5 songs that remind me of a tv episode or movie

Songs that remind me of TV Shows & Movies

Oh wow this was a HARD prompt to narrow down. I pick up a lot of music from tv shows and movies, and every time I thought I had this list completed I’d remember another one! I’m sure I’m missing some major ones, and had to physically stop myself going through my entire music library to check for more songs!

Fall from Grace

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I love this song, but I cannot listen to it without seeing the end of season 2 scene play out and imagine just how Buffy must have felt. There are no words to describe that pain, and it’s one of those moments when you need to let music do the talking.

Goodbye to You

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I love Michelle Branch as an artist, and once again Joss and the Buffy team paired up an unbelievably emotional moment with music to express what was happening. The words are so poignant, “Goodbye to you, Goodbye to everything that I knew, You were the one I loved, The one thing that I tried to hold onto” and really capture the difficult decision that Tara has to make to help the one she loves and herself.

Carry on my Wayward Son

Supernatural

I don’t think any Supernatural fan can listen to this song and a) not be reminded of the show and c) not sing along automatically. The band was a bit before my time so I didn’t know them or the song before the show, and I have a very sweet memory of Chris and I bonding when we first got together over this song. We were talking, found out we both loved the show and yeah, the rest is history πŸ˜€

Accidentally in Love

Shrek 2

This song just fits so perfectly with that scene in Shrek 2 and I absolutely love the lyrics and sentiments to it. Sometimes love sneaks up on you, and sometimes you’re not looking for it and you end up just giving in to the strawberry ice cream love.

My Immortal

Daredevil

I was a fan of Evanescence before watching this film, however, this song wasn’t one of my favourites. It didn’t do anything for me. Then I watched Daredevil and the funeral scene… and was in tears. The words of the song came to life for me and ever since it has had meaning for me.

So as you can see songs that remind me of tv shows and movies usually have a specific moment and place in that show/movie. I don’t really tend to have random songs that remind me of shows very much, unless they have a very specific theme. For example, Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down automatically conjures images of Smallville because you know… kyrptonite. It also reminds me of Supernatural because there’s a line in the song that says ‘dark side of the moon’ and that’s the name of an episode!

What about you? Randomness or poignant moments?

Geeky Girl Tag

The Geeky Girl Tag
I love surveys, memes, challenges – anything that asks me to answer things that I haven’t thought up myself. I’ll often repost those ‘ask me…’ graphics on twitter and instagram to see what people come up with. So when I saw this geeky girl tag answered by Kitten at The Howling Wolfheart I had to jump in!
The tag is originally by Cassie at ZombieGoddess Beauty and she has also done a Gamer Tag too!

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?

Once upon a time I would have said it was my PC, however, after a year of having my tablet it wins this award. I love how much I can do on my tablet, how I can read books, comics, play games, leave myself notes, social media and so on. Only thing I don’t use it for is blogging, I much prefer an actual keyboard for typing.

2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?

I am in Ravenclaw! You can read more about my life in the HP universe in this post from 5 Fandom Friday’s Potter month last year πŸ™‚

3. Who is your favourite Doctor?

10! I do love all the other new Doctors (sorry, I’ve not watched any older stuff yet!) in their own way but the first one that springs to mind will always be David Tennant’s Doctor πŸ™‚

4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

I would probably go with someone old, wise and immortal who has travelled and seen so much. I think the Doctor or Captain Jack would be awesome, and likewise, Yoda too.

5. What is your gaming system of choice?

PC πŸ™‚ Consoles hurt my fingers πŸ™

6. If you had a super power, what would it be?

Healing; as a spoonie the idea of being able to ease someone’s pain sounds like the best superpower of all to me.

7. What is your favourite fantasy world?

One, just one? Oh man… I’m sorry, I can’t pick just one. It would be a toss up between Azeroth (World of Warcraft), Tortall (Tamora Pierce’s novels) and Terre D’Ange (Jacqueline Carey’s novels)!

8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?

Twi’lek! I love Twi’leks so much, they’re beautiful, graceful and I could be purple!

9. Star Trek or Star Wars?

Pft… you need to ask? πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰

10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV Series.

I’m going to go with TV Shows:
  • Supernatural
  • Eureka
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Scorpion
  • Bones
11. List your top 5 favourite video games.
  • Β World of Warcraft
  • Dragon Age (whole series)
  • Fable III
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • Guild Wars 2

Tagging

Β I don’t have anyone in particular in mind, I’m late to the party so many people have already done it! So please tag yourself and let me know in the comments if you take part πŸ™‚

4 Fandom Spin Off Book Series You Need to Read

Geek Blogs Unite - Between The Pages Theme

There’s no formal FF5 prompts this month so I’ll be filling in with a few old ones and some other topics. This week it’s time for another theme over at Geek Blogs Unite and this time it’s Between the Pages. After hearing about the new series of spin off novels for Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Kiersten White it got me thinking about spin off series for TV Shows, Video Games and Movies. If you’ve not heard about the new series, the protagonist is one of the Potential Slayers who was chosen in the final episode of the show. I’ve only read one of White’s books and thoroughly enjoyed it so I’m really curious to read this new series.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I mostly read Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin off novels when I was in my teens, and while I don’t remember a lot of them, the one series that stuck in my head and remains a firm favourite is The Gatekeeper Trilogy by Christopher Golden. It was one of the first series in spin off novels, and the books were also a lot longer. That plus a fantastic and imaginative storyline makes them a great read!

