30 Beauty Advent Calendars for 2016

Sharing Saturday: Alternate Advent Calendars - Beauty

I love advent calendars, however, opening little doors just for a tiny bit of chocolate isn’t as appealing as it once was. I’ve been doing online advent calendars (I’ll introduce you to some at the beginning of December when they open!) for several years now, and last year I came across beauty advent calendars! This year I kept an eye out, found several different beauty ones as well as some other alternative advent calendars. So over the next few weeks I’m going to be posting the best ones I can find, starting last week with food and drink calendars. 5 Characters I Want to Dress Up as for Halloween [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Characters I want to dress up as for Halloween

marajade

Star Wars – Mara Jade

My favourite all time character, so of course she has to be first on this list! Her outfit is very simple to make and I’ve dyed my hair the correct colour in the past so that’s also easy!

leia

Star Wars – Leia

Sadly, Mara is no longer actual Star wars canon (yet) so my actual canon choice which most people would recognise is Leia. Particularly this outfit as I have wanted to dress up in this iconic outfit since I was a teenager!

belle

Disney – Belle

Despite loving Disney, I don’t feel a big attachment to many of the female protagonists so this was easy to narrow down. Belle is a fantastic character, and a book lover to boot!

phedre

Kushiel Legacy – Phedre

This is definitely one for the daring list, but I love the idea of the marques (full back tattoo) while I couldn’t have a permanent one (I’m too ticklish!) I’d love to have one for Halloween or a costume ball.

kaelea-copy

World of Warcraft – My Main

If I had the time, the skill and the ability to recreate some of the gorgeous characters and appearances from World of Warcraft I have a feeling I’d never stop. Choosing an NPC is insanely difficult, but I’d love to dress up as my main character, my human priest.

5 Gateway Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am Today [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Fandoms that made me who I am

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged and posted a Fandom 5. I was away on a personal break for 3 weeks and then I’ve been sick since coming back. Sadly Fandom 5 hit a slump as it’s not been updated for new topics, but some of us over at Geek Girls Bloggers have been heading back to some old topics because we love Fandom 5! This is technically last weeks topic as neither of this weeks appealed to me and this one kept sneaking back in my thoughts.

sw

I can’t remember the exact age I was when I saw my first Star Wars movie, I was about 7-10 and it was Return of the Jedi. It stuck with me for years until I got my dad the movie boxset for fathers day when I was about 12/13… my dad never actually saw them, they began to live permanently in my room and I became obsessed with them. It was my first fandom, and I started reading the EU books then as well.

buffy

Buffy came a few years after my Star Wars love affair began, when I was about 14-15 and again it became a huge fandom in my life at that point. It is still one of my most watched tv show, and I still love it. It’s my go to show when I feel crap and need a pick me up, or need to be reminded that even when it’s dark there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This fandom got me into writing fanfic, roleplaying and so much more.

nw

Around the same time I started reading the Night World series by LJSmith, and this was my first book fandom. It really opened my eyes into world building, leading onto more roleplaying and fanfic and just how much was out there in the world of urban fantasy and young adult fiction.

tortall

Tamora Pierce was my first foray into fantasy, again opening paths into so much more fandoms and fantasy worlds that I’ve read since. I became involved with the Sheroes forum, as well as new roleplay adventures, and this one generally got me more into the whole fandom community thing rather than being something personal to me.

wow

World of Warcraft came so much later than the others, but with it came my love for video games which was a gateway into a whole new world of fandoms. Dragon Age, Bioshock, Guild Wars, Diablo.. and so many more.

4 Beautiful Etsy Stores I Love

Sharing Saturday: etsy stores

I love etsy and have been known to get lost on it for hours on end. Here are a selection of stores I’ve been following for a while. I absolutely love their style and the range of items they sell and I hope you do to!

Do you have any awesome etsy stores you think I’ll like? Leave a comment! 🙂

brandi2 brandi3brandi1

Brandi York Art

What drew me originally to this store was the gorgeous art nouveau style art as shown above, however, since then Brandi’s art has grown in leaps and bounds. Her stop features a wide range of geeky items from various different fandoms. Shown above are her pieces for Sylvanas (World of Warcraft),  Harry Dresden (Dresden files) and Jaina Proudmore (World of Warcraft) – click a photo to be taken directly to that item!

Circes House

As a Pagan I often find it hard to find jewellery that uses unique gemstones, and so I turn to etsy for my fill. This store in particular caught my eye because of the use of various gemstones with delicate items and beads. I’m not a big fan of massive stones, so this store suits me well. Items displayed are Labradorite necklace, Moonstone earrings and a Citrtine Necklace.

TheHouseof Mouse

TheHouseofMouse is exactly what it says; a house of mice. Namely, the mouse version of most cult and geeky fandoms around, along with some other historical and notable figures. I don’t need to explain why they’re on the list; just look how cute they are! Featured above is Chewie (Star Wars), Dumbledore (Harry Potter) and Weeping Angel (Doctor Who).

AngryHairJewelry

This shop is one I have personally bought from (the gorgeous labradorite earrings in the first picture) and can attest to the beautiful craftsman ship. I love the designs of this shop and the variety of gemstones used. Pictures show Labradorite earrings, Turquoise bracelet and Tourmaline necklace.

5 Fandom Habits I Have [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Fandom habits

A day late due to the shocking events of yesterday, so today you’re going to get a bumper post of 5 fandom friday and sharing saturday (coming later!)

So this weeks prompt is fandom habits, and it was a tricky one because I wasn’t sure what to include – and then my brain went into overdrive and I had to cut it down to 5. Hope you enjoy 🙂

Getting emotionally invested

I’ve always been an emotional person, so it is no surprise that fandoms get the same treatment. I’ve been known to cry while watching/reading stuff, seeking cuddles after something happens and screaming at the TV. I’ve also avoided some books, mainly in the Star Wars EU because a character dies in it and I couldn’t bring myself to go there. It took me a long time to finish the New Jedi Order series thanks to that!

Further Reading

If I fall in love with a fandom I will devour any source of information I can get my hands on; books, comics, and so forth. I’ve been known to read through wiki’s and fansites for fandoms I’m interested in, but not a massive fan of, such as comic universes. There’s so much to cover that even when I get a chance to start reading, I’ll still never cover it all quick enough for my brain. The most notable fandoms are my two biggest; Star Wars and Warcraft/World of Warcraft, and it shows from my collections! I also started reading the Doctor Who new adventures novels a few years back and fell in love with those.

Collecting

Like emotional investments, I’ve always been a collector and so it also now applies to fandoms. Plushies, figurines, keyrings, trading cards, books/comics, video games, things in video games 😛 You get the idea 😀

Binge Watching

So this one isn’t unusual, however, I tend to binge watch shows that were around years ago and then swallow up every season. I especially do this with crime shows because I keep running out of current ones to watch. It’s also not uncommon for me to start a new show (at the time), such as Vampire Diaries or Once Upon a Time, and then pick them up years later. Yep, way behind with both of those but I know I’ll catch up eventually.

Bad Judgement

I have a terrible habit of loving the bad/treacherous characters and then oh crap, they’re evil!! Agents of SHIELD is the worst culprit for this (Whedon, I both love and hate you) and every time I watch that show now I’m like ‘please don’t be evil!’.
