10 things on my Birthday Wish List!

10 Things on my Birthday Wish List (2018)

It’s my birthday in a week (9th October!) and for once I’ve actually remembered to do a birthday related post! I decided to start out simple and give you guys a glimpse of what is on my birthday wish list. Being an October baby I pretty much spend most of the year planning for my birthday and Christmas, and then rinse and repeat again the next year. Our anniversary is also in October so I can’t even use that as an excuse for some goodies either! It does mean that by the time October rolls around I have a solid idea of what I want and any impulse buys have long lost their luster.

Blog Domain Name

1. Blog Domain Name

It is finally time to move this blog to it’s own domain! It’s a big step with lots of SEO bits and bobs (and probably a massive headache), but it needs to be done and to be honest, I want it done! I wouldn’t say I’ve been putting it off, but rather it just didn’t feel like the right time before. Now the blog feels much more grounded and it’s grown into what I wanted it to be. It’s time πŸ™‚

iphone Camera Lens Kit

2. Iphone Camera Lens Kit

Ideally a new camera would be great, however, the next step for me would be a dslr camera which I don’t actually know how to use properly! Chris has one and he’s happy to let me use it and, more importantly, teach me how to use it. So there is little point in me investing in a camera right now. I do have my own camera but it’s so outdated that my iphone actually gives me far better quality photos so I’ve been investing in equipment for that. My first was this fantastic tripod which has been so valuable. I can use it as a “selfie” stick or I can use it as a tripod – and it’s got bendy legs so I can put it at weird angles for photos or wrap it around anything. This lens kit would give me everything I really want from a dslr camera without having to pay for one and without needing to learn all the technical settings, which I have to admit my ME brain fogged mind is struggling with. There are more expensive options but I’d prefer to try a cheaper option and see how it works and then upgrade at a later date.

L'Oreal Smooth Sugar Nourish Cocoa Face And Lip Scrub

3. L’Oreal Smooth Sugar Scrub

As I reported in my last Sample Shoutout I received a sample of this and absolutely fell in love it. It has been the only product I’ve ever found to help me with one of my beauty problems so getting hold of a full sized tub of the Nourish Cocoa Face And Lip Scrub has been a priority since I tried it!

Calligraphy pen set and ink cartridges

4. Calligraphy Pens

Last Christmas I got a huge haul of bullet journal goodies from The Works and they were all great! I got a small calligraphy pen set and while I haven’t really been using it for calligraphy per say I have swapped to writing with them. The problem is that I want to use all the inks and all the colours and I have just one pen. The set had three nibs and just one pen. So this time I’m upping my game and eyeing up this Sheaffer Calligraphy set which comes with three pens not just the nibs. This means I can have multiple inks on the go without having to swap nibs or worry about them drying out. I still have plenty of ink cartridges left, however, the pack was not well balanced in colours so I’m also going to get a pack of cartridges by the Manuscript Pen Company Creative. They’ve had great reviews and have some nifty colours that my other pack didn’t have!

5. Nail Polishes

My nail polish collection is dying. The only new additions it has had in years have been courtesy of my mother in law who has either bought be colours that aren’t my cup of tea or the same colour of turquoise in about 5 different shades (I’m not joking). The problem is that I don’t really have the money to go on a full on nail polish shopping spree – especially not if I get everything else on this list. So I’ve had to think about it and I’ve come up with a few solutions; nail polish subscription boxes such as the two pictured above (Mani and Lola and MeeBox), a decent nail polish advent calendar this year (I’ve yet to decide on which one), buy an advent calendar from a previous year for a discounted price (such as this Technic Advent Calendar) and buy some gift sets or bulk sets of nail polish (such as this Rimmel London nail polish set). There’s also Primark and a few of the pound shops/discount shops that have started doing their own Beauty lines which are getting some great reviews so I’m going to check those out too. Hopefully by the end of that I should have a good start to a collection again!

Washi Tape

6. Washi Tape

Yep, I am a Washi Tape addict and my small meagre collection just doesn’t cut it any more. The time has come to invest in some more beautiful sets such as this gorgeous Starry Sky Washi tape set from 812 Journal. I much prefer to get sets like this at this stage so that I can build up a decent collection and then I can add individual tapes later on.

