Screenshot Challenge Wrap up & June’s Prompts

Screenshot Challenge

May was a total whirl and some of these got posted a bit late due to life and technical issues! But here’s the full months wrap up and June’s prompts for Screenshot Challenge!

Favourite Hero

Wooo it’s the first prompt for May for #justgeekingbysc #screenshotsunday ! As it’s free comic book time I picked favourite hero for today’s prompt.
World of Warcraft, like all games, is filled with heroes and yet one stood out to me straight away. Maybe it’s because I just watched this cinematic the other day, but Anduin was the clear winner of this title for me. We’ve watched Anduin grow up, get kidnapped, find his way and lose his father and thus, becoming King of Stormwind – and leader of the alliance? I’m not 100% sure on that one, but either way he has a heavy mantle on his young shoulders.
I won’t lie; I cried when I watched this cinematic. The whole questline dealt with Anduin’s loss, as well as the loss of his whole Kingdom in terms of the soldiers that perished that day alongside their King. As players we can just res and run back, and we don’t often really think about the amount of losses. There’s been a few examples in the past that have been horrific, but Legion is really pushing the emotional boat out and making it clear just how dire the circumstances.
Anduin is one of the few priests amongst the leaders that I feel I can actually relate to. I love Velen, but lets face it, he’s thousands of years old and a prophet. I love how we’ve been on every step of Anduin’s journey alongside him, like we have our own characters, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for him. He has so much power, such an amazing grasp of the light and the world around him. He’s not his father and that’s good, it’s what Azeroth needs.

Cherish

Week 2 #justgeekingsc #screenshotsunday – Cherish. This prompt was inspired by Mothers Day, so all the best to mothers of all kinds today. I couldn’t really find a mother screenshot that also worked for ‘cherish’ so here is some adorable cuteness along with some Cullen hotness from Dragon Age: Inquisition! Treasure is my 2017 word of the year, so cherishing the ones and things I love is something on the forefront of my mind right now. It’s really easy to forget what we have, to get lost in the pain and darkness of every day life. Cherish the good things you have and those you love.

Pastels

Week 3 of #screenshotchallenge #justgeekingbysc and the prompt is pastels. Here is a gorgeous pastel sunset/moonrise I came across in World of Warcraft tonight. The view of the mage city of Dalaran across the sky from Suramar.

Water

The prompt was water, and as one of the primal elements if features in pretty much every game ever and in so many different ways. From pets, to creatures, to gorgeous scenery like this shot from Guild Wars 2.

June’s Prompts!

Screenshot Challenge - June Prompts!

I had some fun with this one! 4th June is National Cheese day and as tempting as it was to pick just ‘cheese’ I went with the more general Food for the first week. It’s the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II and that seemed like a good excuse to ask you to share some Royalty for week two! Week three sees things hotting up as we head towards the Summer Solstice, so Sun seemed like a natural choice for the third week. Rounding off the end of the month is Rainbow to represent June as LGBT Pride month.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading through my wrap up, and would love to see some others joining in! It’s a fun thing for me to do on my own so while I can keep flying solo, I’d love to see what everyone else is doing too! 🙂 As always follow me on instagram to see my posts every Sunday!

Screenshot Challenge Wrap up & May’s Prompts

Screenshot Challenge

Holy moly, it really does feel like it was just the end of March. Like usual April was a pest of a month and I’m glad that it’s gone quickly! Here’s the wrap up for April with May’s prompts at the end as usual 🙂

Screenshot Challenge - Favourite Lore

Favourite Lore

Week 1 of April for the challenge was all about celebrating national library week by asking you what your favourite lore is! This is technically my second favourite, because my favourite is the dragons of WoW but since ‘Dragon’ is a prompt later on this month I decided to challenge myself and work out my second favourite… and boy was it a challenge! ⠀

I have read all the novels and comics of the World of Warcraft universe, and one of my biggest questions for years was what happened to Turalyon and Alleria after they went into a Portal in Outland after the second war. It was asked at pretty much every Blizzcon Q&A panel until finally it was announced that Legion would answer that question! This weeks screenshot is from a cinematic which showed a message from Turalyon…. I don’t know what else has happened as I’ve not been playing so please do NOT comment with spoilers. I have done the hunter artifact quest so I know that bit about Alleria, and that is it. I don’t know if anything else has happened and I’m looking forward to finding out!⠀

Screenshot Challenge - Pink

Pink

This weeks screenshot is pink! Pink is not my favourite colour, however, I absolutely adore the interiors designed in World of Warcraft’s The Burning Crusade expansion. This one is from one of the interiors of Tempest Keep and I’ll always admire the beauty and elegance in their designs.⠀

