5 Geeky Things on my Christmas Wishlist [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Christmas wishlish 2016

This weeks prompt was christmas songs, but as I did that last week I decided to pick one from previous years. You’re probably thinking, hey, didn’t you just post your wish list? Well, my holiday wishes list is a general one and this, this is the super duper fandom edition!

Books!

So my to read list is always growing and I’m pretty sure will never end, which I’m ok with. However, there are a few books on my wish list that I really want to read ASAP.

  1. Poison Fruit by Jacqueline Carey – She is one of my favourite authors but the libraries rarely have her books, so I usually get them as gifts as I like having a copy of them too. Last year I got the previous book in the series and this is the next one.
  2. Keeping it real by Justina Robson – I have never actually read anything by this author, but have been eyeing this book for a while now. It’s available at the library, however, the author is going to be at a convention I’m going to next year so I’d love a hard copy so I can get it signed if I enjoy the book.
  3. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – I was just going to pick this up at the library but decided that even if I’m not impressed with it (I’ve heard mixed reviews) it will still go with our collection 🙂
  4. Broken by Marianne Curley – Again, another favourite author of mine and again, so hard to get hold of her books from the library. This is the second book in her new series.

Funko Pops!

Goodness, it was hard to narrow this down to just these 6 and I may have got a bit lost on amazon browsing new ones… ahem.

  1. The Flash: Barry
  2. Star Wars Rebels: Hera
  3. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Agent May
  4. Agent Carter: Peggy
  5. Blizzard Games: Tyrael
  6. Disney: Belle

  2. Starcraft II Collectors Edition
  3. Bioshock I and 2 Remastered
  4. DLCs for Dragon Age: Inquisition

November Goals Recap

Monthly Goals November 2016

The end of the month is nigh and it’s time to look back over my monthly goals and see how I did!

Blogging

I feel quite content with how my blogging went this month, I upped my game but there’s still room for improvement. I need to get scheduling sorted for one, and I am so behind on commenting. So those will be priorities next month.

Youtube

I failed miserably. The new diet had me all over the place and proved to have some unseen difficulties (more below) so I’ve had a lot less time and energy than I expected.

World of Warcraft

Let’s see…

  • Finish my Demon Hunter campaign.
  • Finish my main’s profession levelling – Fishing is now maxed. It’s proving a lot harder to max everything else, so I think this is going to be a goal for several months
  • Complete a full set of Illusion Books (enchanting) for me and Chris.
  • Finish off Broken Isles achievements for killing rares. (Apparently I’d actually already done this :P)
  • Start levelling my druid with Chris – She should be 110 in the next few days!
  • Start levelling my mage solo – Haven’t even started her 🙁
  • Do the dungeon profession quests on my Demon Hunter and Monk – Demon hunter done (and new ones found), but my monk I slacked on big time. I think I’m just going to leave her for now and concentrate on other characters as she is my bank character.

New Desk Set Up

It’s done and mostly set up 😀 I still need to move my make up from the bathroom into the new desk because I can’t do my make up in the bathroom. This is because I’m really short sighted (like -20 -20 seriously) and our mirror is above the sink… I need a mirror right in front of my face. So sitting down at my new desk with everything nearby works so much better for me.

I do have some pictures though!

New Diet

So the new diet has been tricky, and not due to the food. The food prep, especially for breakfast has been difficult for me when my body has decided it doesn’t want to behave. I’ve gotten into a routine, been trying new recipes and finding ones I really enjoy. I’ve also lost 9-10lbs already which seems unreal. I’ve been eating less, been much less hungry between meals and have noticed other good side effects too. My skin is much clearer, other health stuff seems better too.

However, I’ve been really nauseous a lot and I don’t think it’s due to the diet, like I said, I’m not feeling hungry so no feeling light headed etc. I think it’s a part of whatever weird random gland hurting illness that I’ve now had for over a year. My glands have also been getting worse, and sore more often :-/

Work on a Project

Nada, zilch. I was pretty sure that would be the case.

There may also be…

I totally failed on reviews and tutorials, but did get some Bioshock Infinite in!

