Welcome to the first in a brand new series here at Just Geeking by; the Zodiac Series! This series will be two-fold; it will be bringing together information about each zodiac sign’s unique style, including tips for achieving that style, and it will be collecting zodiac products. First up is the Taurus, the bull and in this post I will be helping you find your unique Taurus style with help from some fantastic astrology sources. Then I’ll be highlighting some of the exquisite, quirky and downright adorable items out there dedicated to Taurus women. These are just some of my top picks and the rest can be found on the dedicated pinterest board below! ((Banner credits: Zodiac brushes by Sabriena and background image from Public Domain Images.))
Symbol: The Bull Element: Earth Ruling Planet: Venus — the planet of beauty and love Physical Attributes: Deep and soulful eyes, long and elegant necks, delicate jaw lines ((Symbol, element, ruling planet and physical attributes information credited to Astro Style.)) Traits: Hard-working, Resourceful, Reliable Colors: Pink, Pastel Blue, Light Green Fashionable Taurus: Jessica Alba, Christina Hendricks, Dianna Agron ((Traits, colours and fashionable Taurus information credited to College Fashion.))
College fashion explains that Taurus women love a classic vibe to their wardrobe with well-made clothing with unique detailing, which means they do ted to go for the more upmarket and expensive clothes. That doesn’t mean they can’t be patient though and wait for just the right bargain to save a few pounds! As their symbol the bull rules over the throat and neck pay attention to your neck area by drawing attention to it with scarves and necklaces.
This is seconded by Who What Wear who state that for a Taurus “style is synonymous with quality”, but don’t worry about holding out for that designer item. It doesn’t make you a label snob just because you know how to appreciate the finer things in life. They recommend Blues, earth tones, and neutrals as your complimentary colours.
For make up Star Sign Style says to take inspiration from Taurus’ ruling planet Venus and go for a feminine look. Pinks and florals in particular are flattering for a Taurus, and use muted pinks to accentuate your lips. Miss Malini offers more examples, suggesting earth-tones for your eyes such as taupes, emeralds and shimmery browns and embody your love for all things classic with a simple but classy french manicure.
Dripping with gold and teal, artistic strokes bring a modern feel to this Taurus iphone case by KatsCustomStudio, £8.24.

May the 4th be with you! Happy Star Wars day to all my fellow Star Wars geeks! It seemed fitting that the first in the new Geek of the High Street series was dedicated to this day. Sadly though, I don’t have much to bring you. There is a distinct lack of anything Star Wars in most British high street stores directed at women. At best we get a few smatterings as seen in this post and the pinterest board, or unisex items. While menswear and kidswear (again primarily boys) are filled to the brim! Even my go to Sports Direct let me down this time. Maybe I’ve just timed it badly and it’s in between stock changes (I hope!) and not a sign of things to come.
I’m going to highlight a few of my favourite things, and then there is the pinterest board for you to browse at your leisure. The Star Wars board featured below is just one section of the bigger Geek of the High Street board so don’t forget to check out the whole board and follow it for your geeky fix!
First up is this gorgeous denim jacket from Gap. The Star Wars™ Icon denim jacket is originally priced at £69.95 but is currently down to £44.99 and is perfect for the coming summer months!
Another item that caught my eye in Gap’s fab Star Wars Icon series is these quirky jogging bottoms that allow you to show your rebel pride while you work out or relax at home. There’s a matching top and even better? It’s also on sale, down from £44.95 to £21.99!
This Stormstrooper t-shirt has been given a bohemian make-over and would look great under your new denim jacket 😉 Find it in the sale at Sports Direct for £7.50.
This may look like just an ordinary boot, however, it’s actually part of an awesome collaboration between Clarks and Star Wars. The Rey, women’s Nature Collection comes in three colours; Grey, Black and Sand (featured here). Each comes in a different colours that reflect the character and her outfits, and feature an exclusive Rey heel detail. They’re priced quite high at £95.00, but Clarks has a good reputation so these are worth the investment.
I am a sucker for cute Droid Star Wars phone cases (I’m currently rocking an R2-D2 one myself!) and this BB-8 iPhone 7 case from TK Maxx is super cute and a bargain at £7.99!
