8 Artists I Want To Commission

Sharing Saturday - Artists I want to commission

I would love to commission a million different artists for work, but sadly it’s not in my budget just now. So this is a list of awesome artists that accept commissions, and hopefully one day I can request one from them! As usual all copyright and credit goes to these wonderfully talented artists. Please do check out their Patreons and follow them on social media if you like there work.

I also have a pinterest board where I’ll be adding any new artists to, so feel free to follow along to find new and amazing artists!

I think another artist on this list shared Straya’s work at some point and it is so utterly unique that I KNEW that one day I would have to commission something from her. What, I have no idea because as you can see from these examples the scope of her skill is massive.

Today's 10/100 of my #100dayproject is my bff witch babe and art twin and future wife, Briana Mora. Her and I both freelance now (yay!) so I get to annoy the shit out of her again!!!! We met when we used to work at hot topic and I was too shy back then and not aggressive enough to try and be friends with her but luckily she probably noticed and showered me with compliments which broke down my shy barrier. This is Lola, a mechanic! She holds a special place in my heart now bc her character design is /amazing/ and side note, I almost went to an automotive vocational school! (Weird fact about me I guess? My dad is a mechanic. Oh well!) Anyways, go check out @babsdraws @cameronmstewart and @brendenfletcher'S motorcrush series at your local comic shop! photoshop / MattyDraws pencil brush / Kyle Brushes paintbox glazier #noboringmedia #noboringfam #lianakangas #patreon #illustration #portrait #nerd #comics #girlswholikecomics #comicart #girlboss #creativehappylife #creativepreneur #comicbooks #cintiq #Wacom #photoshop #communityovercompetition #abmlifeiscolorful #risingtidesociety #the100dayproject #100daysofportraits #100daysofportraitslk #imagecomics #motorcrushfanart #motorcrushmonday

Planets I Would Like to Visit

5 Fandom Friday - Planets I want to visit

This weeks prompt was a suggestion by me, and I’m very honoured to have it chosen and of course, I had to do this one! When I suggested it I remember being really excited for it, with loads of ideas… the problem is that I still had TOO many ideas. I could do a top 5 planets list of for several individual planets alone! So I whittled it down to one per fandom, with one exception 😉 Enjoy!

Planets - Star Wars: Coruscant

Star Wars – Coruscant

Picking just one Star Wars planet was difficult. There’s also Naboo, Nal Shada, Alderaan and Korriban that were high on the list. In the end I went with Coruscant, the capital city of the Star Wars universe and centre of the Galaxy. Unlike most planets it is extremely built up, with layers upon layers of buildings and some inhabitants never ever see the sky. Aesthetically it’s not very pleasing to me, but there’s so much culture and tradition there that makes it my first choice. ((Image credit – Star Wars Wiki))

Planets - World of Warcraft: Azeroth

World of Warcraft – Azeroth

Azeroth is probably the planet that I have spent most of my time on (virtually) other than Earth. It’s the main planet in the World of Warcraft universe and with two continents and various islands, it has so much to offer in terms of nature, culture, technology and magic. From the gorgeous scenery, to the ancient cultures and architecture and not to mention magic and fantastical creatures! I could quite happily spend a life time immersing myself in this planet and all it has to offer. ((Image Source – My Screenshot Gallery))

World of Warcraft – Argus

This is the fandom double up entry for the week. Sorry, it was just too damn irresistible not to have on the list. Argus is the original planet of the Draenei who were forced to abandon it to the Burning Legion. We are finally getting to visit it in patch 7.5 and I can’t wait! While in previous World of Warcraft expansions I’ve loved exploring new parts of the current world, or those now available to players. However, Legion has definitely been one for going that bit further a field and it’s great! ((Image Source – WoW Wiki))

Planets - Avatar: Pandora

Avatar – Pandora

Avatar is not even close to being one of my main fandoms, but oh my goodness – THAT planet. I fell in love with Pandora, it’s beauty, it’s culture and spirituality. While I didn’t mind the story of the film, it was the world itself and the wonderful creatures and design that captured my heart. ((Image Source – Avatar Wiki))

Planets - Doctor Who: Galifrey

Doctor Who – Galifrey

The problem with a fandom that spans the whole of time and space is that most planets get a bit lost in the vastness of the universe. I cannot, off the top of my head, name a single other planet for the Doctor Who/Torchwood universe other than Galifrey. Galifrey would have been my ultimate answer anyway because it’s mother fricking Galifrey, home of the time lords and it’s back! I could name plenty of species/races from the show, but planets? Not a clue. I could probably name more time periods than anything else 😛 Why Galifrey? Well, duh. It’s home of the time lords. ((Image Credit – TARDIS Core Data Wiki))

What do you think of my planet list? Do you find that there’s loads for you to choose from or are you not a huge sci fi fan? I only have a few fandoms that are predominantly sci fi and even less that have planets. What’s on your list?

