5 Fictional Creatures I’d Like To Adopt [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Creatures I want to adopt - 5 Fandom Friday

As there aren’t any new 5 Fandom Friday prompts up for April just yet I decided to revisit a topic I’ve been wanting to cover for sooo long! I am notorious for watching movies and tv shows, and asking my fiancé ‘Can I have one?!’ whenever a cute or majestic  creature comes along. I do it with books too, of course, but unless Chris has read them I can’t really squee too much out loud. There are so many more that could be added to this list, however, my brain went blank. Doh! So here are the ones that left such a mark on me that even brain fog couldn’t erase them from my memory!

Guild Wars 2 - Aurene

Guild Wars 2

I’m going to be kinda vague on this one because I don’t want to spoil this for anyone else who plays/wants to play Guild Wars 2. Aurene is adorable, playful and so much fun and I don’t know how anyone wouldn’t want adopt this gorgeous baby dragon!

Percy Jackson - Blackjack

Percy Jackson series

It’s not a surprise that Pegasi feature in Rick Riordan’s greek mythology series, however, Blackjack is not what you’d expect for a Pegasus. He’s got an attitude and personality that is totally his own, and regularly uses slang rather than formal titles. He’s a fantastic friend to the gang, and who wouldn’t want a winged horse to ride?!

Disney, Pocahontas - Meeko

There are so many companions in Disney that I love, but it was Meeko that stole my heart. I had a Meeko plushie and he was my pride and joy for ages. If I had to pick just one Disney companion/side kick to adopt then Meeko would be it!

Star Wars - Varactyl

Star Wars

I remember the first moment I saw Obi-Wan’s Varactyl in Attack of the Clones. Then he started leaping off of cliffs with it! Every leap and bound made my heart soar. The Varactyl is such a majestic creature, and I was so happy when it got included in the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. While I can’t adopt it for real I can at least adopt it virtually!

World of Warcraft - Hippogryphs

World of Warcraft

I’d always admired the beautiful creatures, however, it wasn’t until Wrath of the Lich King that I fell totally in love with them. It started with the cute baby hippogryphs and grew even more when I spotted this mount, the Silver Covenant hippogryph. Since then I’ve collected every mount, every pet I can get my hands on.

How about you? Would you quite happily have a zoo of creatures from fandoms like me? Or are there just a few that fell in love with?  Let me know! <3  ((Video Game screenshots from my own collection, Varactyl image from Star Wars Wiki, Meeko from Disney Screencaps, Percy Jackson cover from Amazon.))

My 5 Favourite Droids [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Favourite Droids

My physio appointment yesterday went really well, and wanted to let you guys know before I dive into this week’s fandom 5. I’m not going to dedicate a whole entry to it because it was just a lot of talking and discussing things, so after a few appointments I’ll check back in… now onto the droids!

I tried. I honestly did try not to make this all about Star Wars. The problem is, pretty much all the droids I love are in that fandom. I had trouble thinking of any outside it, came up with two and they weren’t even close to being my favourite. So enjoy this Star Wars edition of 5 Fandom Friday! ((Images from Star Wars wiki and Polaroid frame by danielle-lee.))

My favourite droids: Star Wars - R2-D2R2-D2

Of course Artoo is top of the list! The spunky little droid has never had a memory wipe (as far as we know) and has developed quite the personality. He’s always running off to do his own thing, usually saving the day and has a mind of his own. He’s loyal, witty, caring and loves to wind Threepio up. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we could actually read/understand him, but the beeps and whistles add that element of mystery which makes his adventures that little bit more fun.

My favourite droids: Star Wars - BB-8

This droid had stolen everyone’s heart before the movie was even released, and I was skeptical… then I saw the movie and fell in love with him. BB-8 is quirky, loyal and I can’t wait to see how the character develops!

My favourite droids: Star Wars - Chopper

I’ve only watched a bit of Star Wars Rebels, and Chopper is amazing. Another spunky astromech, there’s a certain scene with him and Artoo and I was like… 😮 I think Chopper is a bit more sarcastic and moody than some of the other droids on this list, and it totally works.

My favourite droids: Star Wars - T7-10

I’ve not played SWTOR in so long that I actually forgot about T7 when I started making this list. Yes, I am ashamed. I absolutely adore this little droid and he’s one of my favourite companions in the game. He is just so lovable, and dorky! He regularly says things like “«Galaxy = needs T7 + Jedi // T7 = ready for next mission»” and it’s just so adorable.

