9 Facebook Groups To Promote Your Blog!

Blog Promo Links - Facebook Groups

There are many ways to promote your blog online and I’ve noticed that not every blogger realises that wide variety of options available to them. That is something I want to change, and I also want to help show bloggers that there are some fun ways out there too! Most of you will be familiar with the idea of repeatedly commenting on blogs, posting on social media or taking part in Facebook group threads. There are some much less tedious ways to promote your blog, and even create new content while you do it!

So once a month (well, this month you’re technically getting two because I just missed out on getting this up for June!) I’m going to be sharing a bunch of Blog Promo Links. I’ll be including a variety of sources and genres, so sometimes there will be themed posts like ‘beauty blogs’ or ‘craft blogs’ or like today’s it will be a certain type i.e. facebook group, link-ups, tags. I’ll put a little explanation of how each one works as well so if you’ve never heard of it you’ll be able to get a gist of how it works. I’ll also be taking requests so feel free to leave me a comment if you want me to track something down for you 🙂

Pinterest Boards

I’ve also set up two group pinterest boards for Blog Links;

  • Blog Promo Links – Basically the same links I’ll be sharing with you, anything where you can actively promote your blog.
  • Blog Promotion Guides – A board for sharing any guides about promoting your blog, especially on certain sites and social media networks.

You can gain access to either of these by e-mailing me at blog@ruby-wings.net and you can follow them by clicking the follow buttons below!

5 Photo Challenges for September 2017!

5 Photo Challenges for September

Anyone who’s followed me on instagram for a while will know that I love photo challenges, unfortunately, they’re not something I always have time for 🙁 That doesn’t mean I can’t live vicariously through you guys though! 😉 So this week for Sharing Saturday I’m sharing 5 challenges people have put together for the month of September! Don’t be put off by it being the 9th day already, there’s nothing stopping you from jumping in now or catching up by back posting! Most of these sites/accounts have one each month so if September’s too busy or you want to start from the beginning just follow their accounts and hang on until October for a new challenge 🙂

The great thing about challenges is that you can do them at any time; while it’s fun to do them alongside other people, you can take inspiration from old challenges too! Head over to my pinterest board to find a bunch of old ones that I’ve stockpiled! ((Banner image from Public Domain Images.))

5 Awesome Animal Facebook Pages to Follow Now!

Sharing Saturday: Animal facebook groups

This week I’m sharing some of my favourite animal related pages on Facebook. There will be cute animals, silly pictures, and beautiful videos – I am not responsible for any tears or hours of your life lost to browsing through said pages 😉 That being said, these are a good go to if you need cheering up.

The Black Jaguar-White Tiger Foundation

I only found out about this page last year and I am in love with it and maybe just a little addicted. The page follows the Foundation set up by Eduardo Serio, lovingly called Papa Bear, who rescues animals from terrible circumstances. While it’s mainly big felines, hence the name, there are a bunch of other animals too which also feature regularly on the page. What makes this foundation so special is Papa Bear’s approach to his animals; love. The amount of work and love put into raising and rehabilitating these animals is beyond amazing. He has big felines of all different breeds living together, not because he’s forced them to, but because they love one another. Every video and picture posted by Papa Bear and the team shows you how much his furry babies adore him. They give us a very special and unseen look into the world of big felines, and it is precious and beautiful.

Hessel & Hannes

I’ve been following these guys for a few years now, and the page features a black Labrador and ginger cat who are best friends. In addition to their friendship, the page also follows the antics of their fellow dogs Millie and Olav (who is seriously the most adorable puppy you have ever seen). Their friendship is beautiful, funny and a little bit crazy at times.

Cats sleeping in awkward positions

Anyone who’s ever owned a cat will tell you that at times they are completely off their rocker. This page focuses on one of those aspects; cats sleeping in weird and sometimes very awkward (how on earth is that even comfortable?!) positions. It is great for a laugh or just to reminisce/confer with your fellow cat owners.

Candice Sedighan Photography

Candice’s photography focused on her beautiful Golden Retriever Champ. Sadly, Champ passed away and now her photography focuses on Bear as he grows up. Her photos are well put together, stunning and have a playful genuine feel to them that you rarely find. They are heart warming and precious to behold.

Lumina Reptiles

Last, but not least, is a page run by a personal friend of mine, Jayme. As the title sounds, yep, we’re talking about reptiles here. Namely snakes and Jayme has some beauties! If you’re not a snake fan then look away, if you are fascinated by lovely reptiles then please check it out.

Holiday Wishes 2016

Christmas Wishes 2016

For several years now I’ve taken part in the livejournal community Holiday Wishes. To sum it up quickly; it’s a place where you post your wishes, and others post theirs and you help each other out by doing what you can. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to reply, to comment, or send you a sweet card to make someone’s December a little bit easier. It can be a very stressful month in many ways and 2016 has been an awful year in many respects.

So hop on over to Holiday Wishes to read the rules and check out other people’s lists and make someone’s day just a little bit brighter!

STEP ONE

  • Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered… whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related (“I’d love a Snape/Hermione icon that’s just for me”) to medium (“I wish for _____ on DVD”) to really big (“All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV”). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
  • If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!
  • Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO

  • Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here’s the important part…
  • If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes one person’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use – or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free – do it.
  • You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to be someone else’s holiday elf – to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not – it’s your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just… wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.

My List

1 – Check out my blog,  leave me some comments and maybe volunteer for an interview? 😉 This year I’ve been upping my blogging game, adding new features and generally giving it a big reboot. So I’d love for you to check it out and leave some comments <3 I also have a monthly interview feature which I need volunteers for; you can find out more about that on my blog under ‘interviews’ in the main menu 🙂

2 – Follow me on Social MediaTwitter, Facebook Page, Instagram, Pinterest and Blog Lovin all need some love and I like meeting new people!

