but honestly it depends on the condition of my skin on the day. If I’ve had a bad dermatillomania flare up then my skin is far from smooth no matter how many products I use. So I am really curious to see if the Total Cover foundation is the one I’ve been waiting for, one that smooths and covers and doesn’t leave me looking like I have 20 layers on my face.

loreal total cover concealer palette

Like I said; I lover correction palettes. So grabbing the one in this range is a no brainer for me. I like that it has both colour correctors and concealer shades so you can get the ideal finish from the one palette.

Barry M

I have fond memories of being a teenager standing in front of Barry M displays and staring in awe at the range of colours. I still love Barry M so of course they made this list.

Barry M - Frosted Cupcakes Nail Polish

I’ve always been attracted to Barry M’s nail polishes because they’re high quality and have so many more shades than most brands. I’m a massive fan of their effect/shimmery polishes as they always come out looking great even if you’re not perfect when applying. So when they came out with their new Frosted Cupcake range in such cute shades I was immediately interested!

Barry M - Coconut Infusion

Coconut has become a massive trend in the world of beauty, and while I’ve jumped on board with some of it, I don’t always seek it out. However, it’s the combination of healthy coconut, shades and Barry M’s quality that has been desperate to try their Coconut Infused nail polishes. These have been out for a while, and there’s new shades out for Spring.

Barry M - Matte Me Lips

Lastly, they’ve just launched their own version of lip kits with their new matte lip range Matte Me Up. The lip kits are limited edition from Superdrug and Boots only, however, the individual matte lips are here to stay. Again, it’s knowing that I’m getting a quality product that attracts me to this product, as well as the affordable price!

Essie

As a colour and nail polish addict, Essie’s polishes have a tendency to make me drool. I’ve been following them on instagram and I’m especially in love with some of their new 2017 ranges:

Essie - treat love & colour

I LOVE the idea of being able to nurture my nails with colour rather than having to have multiple layers of different products. Essie’s Treat Love and Colour range currently comes in three sheer shades, and naturally, I’m obsessing over this pretty lavender shade.

Nudes

I keep seeing these on their instagram and love how they turn out. The Ballet Nudes collection comes in pale and nude shades which look so pretty and chic.

The Body Shop

Body Shop - Almond Milk & Honey

Another firm favourite of mine is The Body Shop and I’ve been using their products since my teens. I keep an eye out for their new collections and this year they’ve launched their Almond, Milk and Honey range. It’s designed for sensitive and dry skin and is aimed at your whole body not just your face (I suffer from very dry skin on my body) and I love these two ingredients. The shower gel is something I’m seriously wanting to try out, as is exfoliating cream scrub. What I like about it is that it comes in a handy pack (see featured picture) which means you can try out a bunch of the products before buying a full sized version.

What do you think of my list? Are any of these already on your spring wish lists, or have I just given you a serious craving for something? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Let me know in the comments!

Favourite Geeky Coffee Mugs

5 Fandom Friday - geeky coffee mugs

This weeks prompt is a special one to celebrate the birthday of one of the 5 Fandom Friday creators, Megan at The Nerdy Girlie. Happy birthday Megan! Unfortunately, I had to tweak the prompt a bit as I don’t visit coffee shops much. I wanted to keep with the coffee theme to honour Megan so I’m sharing my favourite geeky coffee mugs!

Please note – this post contains affiliate links.

Trolls dress up mug

Troll Dress Up Mug

I spotted this in a store last year and geeked out about it; Chris was not impressed. I loved trolls when I was a kid and the idea of being able to play dress up on my mug? Awesome. ((Image Credits – Amazon.co.uk))

R2-D2 Mug

There are loads of Star Wars themed mugs around, including some cute Funko Pop ones, so I had a hunt and my personal choice is this R2-D2 mug. I love that it is the shape of the droid and that his domed top covers the mug. I’m really accident prone so having a top on my mug is probably a good safety feature ๐Ÿ˜‰ ((Image Credit – Pricerighthome))

Marauders map mug

Marauder’s Map Mug

Colour changing mugs are becoming a thing, and Morphing Mugs has a whole range of them. It’s this Marauder’s Map mug though that remains my favourite because of how the map itself works. The map appears blank until it’s activated and the mug mimics that feature with the temperature change. ((Image Credits – Amazon.co.uk))

naughty nessies mug

Naughty Nessies Mug

I have been in love with the Naughty Nessies range since I found it, and this is my daily go to mug. I love how quirky and cute it is, and reading the ‘Nessies’ always makes me smile. ((Image Credits – Amazon.co.uk))

Little Miss Blogger mug

 Little Miss Blogger

Truffle Shuffle have so many awesome geeky, retro and 80s mugs that it was becoming seriously impossible to pick just one – and then I spotted this Little Miss Blogger mug! Of course it had to go in this list! ((Image Credits – Truffle Shuffle.co.uk))

Rose Gold Heart Bracelet Review

rose gold bracelet

After my post showing you the treasures of my Jewellery box I was offered a chance by The Lifestyle Blogger UK to receive and review one of their products. They are a UK based beauty and lifestyle blogger fashion boutique and I have to say guys, choosing from the selection I saw was not easy! They have some beautiful pieces of jewellery and lovely coloured scarves – and I’m not a scarf kinda girl yet I wanted them all! Like many I’ve been really attracted to rose gold and so I went for this lovely heart rose gold bracelet.