My favourite droids: Star Wars - Whistler

Whistler is from the Expanded Universe, now known as Legends, and was the droid of Corran Horn a Corsec agent (Correlian Security), a member of rogue squadron and a Jedi Knight. As you can imagine he has some unique experiences and skills as a result. He’s essentially Corran’s partner in crime even though Corran had a human partner in Corsec. I remember fondly a particular incident in the Rogue Squadron series in which Whistler and Wedge’s astromech, Gate, broke out of Imperial hands and initiated their own escape route by buying passage to a friend. Whistler is as crafty as his Rogue and was always great fun to read about.

And yes.. they all ended up being astromech doids 😉 I love the cute little guys, they just have so much character than any other droid in the SWTOR universe. How about you? Do you only associate droids with one fandom like I do, or do you have them spread across fandoms?

5 Favorite Sequels [5 Fandom Friday]

5 Fandom Friday - Favourite Sequels

In preparation for this post I was running through movie sequels in my head, and then it occurred to me to wonder whether sequel refers to movies only. It doesn’t…..

A sequel is a narrative, documental, or other work of literature, film, theatre, television, music, or video game that continues the story of, or expands upon, some earlier work. ((Wikipedia))

Oh balls. I considered just sticking to movies, but then the video games and the books kept poking me. They wanted to be heard too. Crud. I chose to exclude TV because to me, TV is an ongoing sequel. Until the final season every episode, every season, is a sequel. That narrowed it down a little. After much deliberation, here are my favourite sequels! Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition

I absolutely loved the original Dragon Age and subsequent games in the series, however, it was the most recent that caught my attention. The storylines were great, the music beautiful and the art was just phenomenal. There was so much to do and see, and there’s DLCs as well to continue on the fun. I can totally see myself replaying this in the future to choose different paths. ((Image Credits – Dragon Age Wiki))

Lethal Weapon 4

Lethal Weapon 4

I’ve always enjoyed these movies and the final one was no exception. I absolutely love the dynamic between Lorna (Rene Russo) and Riggs, and so the film that introduced her (#3) is pretty high on my list too. However, there’s multiple different parts of this film that just hits the mark and makes it so awesome. You’ve got Jet Li as the bad guy, Uncle Benny, Chris Rock as a new young cop, the secret of Murtagh’s fortune is finally revealed and there’s two very interesting pregnancies. The boys are older, a bit slower and get in deep trouble (as usual) and it’s just such a great film with so many classic moments. ((Image Credits – IMP Awards Poster Gallery))

The Woman Who Rides Like a Man by Tamora Pierce

The Woman Who Rides Like a Man

I’ve lost count of the many times I’ve mentioned my love for Tamora Pierce’s books, so here’s a little insight into what makes them so special. This is book 4 of her first series set in the lands of Tortall. By this point Alanna has become a knight and has left court after a showdown with the big bad. She sets out of her own, leaving her lover behind and this book is about her finding who she is. She’s not sure if she’s meant to be someone’s wife, she’s largely ignored her magic, and she’s pretty sure that the darkest part of her life is over. Nope, not even quite and she finds that she’s still very much in the hands of the Goddess. ((Image Credits – Tamora Pierce Wiki))

Wrath of the Lich King

Wrath of the Lich King

There have now been six World of Warcraft expansions, and it is the second expansion Wrath of the Lich King which wins my favourite sequel. When trying to work out why this one always wins, I had one immediate answer: DRAGONS! I absolutely love the Dragons, the characters and the lore regarding the Dragonflights and this was the big ‘here be dragons!’ expansion. There was a lot of other lore and history flying about, and this expansion had some of my favourite raids too. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and one that holds fond memories. Legion may take over Wrath’s spot, however, I feel that it’s still too ‘new’ to be chosen just yet. ((Image Credits – WoW Wiki))

Return of the Jedi

Return of the Jedi

Did you think there wouldn’t be anything Star Wars on this list? Really? 😉 This is my favourite Star Wars film of all, and one of my favourite films ever. I have probably watched this film more than anything else in my life. I could quite happily sit and watch it all day, and have done so before 😛 There’s just so many different elements that make this the one for me. I love the start of the film and the whole rescue in Jabba’s Palace. I get shivers just thinking about the way Artoo shoots Luke his lightsaber, and Luke catches it, jumping into action. Luke is finally a Jedi Knight and the change between the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is immediately noticeable. This isn’t some farm boy any more, this is a guy who knows who he is, what he is and what he needs to do. There’s so much more, I could go on and on. I’ll just say one last thing; Ewoks. Enough said.