7. Mantaray Purse

Mantaray Embroidered Hummingbird Purse

I’m not really a big purse fan, or someone who buys them a lot – bags on the other hand I am really bad with especially when I’m on holiday. I don’t tend to find bags in my style until I go abroad to Europe or visit markets over here and then I want to buy them ALL. But purses I have a hard time finding one I like and so when I finally found a brand I liked I stuck with it. I think this will be my third Mantaray purse now and I literally wear them to death; my current one is falling to pieces. What I love about them is that they’re actually embroidered so you get that real texture feel rather than a plastically feel like some purses/wallets, and it’s just the right size for what I want. And Mantaray as a brand fits with my boho nature loving style too, and I just fell in love with the colours and design of this embroidered Hummingbird purse by them. I usually get my watches by them as well, and while I really need a new watch too my purse is literally falling apart and thus makes this list!

The Wet Brush Flex Dry Hair Brush Ombre

8. Wet Brush Hair Brushes

I’ve slowly been upgrading my beauty supplies, moving from cheaper versions to more professional and higher quality alternatives. So far I’ve upgraded my tweezers and my nail files and now it’s time for my hair brushes. I’ve been eyeing up the brand Wet Brushes for a while, and although I like their standard brush I think I’m actually going to go with these two instead. One is their Flex Dry Hair Brush which is designed to help you dry your hair as you brush it. I use two hair brushes; my usual hair brush and then an older one for when I’ve had a shower. My hair is so thick that if I use my normal hair brush to brush through my hair when it’s wet I just soak my brush. This wonderful invention though helps your hair dry as you use it and as I air dry my hair that makes it super useful for me! I’m also going to get their Shine Hair Brush as my normal brush as it has boar bristles and is a bit bigger than their standard brush – great for someone with long thick hair like mine!

DvDs or a NowTV Subscription

9. DVDs or NowTV Subscription

We are so behind on films, that there’s a lot of movie DVDs on my wish list – but as I’m also so behind on TV shows I’m  weighing up buying the movies on DVD against buying a NowTV subscription for a month. It might be cheaper and easier to do that so I can see all the movies and also get caught up on TV shows at the same time. We’re about four movies behind in the Marvel Cinematic universe, I’ve still not seen Solo and there’s loads of other movies like Oceans 8 too. While I’d love to be able to splash out and get them all on DVD it’s just realistically possible and as you can see this is down at #9 on my list so it’s not that high on my priorities either.

Miscealleous Beauty Products

10. Beauty Products

Thanks to my big beauty prize win most of my beauty needs are covered for a very long time, however, there’s a few things that are mainly every day restocks that I need. I was sent my first face oil as a product tester and it did wonders for my skin, and sadly, I finished it πŸ™ So looking for a new replacement I’m going to try one from Revolution’s new skincare range. Namely their Skin Plumping & Hydrating Solution with 2% Hyaluronic Acid which is very close (if not the same) as the product I was testing just without the brand name and thus the massive price tag. Another product replacement for the same tester panel is B. Brightening Fruit Acid Cleanser. I’m not sure if this is exactly what I’m looking for, however, it’s the closest match I could find so I’m going to give it ago first. I absolutely love Cucumber Cooling Eye Pads for when my eyes are sore and tired and need to stock up on some new ones.

And then the other two products on my list are two new items that are treats for myself that I have been eyeing up for a while now! One is L’OrΓ©al’s Infallible Total Cover Concealer Palette. I was going to go the full hog and get their foundation too, however, I’ve found that BB cream works so much better for me and I’ve also fallen in love with Garnier’s Skin Active BB Cream so there is no point in me getting another foundation I won’t use. I’ve heard great things about the coverage of this range and I want to try it out because my other colour correct palette is beginning to run out.

The other product is ALINICE Hair colouring material which is a form of styling wax  but coloured! I’m not quite ready to go the full bleach and dye route yet but I want to play around with some streaks and have some fun so I’m going to get a pot of this in purple. There’s some really mixed reviews and to be honest, I’m not too fussed if the product isn’t great as it’s only Β£9.99. I just want to see how I look with purple hair and decide if it’s something I want to do one day.