As you can see from the close up photo each heart has a texture design. It looks really rough and at first glance it looks as though it could irritate your skin. I’m a fan of chip-stone bracelets, bracelets literally made of unrefined and non-shaped chips of crystal so it’s something I am used to. However, when I put this bracelet on I couldn’t feel any textures. The grooves are very subtle and don’t press into your skin at all.

Holding it in my hand, the bracelet has a little bit of weight to it. However, once I put it on the weight wasn’t noticeable. It doesn’t feel any heavier or different from other bracelets I wear. One aspect of the design I particularly like is that it’s on elastic, it doesn’t have a clasp. As someone with a disability that effects my joints clasps can be particularly tricky for me and most of my items with clasps I have to get my fiancรฉ to fasten for me. Plus, being stretchy means that you can style this item differently;

Here you can see the bracelet nestled amongst a few of my beloved chip stone bracelets, adding a bit of extra sparkle! I chose complimentary colours in pink (rose quarts) and yellow (yellow calcite and citrine), however, you could jazz things up a bit with some bolder colours or contrasting colours such as purples and blues. Stretchy bracelets are also awesome duplicates for hair ties! I have very thick hair so I am always breaking hair ties at the most inconvenient of times and usually don’t have a spare with me. I’ve often swapped a bracelet in for a hair tie, and I can totally see this one being used to add a touch of sparkle or elegance to a ponytail or bun.

The lovely thing about rose gold is that it goes with many different colours. As you can see from these photos it looks stunning as an addition to a dark ensemble, such as a little black dress, and also with bright colours ready for spring and summer!

I hope you enjoyed this review! I am looking forward to taking this beautiful bracelet with me to the Sci Fi & Fantasy Weekender at the end of March and teaming it up with other accessories for the masquerade ball.

Geek on the High Street [Geek on the High Street]

Sharing Saturday: Geek on the High Street

It’s that time again! The aim of Geek on the High Street is to find and highlight geeky products that can be found in normal high street stores. Unfortunately a lot of women’s clothes stores and department stores like Debenhams & M&S consider geeky stuff to be for men or children. So Geek on the High Street was born to shine a light on some of the hidden geeky treasures for geek girls. I’ll be mainly focusing on women’s fashion since mostly women read my blog, but if anyone is interested in a male version please let me know in the comments! You can check out round 1 here and round 2 here ๐Ÿ™‚

Like last time you can find a few of my favourites featured in this post while the pinterest board has everything! ๐Ÿ™‚

Dorothy Perkins

Not much over at Dorothy Perkins as usual, however, there were a few cute and quirky items such as these racoon slippers, retro top and unicorn socks.

George at Asda

This time around George at Asda was quite a let down. A few socks, a Minnie and Mickey top and a few unicorn themed items were the highlights.

Evans

First timers on Geek on the High Street, Evans don’t have much in the way of geeky but I did manage to spot these quirky tops and some fab items in their nightwear section. Namely some awesome animal pyjama and night mask sets and animal themed dressing gowns.

H & M

H & M have an eclectic selection right now, including some DC underwear, this fabulous dragon onesie and some Disney and Star wars goodies.

New Look

Sorry unicorn fans, it seems that New Look has ditched their fascination with unicorns. Instead there’s some grungy gothic items and some cutie pie socks to satisfy your geeky needs!

Next

Next had a surprising amount of bits that caught my eye, including items from Disney, some rock band tees, these snazzy Star Wars PJs and just look at those awesome swan slippers!

Matalan

Another newcomer, Matalan seems to keep their geeky and quirky items for places that can’t be seen in public. Namely, sleeping, shoes and socks. If you’re partial to quirky socks then this is a place for you to check out.

River Island

River Island is mainly focused on dark, rock and grunge items, although there’s a few quirky items such as this science planet t-shirt that I spotted.

Select

First time here for Select, and and as you can see they don’t really cater much to the alternative and geeky crowd. I did find these two items though, and loving the #witchplease top.

Sports Direct

Sports Direct are once again the winner in all round awesomeness for alternative, quirky and geeky items with a tonne of well known fandoms and names covered. Like always you can view all the items I found on the Geek on the High Street pinterest board, but here are a few I had to share with you!

Sports Direct – Dresses

Wait.. Sports Direct have a new shop? ‘Fraid not folks. There were just that many absolutely awesome geeky dresses and skirts that I had to give them their own section, and even then this was me ‘narrowing it down to a select few’. Yep, you need to check them out on the pinterest board pronto!

