My Goals for August

Monthly Goals - August

Last time I got one of these done was June and then about a week later I had the flu. I’m now back on the blogging bandwagon and ready to get organised! Yeah, it’s half way through August already but I needed to do this, needed to put things into perspective and work out where I want to go this month. I’ve just started a new physio course called ‘Moving into Balance’ which essentially is an hour of theory/planning and then 30 mins of exercise. The aim is to help me find a baseline and start working to avoid boom and bust days, i.e. a good day followed by a bad day, and to stabilise my energy levels. One thing we’ve been asked to do is mindfully plan where we want our days to go, so I’m going to use this monthly post as a larger way to keep myself on track.

Personal

At the moment I’m taking it easy with some things, such as my diet, because flu majorly screwed a lot of stuff up. Last week was also hard due to appointments and other things going on, so I’ve had to recover a bit from that too. This week there’s just my physio so it’s get back on track time with planning, projects, and schedules. Hopefully by the start of September I’ll be back on track!

Dissertation

I am currently sitting at half way through my 20k word limit for my first rough draft. I think I have something like 6 months or something before the next exam board (as long as my continuation of studies is accepted), aka my new deadline, but I want it done before that. My physio’s throwing me through a loop at the moment, so taking my time and building my strength up to get back into writing again.

Projects

  • Blogging – Top of my list is to get back to blogging and schedule posts a month or more in advance! I already started by prepping my monthly goals posts and making up transmog sets for several weeks.

  • Directory Updates – Thanks to Photobucket’s ridiculous changes all my buttons for my directories have been messed up and it coincided of course with the flu. So I’m still playing catch up and several are a mess. Not to mention way overdue to a link check.

  • Gallery Updates – I officially finished the gallery move, now I just need to add my latest screenshots and do some admin stuff.

  • Bullet Journal – I want to use my bullet journal to track my energy levels, so I need to implement that and catch up with some other bits.

World of Warcraft

I don’t want to overdo things since there is only a few weeks left of August so just a few things;

  • Finish Death Knight Artifact Quest
  • Finish Death Knight Campaign
  • Complete Death Knight Mount Questline
  • Try for Mage Hidden Artifact skin
  • Obtain Trial of Style Sets
  • Collect Inscription Recipes from Raids & Dungeons

5 Geeky Goals for 2017 [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - 2017 goals

I’m still playing catch up after the holidays so this is a few days late! As I’m going to be doing two other goal related posts, one for the new year and one for January, I decided to use this prompt to look at specifically fandom and nerdy related things I want to do in 2017.

Video Games

While World of Warcraft is usually my primary game, I do have a variety of games sitting around waiting for me to play. Chris and I often get stuff cheap in steam sales or Humble Bundles, as well as snatching up free games from Origin and Uplay. Last year I did terribly at finishing or even starting these games so 2017 I’m planning to finish 6 games. That’s 1 every 2 months roughly. I’m also planning to do more youtube stuff, for WoW and possibly other games!

Reading

I use Goodreads to track my reading and challenge myself to read so many every year. It keeps going up each year, with last year’s challenge being revised three times. I failed the third time, which is this years target of 300. I want to try to focus on finishing old series before I start new ones so I’ll be grabbing stuff from my local libraries and book mooch to finish those up (or get up to date). I also want to make my way through my massive amount of kindle books I’ve picked up for free from indie authors, so I’m going to be making ‘Book Bingo cards’ for some months. Here’s my January one!

Films

I’ve decided on a few film related goals for 2017, starting with watching every film we own. I’ve seen most of them, however, some I’ve slacked on and some were Chris’ before we got together and after almost 10 years together I still haven’t watched them. I also recall a conversation at uni last year with my classmates discussing ‘classic’ films, like A Clockwork Orange, and they were quite appalled at how many I’ve not seen. So I’m planning to remedy that! My idea of classic is probably not the same as everyone’s, and while there will be some old films from the 60’s and 70’s, I probably won’t be going much earlier. On top of these two goals, I want to catch up on films of some of my favourite actors. Some of them are no longer with us (Carrie Fisher, Robin Williams), while others (Harrison Ford) I’ve seen a lot of, but there’s still some I’ve not watched. Those are the few I can think of and will be my starting place for now!

Bullet Journal

I messed around with a notebook type bullet journal last year and found that having a nice bullet journal with a to do list for each week just doesn’t work for me. Incorporating the two just got messy and meant that I couldn’t keep things neat. So instead, that notebook is for notes and my weekly planner. I’ve bought a new, proper, dotted journal to keep an actual bullet journal for 2017.

Online Projects

2016 was a woefully fulfilling year for online projects, with my focusing on my Msc and my blog. I don’t have any major plans for new layouts for 2017, unless inspiration strikes, but I would like to change a few things around. Namely, my personal site photo gallery which doesn’t work and hasn’t for aggges. I want to move it to another script, and do the same with my screenshot and scan gallery. Speaking of scans; I have loads that need editing and made into png and brush packs for deviantArt. I’ve been slacking and would like to try to get into one a month. I have also been contemplating getting back into the fanlistings world for a while now. I left due to drama, but I’ve changed and I don’t think I’m going to take everything so seriously any more. I don’t intent to go crazy, just start out small and go from there.

Finally, I’ve been working on a big project that will either work really well or just collapse on itself. I started work on it a few years ago and it’s slowly bugging me that it’s still in limbo. I want to get it launched this year!

What do you think? Anything strike your fancy? I’ll be posting updates throughout the year so stay tuned 🙂

5 Awesome Website Cliques To Join

Sharing Saturday: website cliques

Fandom Friday is on a break for May so no Fandom 5 this week, however, I will be choosing some old topics to complete for the next couple of Fridays.