Just under a year ago I debuted the first of what was to be a 12 month series; The Birthstone series. It was a monthly blog series in which I created a pinterest board and used it as a mood board for a style guide for that month’s birthstone. I loved the idea, I loved doing it, and I’m still somewhat annoyed that I didn’t get to post a style guide for each individual month. I did, however, keep up with the pinterest boards and intend to keep doing so on a much lesser scale though. I had originally intended to post this months style guide for Amethyst, and then later in the year catch up on the months I had missed. The problem with that is that I would constantly be playing catch up and adding more work, rather than admitting that there are some lessons I learned from this series. Instead I decide to post this wrap up, concluding the series and providing links to all the published style guides and each individual pinterest board in one place. I also wanted to use it as a way to reflect on what lessons I learned and how to adjust my planning for future blog series (oh yes, there are more to come! 😉 ).
The biggest lesson was that I over-reached, and wanted to do more than I really should have. The style guides needed to be more compact, and involving less work on my part. If I want to spend hours and hours pinning things to a pinterest board, then so be it. That’s my choice and I enjoy it; it’s also great for when I’m feeling really crappy and want to be productive. Likewise, thanks to my tablet I can do it on the go and anywhere in the house. The problem was trying to then convert that into a blog post; I had to wade through loads of links and save loads of images, resize them and so forth. It took so long. The next series is going to be more definitive, more to the point and less work in that department.
I also wasn’t as sharp with affiliate links as I should have been and probably lost out on a lot of great opportunities. I’ll be working on that in the future.
The Complete Birthstone Series
And finally, here it is! The complete set of published pinterest boards and the published accompanying style guides. I will continue to add things I find to these boards so take the time to follow them, whether it’s your birthstone or you simply love the colour palette for that month!
Did you enjoy this series? Which was your favourite? Did you prefer the style guides or the pinterest boards themselves? Did it help you style your birthstone or another stone? Would you like to see other gemstone based style guides? Let me know your thoughts in the comments <3
Happy Saturday everyone! This week the Argus patch went live on the World of Warcraft servers and so this week Sharing Saturday is dedicated to the Draenei that once called Argus home. I’ve collected a selection of Draenei products from around the internet so you can share your Draenei pride or show your support as they take the fight to the Legion!
World of Warcraft Ladies’ Draenei Robe, $129.99, from Think Geek.
Phadalus the Enlightened art print, £19.99, by Glenn Rane.
I noticed in my hunt that poor Draenei are one of the most under presented races when it comes to World of Warcraft products. Do you have any Draenei products to share? Would you like to see other race and/or class specific products? Let me know in the comments!
The Birthstone series will be exploring the world of birth stones and creating a pinterest mood board filled with style ideas related to that month’s birthstone and related colours. There will be women’s fashion, jewellery, make up, accessories, colour palettes and some home decor items thrown in too. This series will be posted on the third Saturday of every month.
So… it’s August and this is the birthstone for July… yep I’m running a bit behind. I hope to have Peridot up next weekend so I should be back on track for one birthstone a month again!
Ruby is one of two red birthstones I’ll be looking at in this series, so I had to differentiate between it and Garnet. For styling ruby I went with warmer tones; poppy red, warm oranges and yellows. There’s some darker tones of red as well to represent the darker hues of rubies, however, generally anything burgundy I’ll be saving for garnet in January 😉
Like many birthstones Ruby can get a tad pricey, but thankfully when it comes to dupes there are loads of different options. From created rubies, red crystals and red beads, you can style ruby without a huge price tag!
Black Up – ‘Matte Liquid Lipcolor’ lipstain in N 05 from Debenhams.
What do you think; is ruby a birthstone you think you could style? I’ve always been partial to red and never been afraid to wear it, but I know for some people it can be a bit overwhelming. Do you think you would go all out in one of the ruby dresses or would you be more subtle and add a touch of red with some accessories?
I hope you’ve found something you like in this post, and if not there’s plenty more on the pinterest board! I’ll be adding a few more things to the board from time to time so don’t forget to follow it. If you have something you think I should add, especially if it’s something you’ve created let me know!