How about you; are any of these your favourite sequels? What are your favourites?

Favourite Geeky Coffee Mugs

5 Fandom Friday - geeky coffee mugs

This weeks prompt is a special one to celebrate the birthday of one of the 5 Fandom Friday creators, Megan at The Nerdy Girlie. Happy birthday Megan! Unfortunately, I had to tweak the prompt a bit as I don’t visit coffee shops much. I wanted to keep with the coffee theme to honour Megan so I’m sharing my favourite geeky coffee mugs!

Trolls dress up mug

Troll Dress Up Mug

I spotted this in a store last year and geeked out about it; Chris was not impressed. I loved trolls when I was a kid and the idea of being able to play dress up on my mug? Awesome. ((Image Credits – Amazon.co.uk))

R2-D2 Mug

There are loads of Star Wars themed mugs around, including some cute Funko Pop ones, so I had a hunt and my personal choice is this R2-D2 mug. I love that it is the shape of the droid and that his domed top covers the mug. I’m really accident prone so having a top on my mug is probably a good safety feature 😉 ((Image Credit – Pricerighthome))

Marauders map mug

Marauder’s Map Mug

Colour changing mugs are becoming a thing, and Morphing Mugs has a whole range of them. It’s this Marauder’s Map mug though that remains my favourite because of how the map itself works. The map appears blank until it’s activated and the mug mimics that feature with the temperature change. ((Image Credits – Amazon.co.uk))

naughty nessies mug

Naughty Nessies Mug

I have been in love with the Naughty Nessies range since I found it, and this is my daily go to mug. I love how quirky and cute it is, and reading the ‘Nessies’ always makes me smile. ((Image Credits – Amazon.co.uk))

Little Miss Blogger mug

 Little Miss Blogger

Truffle Shuffle have so many awesome geeky, retro and 80s mugs that it was becoming seriously impossible to pick just one – and then I spotted this Little Miss Blogger mug! Of course it had to go in this list! ((Image Credits – Truffle Shuffle.co.uk))

Do you have any geeky mugs to share? Let me know in the comments!

5 Geeky Expressions Only Your Friends Would Understand

5 Fandom Friday - Geeky Expressions

When compiling this list I noticed a pattern; most of my geeky expressions come from gaming. There’s a few others that didn’t make the list, like referring to a crack in a wall for Whovians, but most are those that have come up in my years playing World of Warcraft.

I think this is probably one of the most geeky expressions out there; even my dad uses this one. The best thing is that it can be used and applied to so many situations. Whether you’re seriously struggling with a problem, or having a laugh with your friends. It’s universal and everyone knows what it means.  ((Image Credit – Star Wars Uncut))

This is probably the most obscure one of the list, and is more something I say regularly and usually when gaming. In most games fire = bad. I’ll be raiding and Chris will ask why I died and this will be my typical response. ((Image Credit – Screencapped.net))

From World of Warcraft, this is a line uttered by Kael’thas after his demise in Tempest Keep. It’s become an ongoing long running joke in WoW, if a character dies or magically reincarnates you can bet someone will utter this line. ((Image Credit – EU Battlenet))

Although this one began in World of Warcraft, it’s another one that has become universal. There’s even a wikipedia page for it which includes a list of times it has appeared in TV shows and other places. It became a viral meme very quickly, and if you’ve not yet seen the original video then go check it out (don’t read the wiki page summary, you need to experience this for yourself first!). It’s become an every day slang for my guild and friends, with one us either quoting Leroy’s cry or saying “I’m just gonna leroy it”. I’ve had even non-gamers say this in conversation before, so it’s moved well beyond WoW. ((Image Credit – Hearthstone Wiki))

And the classic Illidain; You are NOT Prepared! His infamous line uttered before engaging in combat with a raid in Black Temple in World of Warcraft. This has become another viral saying/meme for the WoW community, especially when the latest expansion Legion was on the way. I’ve lost count of the many instances and times when this line has been coined. Just remember… you are not prepared!  ((Image Credit – World of Warcraft))

How about you guys; do you find that particular community or fandom has more expressions than another? Do you have a set of geeky expressions within a close group of friends or a whole fandom?