3 – Icons – I use icons over on my blog and would love some new ones. Credit will be given at the end of each post when I use one of your icons. What I would like; TV shows (Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, DC Shows [especially some cute Barry ones!], Supernatural, Rizzoli & Isles), Animals (I love any animals so surprise me!), Christmas/Winter, Seasons & holidays (some for each season as well as holidays – I’m in the UK), Nature, Video Games (World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age series), Star Wars (especially The Force Awakens, I’ve had no time to make them), and geeky/library/book ones.

4 – Send me something! – I love receiving things and collect post cards, key rings and magnets. I’d love to receive a care package or a little goodies as I’ve never received one before. I like candles, geeky stuff, and cats. I have no allergies, but I’m currently on a strict diet so no food items please (as much as it grieves me to say :P).  I do feel that I need to be upfront and say I can’t send anything in return 🙁 Instead I will return my love by finding something on your list I can do for you! Please contact me for my address.

5 – Art – I am loathe to expect anyone to do art for me for free, which is why I want to emphasise that this would be a truly magical and much loved gift. I know how hard artists work, and so this is a shout out to anyone who feels inspired or would like the practise. I’d love some sketches, cartoon or chibi style of me (for my blog) or my World of Warcraft character Kaelea.

6 – Second hand books – I really shouldn’t add to my already long reading list, but I can’t help myself 😛 If you’re in the UK and happen to have any old books lying around that you don’t want please check out my Goodreads to read list (I’ll accept digital copies as well in any format). Or if you use bookmooch and have some spare points, that would be great too!

7 – Youtube Subs – I took a massive step this year and started a youtube channel. Health has prevented me from updating it in a while, however, I still have everything recorded and waiting to edit so it will be revived (soon hopefully!). Any subscribers or views would be great, comments if you’re a WoW player would be fantastic too.

8 – Unused make-up or beauty products/samples – I have slowly been growing my collection of make up and beauty products so that I can start posting reviews and tutorials on my blogs. So if you have anything lying around that you don’t want/use, like free samples you’ve picked up or gotten from magazines, I’d love them! Due to hygiene reasons I can only accept sealed items, with the exception of nail polish.

9 – Amazon Wish List – Anything on my wish list would be absolutely amazing <3

10 – Gift Cards – For Starbucks, Steam or Birchbox are top of the list, but any others (UK friendly!) are always welcome too.

Do you take part in Holiday Wishes too? Post your list in the comments so I can check it out! <3

A Guide to Online Advent Calendar Competitions

Sharing Saturday: Online advent calendars

Yep, another advent calendar sharing saturday. The last one I promise and probably the most exciting one because I’m introducing you into the world of online advent calendar competitions – which are free to enter! I enter them every year and for the past couple of years have won several prizes. They’re great fun, a tad bit addictive and easy to take part in. There’s so many that I’m not going to list them, I’m just going to explain the types of competitions and then give you some sites where fabulous people have listed all the advent competitions they find.

Type of Advent Competitions

Instant Wins

Instant wins are basically competitions which involve clicking an advent window, bauble or bingo ticket and instantly winning a prize. Expect a lot of ‘sorry you have not won this time….’ messages, but wins do happen! Last year I won my Star Wars BB-8 Sphero droid from one of these 😀 I highly recommend Tombola’s advent calendar as you always win something on it.

Fill out a Form

Like instant wins, you have to click on the advent number for the day and instead of getting an instant notification you have to fill in your details. Sometimes you’ll need to answer a question, or count how many santa hats are on a page. A winner is the selected and notified at a later date. If you don’t want your email spammed I suggest making a new one just for competitions.

Treasure Hunts

Treasure Hunts require you to hunt around for an item, usually something christmassy like a santa hat, gift or candy cane. Sometimes these will be static, i.e. on a certain page/product, while others will be random. One that has a random chance is Top Cash Back which has a daily clue for a guaranteed humming bird (the treasure you need to find) and can randomly pop up on other pages as you browse the site.

Social Media

Social media has made it so much easier to join in competitions, especially at advent time. These take place on facebook, twitter and instagram, and I’ve seen a few using snapchat as well this year. You have to like/follow the account/page and then follow the instructions. These usually involve sharing/retweeting, answering a question or tagging friends. It’s good because you can see how many people are entering, but don’t be put off by this! I’ve had some success with social media competitions and last year also had a company send me a wee little gift in response to something I said. There are real people running these competitions so every so often surprises can happen.

Bloggers

Several bloggers are posting advent calendar competitions as well, and they tend to use rafflecopter or gleam which is a little widget that asks you to do things. These include commenting, following social media accounts, sharing/retweeting etc. Some of my favourite ones to watch are Tanned Beauty Addict and Thou Shall Not Covet who have amazing prizes up for grabs!

Pass the Parcel

One of the most popular competitions is Marks and Spencers Pass the Parcel competition, in which you use the application on Facebook and pass parcels to friends and family – they then pass them back to you. The last few years the M&S one has become insanely popular and closes within days. It is worth it if you can play it though! Another one we’ve won on in the past few years 🙂 Other companies, such as Joules, have started doing their own pass the parcel and I’m sure some others will pop up too.

Lists of Competitions

So, now you’ve read about them… are you ready to see what’s out there?!  Here are my favourite sites for finding advent competitions. You’re also welcome to follow me on twitter as I will be retweeting any I enter too!

Keep in mind – Some competitions have started already, while others that last for 12 days before christmas will open at a later date. So it’s worth while checking back at these sites for new competitions!