My 5 Favourite Fictional Mothers [5 Fandom Friday]

This week’s prompt was for retro video games, but sadly, I didn’t really play video games back when they could be considered retro. So I’ve gone back a few years and picked one I could answer; mothers! This one still took a while for me to get into, and I really need to read/watch more stuff that has actual mothers in it. I went through a mental list of most recent books read and every time it was ‘mother dead/MIA’. I also didn’t want to fall back on old favourites that I’ve mentioned before in other ways (Leia, Padme from Star Wars for example).

Favourite Mother - Keladry's Mother

Ilane of Mindelan

Kel’s Mother

What I love about Kel’s mother Ilane is that she’s a fighter and a noble lady. In the world of Tamora Pierce’s Tortal series Kel is the first lady knight to come along after the infamous Lioness, Alanna. It was a big step for Tortal, let alone Kel and her family, and while Ilane wasn’t originally sold on the idea of her daughter becoming a Knight – not because it wasn’t something girls did, but because she wasn’t certain her daughter was choosing what was best for her. Once she knew Kel had truly chosen what she wanted to do, Ilane supported her daughter whole heartedly. She’s forthright, and a fighter in her own right, instilling respect and love in her children. When she heard that her daughter in law had insulted Kel, Ilane made sure that she learned her lesson. She is respected by a foreign nation not because her husband is the diplomat, but because she fought to save something sacred to them. ((Image Source – Tamora Pierce Wiki))

Favourite Mothers - McGarrett

Doris McGarett

Steve’s Mum

I’m going to have to put this one under a spoiler tag because it’s near impossible to talk about this character, let alone do her justice, without giving away spoilers of Hawaii 5-0. ((Image Source – Springfield TV Screencaps))
Doris isn’t really what anyone would call a good mother. She faked her own death when Steve and his sister were just kids, and Steve only found out she was alive by basically being nosey and figuring stuff out on his own. Would she have ever popped back up if he hadn’t? Probably not. Yet Doris is one of my favourite mothers. In short; she’s a total badass. She may suck at being a mother, and doing motherly things, but she loves her kids and would do anything for them. She did. She made the ultimate sacrifice and removed herself from their lives when she realised she couldn’t do the good mummy routine. She’s the type of person that has to make the hard choices, and she does. Add to her sarcastic and witty attitude, and banter with her son, and you can guarantee that an episode with her will be great fun.
Favourite Mothers - Catherine

Catherine Bordey

Camille’s Mother

This is probably one of the few examples where a main character has left the show (Death in Paradise) and their mother has remained a regular cast member. From the first time we met Catherine I was blown away by how savy, down to earth and caring she was to everyone she meets. If you get on her bad side you’ll regret it, but if she likes you and you respect her than she’s always there for you. I love the newest development to her character in the last season and think that she will do a fantastic job in her new role. ((Image Source – Red Planet Productions))

Favourite Mother - Molly Weasley

Molly Weasley

The Weasleys’ Mother

I’ve talked about my love for Molly and the Weasleys before, so it’s not really a surprise to find her on this list. Despite having such a large family, Molly has so much love that it spreads to both Harry and Hermione. Hermione will later become her legal daughter in law, but while the Trio are kids, Molly makes them all feel like they’re part of one big family. Molly isn’t a push over though, as we see when she sends Ron a Howler and, of course, at the Battle of Hogwarts when she protects her daughter. She’s a fighter and a lover, because some things – like family – you fight for with everything you got and this is something that she teaches to all her children. ((Image Source – Pottermore))

Favourite Mother - MiraxMirax Terrik Horn

Valin and Jysella’s Mother

It was hard for me to pick a mother from the Star Wars universe, not because they’re so few but because they are so many. I wanted to choose one of the lesser known mothers from Legends, and in the end Mirax won. Mirax essentially had three children; her two kids and her Jedi/Rogue Squadron pilot husband, Corran. She was also the only one with no Force powers, and marrying into the Corellian Jedi traditions. Thankfully as the daughter of the infamous smuggler Booster Terrik, Mirax is more than capable of looking after herself and giving it as good as she gets. When her children end up in deep trouble, with the entire Galaxy pretty much gunning for them, Mirax will do whatever she has to to protect them.  ((Image Source – Star Wars Wiki))

Are you familar with any of these mothers? Who are your favourites?