This week sharing Saturday is focusing on website cliques – the word clique has a lot of bad connotations, however, in this case, it is a positive one. According to dictionary.com a clique can be defined as “Informal. to form, or associate in a clique“. A website is literally that; a group formed due to an association with something. In this case, website cliques come in all different colours and flavours. You would apply to join one, be listed as a member and link back to the clique on your site to show your membership. Cliques were mainly popular about 10 + years ago but they’ve been making a comeback, and they’re a great way to meet new people and get some more visitors to your site. They can be for anything, from a love of a certain thing, to claim sites such as my Bookworms Clique (claim your favourite book and show your love for reading) and Level Up! (show your inner gamer and claim anything from a video game), or for a particular cause to show awareness, like Fighting Everyday a clique for invisible illnesses.

So today I want to introduce you to 5 website cliques that I think are awesome. You can view more cliques and other ‘joinables’ over at Webmaster Links. Joinables are basically anything a webmaster/blogger can join in return for popping up a code/button/link back on their site.

Just can't get enough clique

Just Can’t get Enough

Food Clique

Food is one of those universal things that everyone has in common, whether you’re a chocolate lover or have a thing for apples, it unites us all.

dearestDearest

One True Pairing (OTP)

Not everyone has an OTP, but it is a common idea in most fandoms and that is why I love this clique. Again it brings people together and it’s a great way of celebrating your fandom.

Dimension cliqueDimension

Nintendo DS

While I’m not a DS player, I know that it is very popular and this clique has such cute little pixels for you to use to link back with!

Patron - Mythology CliquePatron

Folklore/Mythology

Patron is one of the oldest cliques still active and is for anyone who has an interest in mythology or folklore. You join and list a guardian of your website.

Soul Sisters cliqueSolstice

Princess Claim

This is a claim clique in which you choose a princess to protect. It isn’t limited to only disney princeses, so any princess from any fandom can be chosen!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little peak into the world of website cliques and hope you’ll enjoy exploring the world of cliques as much as I do! 🙂

Mini-Review and Updates

Reviews so far 2016

February is nearly here and with it brings the official start of SPILL the beans, my new monthly blog content. Each month I’ll be posting at least 5 different topics which you can read more about in this entry. I’ve been preparing content for it, but in the mean time here’s a mini review of the nail polishes (introduced here) that I’ve tried so far.

IMG_1579IMG_1587

I originally tried the purple one first on the right in this image. Unfortunately it seems that it had been either previously opened or never closed properly. It was a pain to open and when I finally got it open the nail varnish was very gloopy and not at all smooth. Worried that this was a sign that the polishes were bad, I tried another colour; the navy blue above. It went on a lot smoother and I had no issues with it. It’s a bit messy because not long after painting them, when I thought they were fully dry, I ended up doing something which messed them up. It does smell very strong – which doesn’t bother me, but my fiancé isn’t too happy 😛

Round 2, I chose this coffee cream colour which I absolutely love. It is such a cute colour and the polish covered really well. There’s a slightly darker colour (see photo above) that I wanted to try badly, however, this one won out.

So far they have been great. I need to try another shimmer rather than a matte one, as the purple was a shimmer one. I have 43 more colours to try so plenty of time 😀 Don’t forget to check out all 48 and tell me what shade you think I should try next!

I really want to try out some of the new make up samples and products I got for Christmas, I’ve just not been feeling up to it. I finally got back to uni yesterday! Today I suffered for it, but the hardest part is done! I am so happy to get back, and the fact that my first class was on CSS made it even more fantastic. I’ve been building and learning how to create websites since I was 13. I started very basic on Homestead with a click and drag editor, and slowly learned how to code myself. Until recently I’ve never really considered myself a coder; there are so many more talented people that I know and I rely on copy and paste a lot. Yet speaking to my fellow students and watching my lecturer teach us the basics of css, well, I guess I am a coder. I might lack the confidence to go code something other than my own websites, however, I know enough that I could do our group project on my own.

I’ve actually been doing a lot of work on my websites recently. I run various ones, including some web cliques and website directories. You can view all my sites here and my latest designs are; Project Clique (a clique promotion site & directory) and Seductive Directory (a website listing for fantasy and supernatural sites).

5 Favorite Ways to Netflix and Chill [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Netflix & chill

I am notorious for not being able to sit still. I have to be doing something, especially if I’m watching something. I very rarely can just sit still or lay in bed watching stuff, and hate doing it when I’m ill. So here’s what I get up to while I’m watching netflix etc.

1. Blogging!

I’m currently catching up on the last CSI episode, Immortality, (very overdue!) as I write this. I find it easy to write blog posts or other online material while watching things, however, when it comes to creative writing or uni work I have to switch it off.

2. Gaming

If I’m playing an MMO or an easy game, like a puzzle game or facebook game, I like to have something on in the background. Most of the stuff I do in MMO’s like WoW is easy repetition that me and my fiancé joking refer to as ‘mind-numbing’ (it isn’t actually that bad, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to keep doing it). You need to pay attention to stuff but you don’t need to be give it your full attention. It makes grinding activities such as farming, leveling and, omg, fishing in WoW, so so much easier to do.

3. Website Design

I run a variety of websites and quite often will redesign a site while watching stuff. Yesterday while working my way through series 2 of Chicago P.D. I designed and updated Project Clique, my website clique promotion site which includes a directory for cliques.

4. Scanning and editing scans.

I love to scan things to use for graphics and I like to share them with others. I’m currently working my way through a large amount of craft materials from my mum. There’s also random papers, calendars and cards. You can find some already uploaded at my scan and screenshot gallery.

5. Various other online activities

I’m always online, browsing, looking at things, posting on social media and so forth. I spend a lot of time on deviant art browsing art and collecting resources, for example. Basically I am always doing something 😛