5 Geeky Things on my Christmas Wishlist [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Christmas wishlish 2016

This weeks prompt was christmas songs, but as I did that last week I decided to pick one from previous years. You’re probably thinking, hey, didn’t you just post your wish list? Well, my holiday wishes list is a general one and this, this is the super duper fandom edition!

Books!

So my to read list is always growing and I’m pretty sure will never end, which I’m ok with. However, there are a few books on my wish list that I really want to read ASAP.

  1. Poison Fruit by Jacqueline Carey – She is one of my favourite authors but the libraries rarely have her books, so I usually get them as gifts as I like having a copy of them too. Last year I got the previous book in the series and this is the next one.
  2. Keeping it real by Justina Robson – I have never actually read anything by this author, but have been eyeing this book for a while now. It’s available at the library, however, the author is going to be at a convention I’m going to next year so I’d love a hard copy so I can get it signed if I enjoy the book.
  3. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – I was just going to pick this up at the library but decided that even if I’m not impressed with it (I’ve heard mixed reviews) it will still go with our collection πŸ™‚
  4. Broken by Marianne Curley – Again, another favourite author of mine and again, so hard to get hold of her books from the library. This is the second book in her new series.

Funko Pops!

Goodness, it was hard to narrow this down to just these 6 and I may have got a bit lost on amazon browsing new ones… ahem.

  1. The Flash: Barry
  2. Star Wars Rebels: Hera
  3. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Agent May
  4. Agent Carter: Peggy
  5. Blizzard Games: Tyrael
  6. Disney: Belle

Holiday Wishes 2016

Christmas Wishes 2016

For several years now I’ve taken part in the livejournal community Holiday Wishes. To sum it up quickly; it’s a place where you post your wishes, and others post theirs and you help each other out by doing what you can. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to reply, to comment, or send you a sweet card to make someone’s December a little bit easier. It can be a very stressful month in many ways and 2016 has been an awful year in many respects.

So hop on over to Holiday Wishes to read the rules and check out other people’s lists and make someone’s day just a little bit brighter!

STEP ONE

  • Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered… whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related (“I’d love a Snape/Hermione icon that’s just for me”) to medium (“I wish for _____ on DVD”) to really big (“All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV”). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
  • If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!
  • Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO

  • Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here’s the important part…
  • If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes one person’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use – or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free – do it.
  • You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to be someone else’s holiday elf – to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not – it’s your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just… wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.

My List

1 – Check out my blog,  leave me some comments and maybe volunteer for an interview? πŸ˜‰ This year I’ve been upping my blogging game, adding new features and generally giving it a big reboot. So I’d love for you to check it out and leave some comments <3 I also have a monthly interview feature which I need volunteers for; you can find out more about that on my blog under ‘interviews’ in the main menu πŸ™‚

2 – Follow me on Social MediaTwitter, Facebook Page, Instagram, Pinterest and Blog Lovin all need some love and I like meeting new people!

3 – Icons – I use icons over on my blog and would love some new ones. Credit will be given at the end of each post when I use one of your icons. What I would like; TV shows (Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, DC Shows [especially some cute Barry ones!], Supernatural, Rizzoli & Isles), Animals (I love any animals so surprise me!), Christmas/Winter, Seasons & holidays (some for each season as well as holidays – I’m in the UK), Nature, Video Games (World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age series), Star Wars (especially The Force Awakens, I’ve had no time to make them), and geeky/library/book ones.

4 – Send me something! – I love receiving things and collect post cards, key rings and magnets. I’d love to receive a care package or a little goodies as I’ve never received one before. I like candles, geeky stuff, and cats. I have no allergies, but I’m currently on a strict diet so no food items please (as much as it grieves me to say :P).  I do feel that I need to be upfront and say I can’t send anything in return πŸ™ Instead I will return my love by finding something on your list I can do for you! Please contact me for my address.

5 – Art – I am loathe to expect anyone to do art for me for free, which is why I want to emphasise that this would be a truly magical and much loved gift. I know how hard artists work, and so this is a shout out to anyone who feels inspired or would like the practise. I’d love some sketches, cartoon or chibi style of me (for my blog) or my World of Warcraft character Kaelea.