Fred’s Box Minifigures Subscription Box Review

Fred's Box, subscription box for kids (and geeks!) Review

I have always wanted to receive a subscription box and so when the lovely team at Fred’s Box contacted me to offer me the chance to review one, I snapped up the chance! I had hoped to use this as a good excuse to begin my foray into the world of videos via an unboxing video, but sadly my body has decided not to comply with that request. I was good though! I sat on the closed box for a while before having to admit defeat and open it. I may still do a video after the fact, for now I hope you enjoy my review!

About Fred’s Box

So, a little introduction first to the product. Fred’s Box is a kid’s monthly subscription box, but as you can tell from me – aka an adult with no children (cats don’t count for this one!) – this is a box that is just as appealing to geeky adults because it is a box filled with minifigures! Yep, those little guys that fit on building blocks like Lego. I love these and have several keyring versions. There are 9 different versions of Fred’s Box so you can easily get one that works best for you! Small Fred’s Box contains 2 minifigures; Standard Fred’s Box contains 4 minifigures; Medium Fred’s Box contains 6 minifigures; Large Fred’s Box contains 10 minifigures; Party Fred’s Box contains 15 minifigures. There are also boxes available in genders; Fred’s box for boys, Lily’s for girls and Mojo for twins – I really like the fact that there’s a twins version. You also don’t have to pick a gendered one; you can go unisex, so if gendered toys is an issue for you this is one company that puts the option in your hands, as the parent, or your child’s.

Their customisation options go even further; they openly offer you the chance to discuss your box with them and ask for a theme. I was offered this chance and went with the first things that came to mind; Star Wars and comic book characters.

Every month we choose a different theme: from TV characters, to Superheroes and even Santa or the Easter Bunny. It’s not only the theme that changes each month, either – each month is unique, filled with a fresh batch of awesomeness!”

They offer you the chance to browse their Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts to see the full range of figures. Personally I’m holding back as I’d prefer to have it be a surprise if I get another box in the future. The prices are also very reasonable, starting £4.85 for 2 figures for a one off box. You can save a few pennies by going with a subscription for 3 months (for 2 figures) which is £14.50. Six months is £27.50 and a year is £54.00, bringing the price down each time with a yearly subscription coming in at £4.50 a month.

My Box

I was very happy to open my box and find out that Star Wars had been selected as my theme! The pre-mentioned keyrings are also Star Wars (and cat woman), and these are all brand new additions to my collection. The box was small enough to fit through my letter box, and the figures were snuggly wrapped in paper confetti – which is a good thing because my postman was not at all careful about slinging it through the post box! The paper confetti doesn’t look like much protection, however, because of the nature of the minifigures with their nooks and crannies, they actually catch in the paper and hold in place. I was able to tip the box up for photo #2 and the only thing that moved were the additional weapons.

Speaking of which; they were a nice additional touch! I didn’t expect to get little props with them, and was so excited to see that there was one that matched each figure – including a bow caster for Chewie! I also was really happy to see that there was such a mix; I’ve got two big characters (Chewie and Vader) from the original trilogy, and prequels, and then K-2SO from Rogue One (which I’ve still not seen, I know, total failure as a Star Wars geek!). The stormtrooper I’m not sure if he’s the newer edition from The Force Awakens or resembles the older ones from the OT – I’d have to hunt down some photos from the movies to actually check for sure. But the fact is, they have that much detail that I actually have to ask the question. From their helmets to the details on their chests, each figure is a wonderful miniature of much loved characters. K-2SO is a bit different from the others as he’s much thinner and his body doesn’t move as much, or come apart like the others (I may have accidentally pulled a few arms out and beheaded the stormie while trying to fit the weapons….).

Overall Opinion

I was really happy with the box! I had so much fun taking the photos of the individual figures, to the point where I have a distinct feeling you may see a photo shoot set around the house or outside with them in the future 😉 They are fantastic quality and the thought and effort that goes into putting each box together makes it really feel like someone cares about the box you receive – something that makes it even more magical, especially if you’re giving it to a child. The packaging was simple and effective, and I like that it fitted through the mailbox with ease (and survived my not-so-gentle postie bouncing it off the floor..). Sometimes you’re not able to make it to the door, or even be home, when a delivery is due so that is really useful. One thing is for sure; Fred’s box is addictive. These super cute minifigures make you want to have more! I’m thrilled to bits with my Star Wars ones, but now I want to know what else there is! It’s a little bit of magic sailing through your door every month, and whether you’re a kid or an adult, the wonder of what could be hiding in your box this time is huge.

Pinterest Competition

Fred’s Box currently have a competition going on over on their Pinterest account until the end of May. So go check it out, get pinning and good luck! If you win or decide to get a box let me know what you get!

I hope you enjoyed this review and if you have any questions about something I’ve not covered let me know in the comments!