TK Maxx

Ok, I may just be a little bit obsessed with the TK Maxx cat hoodie and t-shirt featured above. There’s not really any fandoms over there and the only geeky brands are band related. There’s some fun quirky and fantasy stuff though, like the dinosaur top and the wolf eyes t-shirt.

Topshop

Topshop’s geeky game is a bit all over the place this time around to be honest. There’s not really any fandoms, other than the Disney PJs seen here. However, if you’re looking for weird, whimsical, whacky and quirky then Topshop has you covered. As you can see from the selection here there’s some science stuff, zodiac, a few unicorns, some nifty slogans and those damn awesome snake jeans.

Uniqlo

Sadly Uniqlo’s collaboration with Disney is over, as is their Star Wars one that featured in December (although, to be fair you didn’t miss much as most of it catered to men or unisex). There’s still some Minnie and Mickey items about, as well as a bunch of Peanuts stuff and some awesome Marvel comic t-shirts too.

Have you spotted some geeky items around your local high street? Anything I’ve missed? Let me know, and don’t forget to follow the Pinterest board for future updates!

Geek on the High Street

Sharing Saturday: Geek on the High Street

Now that it’s autumn and there’s new clothing lines in, it’s time for round 2 of Geek on the High Street! The aim of Geek on the High Street is to find and highlight geeky products that can be found in normal high street stores. Unfortunately a lot of womens clothes stores and department stores like Debenhams & M&S consider geeky stuff to be for men or children. So Geek on the High Street was born to shine a light on some of the hidden geeky treasures for geek girls. I’ll be mainly focusing on women’s fashion since mostly women read my blog, but if anyone is interested in a male version please let me know in the comments! You can check out round 1 here ๐Ÿ™‚

This time I decided to create a pinterest board as well, and have pinned everything I’ve found on that board. This post only features a few of my favourites while the pinterest board has everything! ๐Ÿ™‚

Please note – To view an item closer please click the image to see a bigger size.

New Look

New Look are continuing their love for unicorns in a range of products including these awesome t-shirts that I thought were fantastic! There’s also an umbrella and some lovely purses with cats and unicorns too.

Sports Direct

Sports Direct remains the ruler of Geek on the High Street by far and right now a bunch of awesome stuff is on sale with ‘MUST GO’ tags. So go go go! There’s t-shirts, leggings, dresses, swim wear… really so much and all pinned on the pinterest board!

   George (Asda)

Sadly, George at Asda doesn’t have any geeky t-shirts or main clothing products but they do have a whole bunch of wonderful underwear and sleeping wear. How awesome are those Teenage Ninja Turtle briefs?!

Dorothy Perkings

Dorothy Perkings is sadly not very geek girl friendly, but I did find these cute quirky socks that I thought would appeal to come geeky girls.

H & M

H & M has a range of Disney and Band/Rock products to choose from. Here’s some of my favourites, and also a random esoteric/alchemy tote bag that I came across (and may have fell in love with…. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

Miss Selfridge

Carrying on the popular trend of Minnie and Mickey is Miss Selfridge and here’s a selection of some of their products featuring Disney’s infamous couple.

Next

Another store that seems to think geeky stuff belongs firmly in the men or kids section is Next, however, I did find these few items that are a bit on the geeky side. Personally I love the Mouse socks, I think they’re so cute and elegant and a touch subtle.

River Island

Found these few gems in River Island; that cat t-shirt screams geek to me!

Tesco/Tesco Direct

I know Tesco has its own clothing range, however, the website is for Tesco Direct which doesn’t really tell me whether these can be found in store. On the website there is a load of geeky stuff, however, this is Geek on the High Street not Geek on the web. I wanted to include a few of the goodies I found there because there is some seriously awesome stuff and if you have a Tesco near you, take a look sometime and see! More on the pinterest board if you want to see what else I found.

TK Maxx

TK Maxx is more about brand names at affordable prices so they don’t tend to have much geeky stuff, occasionally you’ll find a few and these are what I found. A random Superpowers top which comes in a range of colours and this Art Loves unite which I thought might appeal to some artistis/art geeks ๐Ÿ™‚

Top Shop

Top Shop had a reputation to keep up with after my surprise finds last time and it didn’t disappoint! There’s a range of Disney stuff, some random geeky things like the NASA and Dinosaur tops featured above, band/rock t-shirts and some Snoopy thrown in there too. Like before, everything I found is on the pinterest board.

Uniqlo

So it turns out that Uniquo have an arrangement with Disney and these are just some of the wonderful results. As you can see there’s still some Minnie & Mickey, but a load of other Disney characters too! I am so excited to see the chipmunks (!!) and love the Tangled and Belle t-shirts. Be sure to check out the whole range on the pinterest board.

I hope you enjoyed this round of Geek on the High Street! Is there anything that caught your eye? Anything I’ve missed? Let me know!