World of Warcraft

Where do I even begin… I guess I should let you know that I’ve not yet read a spin off novel that I didn’t enjoy. Most of the novels fill in gaps in the lore (usually events leading up to the next game expansion), or tell the story of past events that aren’t in game. I started with the Warcraft Archive which is an anthology of short stories, and then moved onto the War of the Ancients Trilogy which remains one of my favourite series to date. If you’re a lore junkie I really recommend the new Warcraft Chronicle series. The second book was just released in Match 2017, and they both go into an incredible amount of detail. The first one focuses on the creation of the universe and Azeroth, and the War of the Ancients and the second one begins with the creation of Dreanor, the arrival of the Draenei and the rise of the Horde. It stops at the end of the Second War, suggesting that the next one will pick up with the events of Thrall’s early life and the Lich King.

Doctor Who & Torchwood

I absolutely love the Doctor Who spin off novels as they really do capture the mood and characters of the show. I can clearly hear the actors voices in my head as I read their dialogue and the stories are imaginative, light hearted and fun. I like a lot of books that can be quite dark and series, and sometimes it is just nice to read something lighter. As the darker show, Torchwood novels are a little different and while I’ve only managed to read one so far, it was also a fab read.

Star Wars

Due to the canon restart there are in fact two lines of spin off novels for the Star Wars universe. The original Expanded Universe (EU) has been rebranded as ‘Legends‘ and even as a huge fan of it, I have to admit that some of the stories weren’t a high calibre. I hold a lot of the stories and character dear to my heart and always will, however, when you have such a large universe and so many different authors involved there’s going to be some bad apples. As a writer I understand why they rebooted the canon along with the new movies, and I was excited and terrified at the idea of new content. Like the original EU the new canon has its highs and lows. I’ve only read two new novels, and the first series is written by an author who’s writing is terrible. Maybe the second book is better, maybe not. I will eventually read it, but right now the comics have my full attention. Where the novels are lacking the comics have found in spades and I really recommend checking them out.

Have you checked out any of these spin off book series? Are there any you recommend or avoid?

My Goals for March

Monthly Goals: March 2017

It’s been a few months since I did one of these. January was just a crazy mess and February was all about the chest infection. Time to get back on track!

Blogging

  • I have blog ideas coming out of my ears right now. Seriously, so many ideas so hopefully this month will see an increase in content!
  • Commenting; yep, still an ongoing issue for me and I’m slowly getting there. People have actually had comments left by me recently *gasp*
  • Work on Blog Promo Links List.
  • Work on SEO.
  • Pinterest images for entries.
  • Media Kit? Might be able to squeeze this in this month.

Bullet Journal

I started a bullet journal this year to coincide with my 2017 Word of the Year Treasure (read more here).Β  February was supposed to be my first month of trackers and as you can imagine, the chest infection threw that out the window. That means March is the first time tracking things, so I need to keep up to date with it and stick to it.

Challenges

I’ve just launched The Screenshot Challenge and I’m also taking part in Magical March hosted by Kayla. I’ll be posting a selfie every day and screenshots every Sunday on my instagram.

Gaming

Since December I’ve not been playing WoW. With everything that happened in December I just haven’t felt like being social and WoW is my social game. So I went back to Guild Wars 2 and Chris joined me, so we’ve been playing through that together; first time for him. I’m playing it pretty leisurely so I don’t have any specific goals, I’m enjoying just floating by!

I do want to try and start the Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC’s this month though. I was focused on GW2 and have been busy, so hoping to fit it in somewhere.

Reading

I have been in a slump since the start of the year. I’ve gotten through some comics, and that is about it. I still haven’t finished a book I started in November, not because there is anything wrong with the book, I just have no motivation to read. It could be because I’ve been so stressed and ill, or I’ve just not had enough energy to spare. I hope to change it this month and get back on track!

Convention Preparation

Last year I won 6 tickets to the Sci Fi and Fantasy Warriors weekender, a weekend of geekyness and meeting guests! There’s some great guests there including Nicholas Brendon from Buffy, Chris Barrie from Red Dwarf and Gareth David Lloyd from Torchwood. There’s also a masquerade ball, something I have been wanting to go to for so long! It’s at the end of the month so I need to get a bunch of stuff prepared:

  • Discuss and plan schedule for the weekend.
  • Test hair and make up.
  • Look up DIY masques and make ours.
  • Create blog business cards and get them shipped.
  • Prepare/collect items for signings.
  • Packing list.
  • Food/Meal planning.

Dissertation

My dissertation had to go on the back burner a bit due to my recent illness, so this month I really need to crack on with it. I’ve had to re-evaluate the way I’m approaching my research question so it is something more plausible. I’m currently looking at a possible diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and one important aspect of living with the condition is learning to pace myself. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have made some good head way with this!

Have you got any goals for March? Let me know!