Screenshot Challenge - Rabbit

Rabbit

I was running a day late and had to grab one from the archive for this weeks challenge – Rabbit! Here’s my World of Warcraft main Kaelea dressed up in her Noble Garden bunny garb with her spring rabbit. Noble Garden has been one of my favourite WoW holidays for a long time, and I’m glad to find that there’s something new for me to collect this year so I can take part again. It’s extremely frustrating having nothing new to get from an event that you love. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
What does rabbit represent for you in your gaming? Is there an Easter/spring event? Let me know or post your own screenshot! ⠀⠀

Screenshot Challenge - Dragons

Dragons

In honour of St Georges Day (Patron Saint of England) the prompt was… DRAGONS!! Fun fact related to this prompt; my World of Warcraft guild has an official guild rule that states we have to kill any dragon we find 😛

I love dragons and the different ways in which they are presented in different games. Here you have the super cute adorable Aurene from guild wars 2 , a dragon from Dragon Age Inquisition and finally my favourites; the red dragon queen, Alexstraza, and her consort, Krasus, from World of Warcraft. They are both two characters with fascinating and tragic histories.
I am so excited that there’s going to be a new Chromie quest line in WoW! Anyone else looking forward to that?

Screenshot Challenge - Friends

Friends

The final prompt for April is friends, and I only play one game with a group of friends – World of Warcraft. I don’t have any group/guild screenshots, so I’ve gone for one of NPCs and their friends – Jaina and Valeera ready to kick some horde ass when Garrosh was warchief. ⠀

Did you take part? Let me know in the comments! I did really badly with variety this month, and it did end up being a WoW month! Hopefully next month I’ll do better 🙂

May’s Prompts!

Screenshot Challenge - May Prompts!

Once again I’ve taken some inspiration for May’s calendar of events to plan the prompts. The 7th May is Free Comic Book Day so I want to see your favourite hero! I’m specifically saying hero, not anti-hero because that will probably be a future prompt 😉 The 14th is Mothers Day around the world (for some reason here in the UK we have ours a totally different time) so I’ve gone a bit abstract and given you Cherish as that day’s prompt. I’m curious to see how this will be interpreted!

The 21st is totally random, and since we’re now in May I figured we’d go with pastel as it’s a colour/shade associated with spring. The 28th is Water, representing the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival.

Screenshot Challenge Wrap up & April’s Prompts

Screenshot Challenge

The first month of Screenshot Challenge has now finished and it’s time to wrap up! If you’ve been following me on social media then you’ve probably seen all this, but I wanted to document it all here too. You’ll also find April’s prompt at the end of the post. Enjoy!

Current Game

Screenshot Challenge - Current Game

I’m currently playing Guild Wars 2 with my fiancé. I’ve played most of it including the Heart of Thorns expansion, and this is his first time playing it. We’ve just finished the Living World seasons set before Heart of Thorns, and just heading into the expansion.⠀

This is a screenshot from the cinematic trailer for Heart of Thorns featuring members of Destiny’s Edge and Trehearne.⠀

City

City - Bioshock Infinite

The most beautiful city in a game I have ever seen is the floating city of Columbia in Bioshock Infinite and I’ve seen a lot of pretty cities. This one just stands out from the rest; probably due to the amazing quality of graphics in the game itself.⠀

What is your favourite city in a video game?⠀

Green

Green - Dragon Age: Infinite

There’s a lot of game stuff I associate with green; dragons, druids, hunters, necromancers – but the one that always sticks out? Dragon Age: Inquisition. If you’ve played the game, even a little bit, then you know what I’m taking about!

Luck

Luck - World of Warcraft

This screenshot from World of Warcraft is such an epitome of my luck in the game that I laughed out loud when I found it. ⠀

I have a history of being lucky with some mounts, and I was one of the first on my server to get this mount, the Headless Horseman’s mount. The gear my main is wearing also has it’s own story of luck attached to it. I had just joined a guild when this staff, Staff of Immaculate Recovery, dropped. I think it was literally my first run and due to some rule, or some technicality related to DKP, it went to me. Instead of the other priest in the raid who had been waiting for it for ages… it was pure luck that it happened that way. It sucked for the other player, and I’ve been in a worse situation so I feel for them, but people still remember that this happened 😛 ⠀

How about you? What does luck mean to you in a video game? Are you lucky with gear and rolls? Tell me your stories and don’t forget to share your screenshots!⠀

Next Month’s Prompts!