So that was my month; how did yours go? Did you meet your goals? You may have noticed that I’m not beating myself up for missing stuff and that is important. Remember that when looking back at your own goals and lists 🙂

December goals coming soon!

5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Fandoms I'm thankful for

5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy is easily the fandom I am most thankful for because it saved my life. Many times over. That isn’t me being dramatic. My teenage years were difficult, I was bullied a lot, and started suffering from depression without even realising. It was a dark time, and the many lessons of Buffy not only got me through it but helped me be stronger. Later during an emotionally abusive relationship I picked up the self help book What would Buffy do? and despite the cheesy name it is a very good read. This is still my go to show when I feel absolutely miserable and like the world is ending because I’m thankful that Buffy taught me that even when the world is ending, you can still fight and win.

5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For - Star Wars

Star Wars

My number 1 fandom, and this is the one that started it all. I don’t think I would be into as many fandoms, or into the sci fi and fantasy genre if I hadn’t fallen in love with Star Wars. It has given me so much joy (and tears) over the years and continues to do so. It also taught me just how far our imagination can go, so I’m thankful for Star Wars teaching me that our imagination is endless.

5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For - Kushiel's Legacy

Kushiel Legacy

These novels by Jacqueline Carey helped me to recognise a side of myself as genuine and right, not wrong and something to be afraid or ashamed of. There is so much strength in the protagonist, Phedre, and it is beautiful and incomparable. I’m thankful for having my eyes open to new possibilities and being taught to love as thou wilt.

5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For - Doctor Who

Doctor Who

It was hard to pick the 5th fandom for this list, and in the end I chose Doctor Who because it has opened so many doors for me. It has broadened my horizons, and led me to find the wonderful talents of so many actors and authors. Without it I’d have never gotten to know the work of the amazing John Barrowman, and the lovely Elizabeth Saden who sadly passed away in 2011. I’m thankful for Doctor Who introducing me to many wonderful individuals and characters.

5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For - World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

Gods, how do I explain how much this game has done for me in my life? It has been a bumping road, with many breaks and issues and yet it has given me so much in return. It has helped me learn that even if I’m sick, I can still do something productive and not feel entirely useless. It was the first video game that I could actually play, and led to me becoming a gamer and a youtuber. It has given me so many friends and some crazy guild meets, and of course, my amazing and loving fiancé of 9 years. I’m thankful for World of Warcraft bringing light, friendship, healing and love into my life.

5 Gateway Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am Today [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Fandoms that made me who I am

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged and posted a Fandom 5. I was away on a personal break for 3 weeks and then I’ve been sick since coming back. Sadly Fandom 5 hit a slump as it’s not been updated for new topics, but some of us over at Geek Girls Bloggers have been heading back to some old topics because we love Fandom 5! This is technically last weeks topic as neither of this weeks appealed to me and this one kept sneaking back in my thoughts.

sw

I can’t remember the exact age I was when I saw my first Star Wars movie, I was about 7-10 and it was Return of the Jedi. It stuck with me for years until I got my dad the movie boxset for fathers day when I was about 12/13… my dad never actually saw them, they began to live permanently in my room and I became obsessed with them. It was my first fandom, and I started reading the EU books then as well.

buffy

Buffy came a few years after my Star Wars love affair began, when I was about 14-15 and again it became a huge fandom in my life at that point. It is still one of my most watched tv show, and I still love it. It’s my go to show when I feel crap and need a pick me up, or need to be reminded that even when it’s dark there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This fandom got me into writing fanfic, roleplaying and so much more.

nw

Around the same time I started reading the Night World series by LJSmith, and this was my first book fandom. It really opened my eyes into world building, leading onto more roleplaying and fanfic and just how much was out there in the world of urban fantasy and young adult fiction.

tortall

Tamora Pierce was my first foray into fantasy, again opening paths into so much more fandoms and fantasy worlds that I’ve read since. I became involved with the Sheroes forum, as well as new roleplay adventures, and this one generally got me more into the whole fandom community thing rather than being something personal to me.

wow

World of Warcraft came so much later than the others, but with it came my love for video games which was a gateway into a whole new world of fandoms. Dragon Age, Bioshock, Guild Wars, Diablo.. and so many more.