6 – Second hand books – I really shouldn’t add to my already long reading list, but I can’t help myself πŸ˜› If you’re in the UK and happen to have any old books lying around that you don’t want please check out my Goodreads to read list (I’ll accept digital copies as well in any format). Or if you use bookmooch and have some spare points, that would be great too!

7 – Youtube Subs – I took a massive step this year and started a youtube channel. Health has prevented me from updating it in a while, however, I still have everything recorded and waiting to edit so it will be revived (soon hopefully!). Any subscribers or views would be great, comments if you’re a WoW player would be fantastic too.

8 – Unused make-up or beauty products/samples – I have slowly been growing my collection of make up and beauty products so that I can start posting reviews and tutorials on my blogs. So if you have anything lying around that you don’t want/use, like free samples you’ve picked up or gotten from magazines, I’d love them! Due to hygiene reasons I can only accept sealed items, with the exception of nail polish.

9 – Amazon Wish List – Anything on my wish list would be absolutely amazing <3

10 – Gift Cards – For Starbucks, Steam or Birchbox are top of the list, but any others (UK friendly!) are always welcome too.

Do you take part in Holiday Wishes too? Post your list in the comments so I can check it out! <3

Holiday Wish List

Holiday Wishes

I’ve taken part in this awesome community a few times now. It’s called Holiday Wishes and it’s a place to post a wish list of various things and random people take the time to make you smile. The rules are below, followed by my own wish list. If you have one please leave a comment with it so I can see if I can make your wishes come true!

You’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.

The List

2015 has been full of ups and downs and has now left me with glandular fever as a fun end of year present. So yes, I am feeling sorry for myself πŸ˜€ This wish list is a mixture of things and honestly, anything would be appreciated. I’m just looking for things to make me smile while I grit my teeth and work through the lovely fun pain and fatigue.

1. Make me something! πŸ™‚ Graphics wise I’d love new icons or wallpapers (Star Wars, World of Warcraft, Doctor Who, Supernatural and animals would be top of the list), or if you’re so inclined new buttons or layouts for my poor neglected websites. Or if you’re a writer I’d love someone to make a story surrounding my main World of Warcraft character. And artists, again I’d love some art of my main World of Warcraft character Kaelea (I love pixel art, I’m not a huge fan of anime but I do like chibi’s). Anything made will be credited and plugged the hell out of, I appreciate creative genius a lot.

2. Send me something – Cards, letters, postcards or items such as keyrings, nail varnishes and magnets which I collect. Anything would be great.

3. Books – Ebooks, second hand books, any that are listed on my to read list here. Suggestions for free ebooks or sites that track them are also appreciated. While I normally love book suggestions I am going to ask not to recieve them – as you can see my to read list is massive and I really don’t need help making it even longer πŸ˜›

4. Anything from my amazon wish list – the list can be found here.

5. Library stuff –  I’m a library and information studies student and I’d love to hear about anything library related from your area. This helps me learn more and expand my knowledge of librarymanship.

6. Followers! I like meeting new people and in the new year I hope to be more active blogging (follow me on bloglovin?) and on social networks/sites such as deviant art. Sadly due to health and uni work I can’t always promise to update my LJ or comment regularly, but you’re welcome to add me here too.I also launched my professional/public twitter and would love to meet new people, especially anyone working/with an interest in library studies or fellow spoonies/invisible illness sufferers. Or just geeks in general πŸ˜€

7. Show me your pets! I love animals and photos of animals, especially ridiculously cute ones always put a smile on my face.

8. Speaking of pets…. I am an avid pet collector in World of Warcraft. On the off chance you play in the EU realms and have some pets spare that I need, I’d love to give them a new home πŸ™‚

9. Do you have a website or a blog? Join my websites – I run two website cliques (Fighting Everyday and Bookworms) and several website listings – Star Wars sites, Any Sites, Video Game sites, Supernatural & Fantasy sites.

10. And finally; if you know someone who suffers from an illness or a disability, mental or physical, take the time to send them a message or ask how they are doing. Maybe they won’t want to talk, but just knowing that someone cares enough to think to ask/check can make a world of difference.