Screenshot Challenge - April's Prompts

I took some inspiration from April’s calendar and events to put together this months prompts. It’s National library week in the US from 2nd – 8th, so that prompt is asking you to represent your favourite lore. The 12th is National Pink day, so pink is the colour of choice this month. You guessed it, rabbit is for Easter and the Brits among you might recognise the significance of Dragon on the 23rd. It’s St George’s Day and St George slew the dragon. And finally, Pay it Forward Day is at the end of the month (28th) so the final Sunday is dedicated to friends! I can’t wait to see what people come up with and hope you’ll enjoy following me along on social media, especially instagram with the hash tag #justgeekingbysc.

My Goals for March

Monthly Goals: March 2017

It’s been a few months since I did one of these. January was just a crazy mess and February was all about the chest infection. Time to get back on track!

Blogging

  • I have blog ideas coming out of my ears right now. Seriously, so many ideas so hopefully this month will see an increase in content!
  • Commenting; yep, still an ongoing issue for me and I’m slowly getting there. People have actually had comments left by me recently *gasp*
  • Work on Blog Promo Links List.
  • Work on SEO.
  • Pinterest images for entries.
  • Media Kit? Might be able to squeeze this in this month.

Bullet Journal

I started a bullet journal this year to coincide with my 2017 Word of the Year Treasure (read more here).  February was supposed to be my first month of trackers and as you can imagine, the chest infection threw that out the window. That means March is the first time tracking things, so I need to keep up to date with it and stick to it.

Challenges

I’ve just launched The Screenshot Challenge and I’m also taking part in Magical March hosted by Kayla. I’ll be posting a selfie every day and screenshots every Sunday on my instagram.

Gaming

Since December I’ve not been playing WoW. With everything that happened in December I just haven’t felt like being social and WoW is my social game. So I went back to Guild Wars 2 and Chris joined me, so we’ve been playing through that together; first time for him. I’m playing it pretty leisurely so I don’t have any specific goals, I’m enjoying just floating by!

I do want to try and start the Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC’s this month though. I was focused on GW2 and have been busy, so hoping to fit it in somewhere.

Reading

I have been in a slump since the start of the year. I’ve gotten through some comics, and that is about it. I still haven’t finished a book I started in November, not because there is anything wrong with the book, I just have no motivation to read. It could be because I’ve been so stressed and ill, or I’ve just not had enough energy to spare. I hope to change it this month and get back on track!

Convention Preparation

Last year I won 6 tickets to the Sci Fi and Fantasy Warriors weekender, a weekend of geekyness and meeting guests! There’s some great guests there including Nicholas Brendon from Buffy, Chris Barrie from Red Dwarf and Gareth David Lloyd from Torchwood. There’s also a masquerade ball, something I have been wanting to go to for so long! It’s at the end of the month so I need to get a bunch of stuff prepared:

  • Discuss and plan schedule for the weekend.
  • Test hair and make up.
  • Look up DIY masques and make ours.
  • Create blog business cards and get them shipped.
  • Prepare/collect items for signings.
  • Packing list.
  • Food/Meal planning.

Dissertation

My dissertation had to go on the back burner a bit due to my recent illness, so this month I really need to crack on with it. I’ve had to re-evaluate the way I’m approaching my research question so it is something more plausible. I’m currently looking at a possible diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and one important aspect of living with the condition is learning to pace myself. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have made some good head way with this!

Have you got any goals for March? Let me know!

Screenshot Challenge

Screenshot Challenge

A while back I had the idea of doing an instagram challenge for video games. That idea then evolved into this; the Screenshot Challenge. The idea of this challenge is to join in the weekly twitter and instagram tag #screenshotsunday and making things a bit more interesting by having a weekly prompt. Starting from March 2017 I’ll be posting a set of prompts/challenges for each sunday. They will be purposefully open or vague so you can interpret them as you wish. There are only two rules; follow the prompt and post on a sunday (as much as you can, if you’re a bit late don’t worry – it’s the taking part that counts 🙂 ).

How you join in is totally up to you! You can post on any social media with just an image, using the hashtags #justgeekingbysc and #screenshotsunday. Or you can post a blog entry with more details and screenshots. It is entirely up to you! You can choose to stick to one game, or change each week. It can be on any format, and from any time – you can take screenshots that day if you wish or use one taken previously.

Posting to Instagram

I wanted to add a little bit about posting screenshots to instagram. You could, technically, just take a photo of your screen using your phone. What I find works better is using a site like Later.com which allows you to upload images from your PC and send it to an app on your phone. This then downloads the image on your phone and lets you open it in instagram. If you know of any other apps or websites that do the same thing please let me know and I’ll add them here.

Another method suggested by Kathy is to post the screenshot to twitter first, then save it from twitter to your device. You can then pop it onto instagram and voilà!

I will be taking part on instagram @JustGeekingBy so feel free to follow me and join in! I can’t wait to see what you guys have to share 🙂
